Alejandro Garnacho sent Roy Keane warning after Man Utd star's 'stupid' decision

Daily Mirrora day ago
Alejandro Garnacho caused controversy after posing in an Aston Villa and former Manchester United star Louis Saha has claimed Roy Keane would have crunched him in training in response
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane would have taken Alejandro Garnacho out on the training pitch for his latest show of petulance. Garnacho, who has fallen out of favour at United, posted on social media a picture of him wearing an Aston Villa top with Marcus Rashford's name and number on the back.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa after falling out with boss Ruben Amorim, and Garnacho's provocative stunt was seen as him taunting the United boss after he, too, suffered the same fate as the England forward.

Garnacho was dropped for United's 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao, prompting the winger – who turned 21 yesterday – to publicly criticise Amorim over the decision and reveal he was considering his future.

That in turn convinced Amorim that Garnacho has no place in his future plans, with the club actively looking to sell the £50million-rated Argentina international this summer.
Former United striker Louis Saha said ex-skipper Keane would have dealt with Garnacho in the most brutal way possible – by subjecting him to a series of fierce tackles on the training pitch to show him he was out of line.
'Back in my day, I think Roy would have welcomed Garnacho back to the training ground with a few crunching tackles to help him understand what he thought of him,' said Saha. 'I can't say for sure, but I really doubt Keane will agree with what Garnacho did.
'It's the type of things we see from new generations. To be honest, I can't only blame Garnacho. The way the squad has been built, it's why Garnacho thinks he has the right to do something like this.
'It's why he thinks he can make stupid comments and say things on social media. He thinks he's going to get something out of it and, right now, United are the club who are giving him the platform to act this way.
'He already thinks he's a top player, already makes demands, acts without respect. It's a shame, but there are other factors than just the player. The club and the squad, they've already lost the leaders. The bad influences have already taken over. They think they're bigger and better than they are.

'Keane, Rio Ferdinand, David Beckham, Gary Neville, they would all make sure you understand what wasn't allowed. They wouldn't give players the luxury to act like this. He's been let down because he's been given too much responsibility for a player who hasn't earned it yet.
'It's fine if you're playing like Wayne Rooney. If you score 20 or 30 goals a season, do what you want, demand what you want. Garnacho has five goals and he's carrying on like this. It's crazy.'

Asked if a potential swap deal involving Garnacho and Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku would be a good move, Saha said: 'Everyone can benefit from the move. It's a win-win. United want players who are dedicated, work hard, are eager to play and who have talent.
'We want players who want to play well, and there's extra motivation in the year of a World Cup. I think Nkunku knows if he plays well, he can get back in the French squad for the summer. At the same time, he's not the kind of player who disrupts the dressing room.
'As for Garnacho, if he wants to go, get rid of him. I used to be a huge fan, but that's over. Anyone like this, if they want to go, go. Even if you lose money, it doesn't matter, because you can bring in a player who can behave as they should.'
Louis Saha was speaking to Coin Poker. The full interview can be found here.

Jadon Sancho 'in talks' with European giant as Garnacho sent Man Utd warning

Ruben Amorim's players are enjoying their final few days before reporting for pre-season on Monday but Manchester United's head coach is still looking to shift several unwanted stars Manchester United's players are entering their last weekend before pre-season training kicks off on Monday with a reminder from Ruben Amorim that they will be expected to post personal bests across a series of physical challenges. But Amorim is still waiting for an update around potential arrivals and departures with interest in Viktor Gyokeres cooling, an eagerness to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford maintained and a host of speculation around expected departures. ‌ That includes wingers Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho, both of whom could head abroad with Serie A on the cards for the former in a bargain deal. Argentina's Garnacho, however, will cost around £50m. ‌ Here are the transfer tales to keep tabs on from in and around Old Trafford. Sancho talks Jadon Sancho has held talks with Juventus in a bid to end his miserable time at Old Trafford. England winner Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea but the Blues decided against paying £5m to make his move permanent. He moved to United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73m but has scored just nine goals. And with no future under Ruben Amorim at United, he is seeking a move abroad and the Serie A giants have made their firm interest clear, according to various reports. The Belgian striker signed for the Red Devils in 2017 in a £75m deal. His switch came after a prolific spell with Everton having scored 87 goals in 166 appearances for the Toffees. And things started well for Lukaku at Old Trafford having scored 27 goals across his debut campaign. But things soon went awry having fallen out of favour during his second season, while he found the net just 15 times. Lukaku was eventually sold to Italian giants Inter Milan. The forward has now admitted that he was never clamouring for a move to United. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Iconic Manchester United Premier League winner joins Arsenal coaching staff

Arsenal have brought former Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze onto Mikel Arteta's coaching staff. The Gunners have moved to replace Carlos Cuesta, who left their coaching team to take over as manager of Italian side Parma. The Athletic report that Heinze is being brought in, with the 47-year-old having had an unspectacular time as a manager since retiring from playing in 2014. The former full-back has had stints in charge of Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Juniors, Velez Sarsfield and most recently Newell's Old Boys in his home country of Argentina. He also had a brief spell as manager of Atlanta United in MLS. His most recent spell in a top job was with Newell's, which ended in November 2023. The move to Arsenal seems surprising but is not entirely out of the blue as Heinze and Arteta go a long way back. The pair played together at Paris Saint-Germain in 2001-02, with the Spaniard speaking highly of the Argentine's influence in the past. The appointment will probably not be too popular at Old Trafford, where Heinze was an iconic figure, despite a pretty short time with Manchester United. The left-back signed from PSG in 2004 and spent three seasons with the Red Devils, making 83 appearances in all competitions. A serious injury wiped out almost the whole of the 2005-06 season before Heinze won the Premier League with Manchester United in what turned out to be his final year at the club in 2006-07. The tough-tackling defender then left for Real Madrid, but was a memorable force at Old Trafford, despite only making 52 Premier League appearances. Cuesta's departure has been seen as a blow for Arsenal, with the 29-year-old a highly-rated young coach. On his departure from the Emirates, he posted an emotional message, writing: 'After five beautiful years it's hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and value. More Trending 'The only thing I've ever tried to do was give everything I had inside of me every single day. 'I was inspired by the culture that was created, by the hunger of every person of the organisation and by the unity that we had in any situation that we had to face. 'It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work with the players, staff, directors and all the employees of the club and at the same time, to receive an extra push from our amazing fans in every match. 'Because of the quality of its people, I'm convinced that the best moments for this football club are still yet to come. Enjoy the journey, because it is a very exciting one. Thank you Arsenal.' ‘This sums up Man Utd' – Newcastle make huge £55m transfer bid for ex-Red Devils star sold for just £15m

NEWCASTLE have launched a £55million transfer offer to sign Anthony Elanga, according to reports. The Athletic report Toon want to add the Nottingham Forest winger to their squad as they gear up for a campaign in the Champions League. 3 3 The bid is the Magpies' second bid for Elanga. An offer of £45m was previously rejected by the City Ground outfit. The 23-year-old played in all 38 of his team's Premier League season as they qualified for the Europa Conference League with a seventh-place finish. Elanga scored six goals and provided 11 assists in the league last season. The versatile Swede joined Forest in a £15m transfer from Manchester United in 2023. Since making the switch, he has scored 11 goals and added 21 assists in 82 games. Elanga made his senior Premier League debut for the Red Devils in 2021. However, fans on social media remarked the potential switch to the St James' Park club sums up the plight of his old club in the transfer market in recent years. One fan said: "If a potential deal has ever summed up United's ability to negotiate in the past 12 years it's this one. "Sold him for £15m 2 years ago from our own academy. And teams are now bidding £55m to try get him." Buzz Off! Brentford Demand £65M from Man Utd for Bryan Mbeumo | Transfers Exposed A second added: "He was the only youngster truly close to Ronaldo during his second spell — always learning, always grinding. "I've always believed Anthony Elanga was destined for stardom. If United hadn't sold him to buy Antony, they wouldn't be chasing Mbeumo now." Another said: "Man Utd just keep losing everywhere." Fortunately for the cash-strapped Old Trafford bosses, Man Utd are set to profit from the deal if it goes through. According to the Manchester Evening News, the club inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause for any profit made on the winger. That means, with Forest due to pocket around £35m in profit, Man Utd are expected to make around £7m from the deal. Man Utd themselves are looking to finalise a deal for Brentford 's Bryan Mbeumo, having seen a £62.5m bid rejected with the Bees wanting £65m. They have already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha for £62.5m from Wolves. 3
