
Arrest made in fatal hit and run after suspect vehicle found torched in Ontario town
A 33-year-old man was arrested on McNabb Street, according to a release from police. He is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death, failing to remain at a collision resulting in death and arson in connection with the incident.

On June 16, at around 5:20 p.m., police said emergency services were dispatched to the entrance to Hanover Park after receiving reports of a hit and run involving a pedestrian.
Police said the victim, Hanover resident Sheila Lamont, was crossing the street when she was hit by a vehicle, which fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
Lamont was transported to an area hospital by paramedics, where she later died due to her injuries.

A couple of days later, Hanover police Chief Christopher Knoll posted a picture of a burnt-up 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser on X, saying that further details were to follow.
Police believe the fire occurred within a couple of hours of the crash. The vehicle was examined by OPP forensic officers.
Hanover is a town of around 8,000 people in Grey County, about 100 kilometres north of Kitchener.

Quebec's bar association has suspended the lawyer's licence of Leonardo Rizzuto, who was one of 11 people arrested last month in a police operation targeting organized crime. The joint police operation last month by Montreal and Quebec provincial police led to the arrest of 11 men between 27 and 57 years old, who police allege are associated with the Mafia, the Hells Angels and street gangs. The suspension said Rizzuto, who obtained his licence in 1999, had practised law in Montreal and Laval.

Toddler dead after drowning in St. Lawrence River near Kingston

Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to Wolfe Island at around 9:30 a.m. after an unresponsive toddler was found in the river. They say family members and first responders began life-saving measures and the toddler was brought to a trauma centre. OPP say the child was later pronounced dead in hospital. Police say they are not releasing any additional information out of respect for the family's privacy. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the OPP. Toddler drowns in St. Lawrence River on Wolfe Island

(Supplied) A one-year-old girl drowned after being found unresponsive in the St. Lawrence River Friday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police. Police say officers responded to Stoney Point Lane on Wolfe Island, south of Kingston at approximately 9:30 a.m. Family members and fire responders immediately initiated life-saving measures, OPP said in a news release. The toddler was transported to a regional trauma centre where she was later pronounced dead. 'The toddler's identity will not be released to safeguard the privacy of the grieving family,' police say. OPP Const. Joey Mason tells CTV News Ottawa the toddler was a young girl just months short of two-years-old. No foul play is suspected, he said.
