Heat advisory in effect for North Texas due to dangerous temperatures
High temperatures will reach into the mid-90s, which is typical for this time of the year. However, a dense plume of tropical moisture is lingering across the area.
The heat, combined with the high moisture content, is causing the heat index values to reach up to 107 degrees on Saturday afternoon.
The heat and the moisture will not only spike the heat index values, but they will also promote the opportunity for storms Saturday afternoon. Heat-driven storms will be likely across North Texas, and the highest chance of rain will be along and to the east of I-35.
Not everyone will see rain, but those who do may get brief heavy downpours and frequent lightning, but no severe weather is expected. Storms will fizzle out by sunset.
A ridge of high pressure will move into the Plains over the next several days, resulting in an increase of the actual temperature outside and a decrease in the humidity levels.
Some of the hottest high temperatures of the year will be in the forecast next week. It has been 337 days since DFW has seen a triple-digit day; that streak will likely be broken soon.
Some ways to beat the heat are to take frequent breaks in the A/C, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, as well as drink plenty of water. Stay safe.

Strong storms possible as cooler pattern continues across North Texas
The high at DFW reached 96 degrees Friday — not exactly a "cool" day, but it did break a three-day streak of triple-digit temperatures. A weak front has pushed into North Texas and stalled, helping to trigger afternoon storms that continued to build into the evening. These storms are expected to taper off late tonight. Both Saturday and Sunday are forecast to bring slightly cooler temperatures — a relatively mild start to what is typically the hottest month of the year. A few pop-up storms could develop Saturday across southern parts of North Texas, but most of the region is expected to stay dry during the day. Overnight, a complex of storms is forecast to move in from the north, bringing another round of strong storms. Another wave of storms is expected to arrive late Sunday night and linger into Monday morning. Dry conditions are expected to return by Monday afternoon as sunshine breaks through. For the rest of the week, typical August weather will settle in across North Texas — hot and dry. High temperatures are forecast to climb back near 100 degrees by the end of the week.

South Florida is in for a very hot and humid first weekend of August. Highs will remain slightly above average in the low 90s, and it will feel like 105 to 110 degrees when the humidity is factored in. The National Weather Service may issue heat advisories this weekend if the heat indices meet the criteria of 105 degrees or higher for at least two hours. The chance of rain is 20% with the potential for a few showers and some storms, but the bulk of the wet weather will be across the interior and West Coast. Over the weekend, a frontal boundary over the southeastern U.S. will settle over northern Florida before stalling through early next week. This will result in increased mid and upper-level moisture across South Florida. The chance of rain will increase in the early to middle part of the week due to this moisture and several weak upper-level disturbances moving through.

It's a scorching hot start to August in Brevard County. The Space Coast will experience triple-digit heat index temperatures the week of Aug. 3 triggering 'major' heat risk throughout most of the county. The 'major' heat risk is issued once heat index temperatures – a combination of humidity and the high temperature – reaches 108. If your part of the county isn't quite at that point, you're not far off. Most of the county will be hovering between a heat index of 105 and 108 through Aug. 6.
