Nets' Michael Porter Jr. discusses coming to Brooklyn as a veteran
"Definitely excited to see these young guys. I know we got some young talent out there, so excited to see what they can do. I'm excited to be here," Porter said to the media prior to Sunday's summer league game against the Washington Wizards. Porter said in a video on his YouTube channel, Curious Mike, that he found out about his being traded while on a flight to St. Tropez.
"Honestly, probably pretty quick," Porter said when asked how long it took for him to change his mind to being part of the Nets. "I kind of flipped the script in my head pretty quick. Honestly, I'm not like a super anxious guy or anything like that. When I found out, I was kind of just like, 'well, I'm traded,' and took a nap afterwards. I'm excited to be here, though. I love Denver, I love my time there, but I'm excited for this new chapter."
Porter, 27, comes to Brooklyn as one of the oldest players on the team, meaning that he will have to be a presence for the roster on and off the floor. Porter has spent the majority of his seven-year career playing with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, but now, he will have to bring his championship experience and scoring ability to a rebuilding Brooklyn team that is looking for multiple players to step up.
"I think it's more of what I'm used to, I think," Porter said when asked about his leadership being tested with the Nets. "Coming into the league and being the guy your whole life and then, coming in and there's players that are better than you, been there longer than you, all those things, that's an adjustment. Whether it's some young guys around and you get to bring the energy and have a leadership role, I think that was how it was on all the teams that I played on."

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 21 - Antoine Wright (2005-08)
The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 22nd of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 21, which has has had a total of 26 players wear the number in the history of the team. The 15th of those players wearing No. 21 played in the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets era, wing alum Antoine Wright. After ending his college career at Texas A&M, Wright was picked up with the 15th overall selection of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Nets. The West Covina, California native would play parts of the first three seasons of his pro career with New Jersey before he was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks in 2008. Saturday's game was worrisome for the New York Liberty and their fans after seven-time All-Star Breanna Stewart exited with what appeared to a lower leg injury in the first quarter of the team's 101-99 loss to the LA Sparks. It wasn't clear in the moment what caused to the two-time MVP to be in pain but whatever it was it was enough for Stewart to motion towards the bench to get her out of the game and she never returned. The Liberty just got Jonquel Jones back so having Stewie out of the lineup would be a massive loss for the reigning WNBA champs. Stewart has barely missed any time since coming to Brooklyn. But she did tear her Achilles back in 2019 before having to undergo a touch-up operation a few seasons later. The New York Post's Madeline Kenney had a positive update on Sunday though, with the result of Stewart's recent X-rays: "Breanna Stewart had imaging done on her right leg which showed she avoided significant injury after exiting last night's game," Kenney reported. "She'll be with the Liberty on this four-game road trip, but the team plans to give her time to fully recover." Hopefully Breanna is able to make a full and quick recovery and doesn't miss too much time with a grueling 12-game stretch coming up.
