Dangerous heat lingers around North Texas as work week begins
Monday is going to be a dangerously hot day. A heat advisory is in effect starting at 12 p.m. today and continuing through 7 p.m. tomorrow due to a heat index value reaching up to 107 degrees. Today will be sunny with winds from the south around 5 to 10 mph and a high in the upper 90s. The heat combined with the moisture in the atmosphere will cause the "feels-like" temperatures to be in the triple digits. When your body gets hot, you sweat, which evaporates and cools you off. However, when there is a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, it inhibits the evaporation process, so your body can't cool as quickly. That's what makes days like today dangerous. So far, the majority of July has been below average temperature-wise. In fact, it has been 339 days since Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport recorded a 100-degree or higher day. This streak has been long – there have only been four times in the last 30 years that North Texas has waited this long to see a triple-digit day. This trend ends soon – highs are forecasted to reach the triple digits Tuesday through Thursday. A break from the intense heat will be expected by next weekend due to a cold front. The front will move through the area Friday, dropping temperatures a few degrees and bringing rain chances for the weekend.

Hot seasonable week on tap for North Texas with temperatures expected in the 100s
Another hot yet seasonable July day is on tap. Expect partly cloudy skies with the high temperature reaching the mid-90s and winds from the south gusting up to 20 mph. There is still a moderate amount of moisture in the atmosphere, causing the feel-like temperatures to climb into the triple-digits. However, the dew points will be lower than Saturday, so heat index values won't reach the heat advisory criteria. Daytime heating will allow for a few pop-up showers during the late afternoon and evening. The potential for a 10 to 20% chance of rain will encompass cities to the south of I-20 and east of I-35. Most of North Texas will be dry. Monday, the heat dome begins to build across the Central United States. A ridge of high pressure will gradually dominate the weather pattern this next week. Compressional heating from the sinking, dry air will clear the skies and increase temperatures. It has been 338 days since DFW Airport recorded a triple-digit day. The streak looks to end this week. By next weekend, the ridge weakens, bringing temperatures down a few degrees and increasing the rain chances.

Heat advisory in effect for North Texas due to dangerous temperatures
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday due to dangerous heat. High temperatures will reach into the mid-90s, which is typical for this time of the year. However, a dense plume of tropical moisture is lingering across the area. The heat, combined with the high moisture content, is causing the heat index values to reach up to 107 degrees on Saturday afternoon. The heat and the moisture will not only spike the heat index values, but they will also promote the opportunity for storms Saturday afternoon. Heat-driven storms will be likely across North Texas, and the highest chance of rain will be along and to the east of I-35. Not everyone will see rain, but those who do may get brief heavy downpours and frequent lightning, but no severe weather is expected. Storms will fizzle out by sunset. A ridge of high pressure will move into the Plains over the next several days, resulting in an increase of the actual temperature outside and a decrease in the humidity levels. Some of the hottest high temperatures of the year will be in the forecast next week. It has been 337 days since DFW has seen a triple-digit day; that streak will likely be broken soon. Some ways to beat the heat are to take frequent breaks in the A/C, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, as well as drink plenty of water. Stay safe.

Heat advisory again Saturday, feels-like temps as high as 108°, isolated storm chances Saturday
Friday marked our hottest day of the year so far, with a high temperature of 99° at DFW Airport. Parts of North Texas reached triple-digit temperatures, though, including Fort Worth. Feels-like temperatures were even hotter, ranging from 100 ° to 107° across North Texas. We will see the return of our heat advisory again Saturday afternoon, even as air temperatures drop back into the middle 90s. It will be a very humid weekend in North Texas, so even with the drop in temperatures, our heat indices will still be as high as 108°, which puts us back into heat advisory criteria. Dew points will rise by as much as 10° this weekend, thanks to a plume of tropical moisture coming in from the Gulf. This moisture will bring additional cloud coverage, as well as isolated storm chances Saturday afternoon. Better chances will be along and east of I-35. That rise in dew points will give us a very muggy feel all weekend, keeping those feels-like temps well into the triple digits. As we head into next week, sunshine is back in full force; fortunately, dew points start to drop, but temperatures remain in the upper 90s to near-100 as a ridge of high pressure settles in over the Southern Plains. Stay hydrated, and limit outdoor time for you, your kids, and your pets. Stay cool!

Heat advisory continues in North Texas as "feels-like" temperatures could reach 107 degrees on Friday
Another heat advisory and First Alert Weather Day are in effect on Friday due to dangerous heat lingering around North Texas. Small storm chances are on the way over the weekend. The heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service is in effect until 9 p.m. for most of North Texas. Just like Thursday, the culprit isn't the actual temperature but the heat index. Some areas will again reach or surpass a "feels-like" temperature of 105 degrees. Drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade or in the AC and don't leave anyone in the car. DFW avoided a 100-degree day yesterday by all of two degrees. The drier air Friday afternoon might be the difference in hitting 100 degrees for the first time this summer. Higher humidity on Saturday, along with clouds, will keep highs in the mid-90s. By Saturday, there is the first chance of rain since mid-July. Coverage won't be great, but afternoon storms will queue up across North Texas. Severe weather isn't expected, but it'll be slow-moving, so heavy rain is possible in isolated areas. Rain chances taper back on Sunday afternoon before North Texas gets right back to hot and dry weather next week.
