BREAKING NEWS Horrific twist after baby is found dead in a park lake in Queensland

Daily Mail2 days ago
A police investigation into the tragic drowning of a seven-month-old baby boy at a popular camping spot has been rocked by allegations that he was thrown into the water.
Emergency responders raced to the scene at Chatsworth Park near Gympie, Queensland at about 10.30am on Saturday following multiple triple-0 calls about a baby found unresponsive in a nearby lake.
The boy's mother made the grim discovery and pulled him out of the water, which was just 40 metres from the campsite.
She and fellow holidaymakers performed CPR on the baby, who was rushed to Gympie Hospital, where he later died.
The baby and his parents had camped overnight at the park on their way home in North Queensland.
Police investigating the circumstances of the baby's 'unexplained' death have urged anyone who was at the lake an hour before and after the tragedy to come forward.
The public appeal sparked several posts on the Queensland Police Facebook page claiming alleged witnesses saw the baby thrown into the water by a man.
Police responded to the posts by urging the posters to contact Policelink.
No arrests or charges have been laid.
A section of the campsite remained cordoned off as a crime scene on Monday.
Officers from the Child Trauma Unit and the Homicide Investigation Team are assisting with the investigation.
A post-mortem was carried out on Monday morning.
'We're treating it as unexplained, that's probably the best term I can use at this point in time,' Wide Bay Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield told reporters.
'We're trying to work out the mechanisms of how that occurred.
'We have part of the picture, we just want to complete that full picture before we decide on where that investigation leads us.'
Chatsworth Park is a popular free camping and stopover spot off the Bruce Highway.
It's also a common spot for the homeless, police confirmed.
'We have information that other vehicles were parked up in the rest stop area,' Insp Mansfield said.
'They either left just prior or during - we just don't know until we speak to them.
'There were a couple of vehicles that left the scene who may or may not have seen or heard anything, but we just need to track them down in case they did.'
No arrests or charges have been laid.

Nottingham attack victims Grace O'Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber to receive posthumous degrees

TWO students who were stabbed to death in the Nottingham attacks will receive posthumous degrees this month. Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, both 19, were killed in Valdo Calocane's rampage in June 2023. 4 The University of Nottingham, where Barnaby was studying history and hockey starlet Grace was a medical student, yesterday confirmed they would both be awarded degrees at this month's graduation ceremonies. A spokesman said: 'We are working with their families to understand how they would prefer to mark this important milestone. 'We also appreciate that this is likely to be an emotional day for their cohort, who will be remembering their friends Barney and Grace.' Barnaby's mother, Emma, said his younger brother would accept the degree on his family's behalf. She added: 'We are so proud that Charlie, who is only 17, is able to go to Nottingham, supported by close friends and family, to accept Barney's degree on our behalf. "Sadly, it's too much for us to bear but we do feel it's important that it's marked.' Caretaker Ian Coates, 65, was also killed in the knife rampage, and Emma added: 'We will use the day to think of Barney, his great friend Grace and also Ian. 'We want to celebrate their lives and not the monster who took them.' Calocane, a paranoid schizophrenic, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in January 2024.

BREAKING NEWS Two teenage boys charged with the murder of a skincaremogul's husband on the Sunshine Coast

Two teenagers have been charged over the death of a Sunshine Coast man who was found dead in the front yard of his home that he shared with his skincare mogul wife. Zdravko Bilic, 57, was allegedly stabbed to death outside his Sunshine Coast home three years after he and wife Gry Tomte moved there to escape Victoria's Covid curfews. He is believed to have been stabbed twice in the stomach late on Sunday night after allegedly confronting a thief breaking into their $2.5million five-bedroom home in Warrana. On Thursday morning, police charged two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17 with murder. They are due to appear at Maroochydore Childrens Court today, 17 July. Detectives believe his body lay in the home's front yard for hours before his worried wife, who was interstate at the time, raised the alarm when she didn't hear from him. A neighbour found the horrific scene and alerted police about 7.30pm on Monday. The glamorous couple, who were due to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary next month, had relocated from Melbourne in 2022 to begin their 'new adventure'. 'I think two years of continuous lockdown and bull***t really took away the shine for me re Melbourne,' Ms Tomte, 53, wrote on social media at the time. 'We are both so happy we made the decision. And now friends can visit our beautiful new home.' The lavish luxury home boasts a stunning lap pool next to the open-plan entertaining area and was just metres from the nearby beach. It was a welcome escape from the bleak lockdowns in Victoria, and both said they were 'so happy,' with their new lifestyle. 'I had the pleasure of calling Melbourne home for almost half my life,' Mr Bilic, known as Zed by friends, posted on Instagram. 'So many fantastic memories with beautiful family and friends at some great events and places.' But he added: 'The most important thing that Melbourne gave me is my wonderful wife. We are super excited with our new adventure.' In March, they were still loving their new life as Queenslanders, with Mr Bilic adding: 'What a fantastic time the last couple of months have been.' Ms Tomte paid tribute to her husband in a statement on Wednesday. 'He was the kindest, gentlest person I've ever known,' she said. 'Loved by everyone who ever had the fortune of meeting him.' A crime scene has been declared at the home, with detectives seeking clues about the possible intruder. 'His wife hadn't heard from him and enquired with the neighbour, who discovered him deceased,' Queensland Police Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said. Mr Bilic was described as a 'valued member of the community' and his death has rocked the quiet coastal suburb. It had been listed on the Red Suburbs website - which tracks danger zones across Australia - as an area where crime ' exists but does not impact most people.' Norwegian-born Ms Tomte opened her successful HÜD Skin and Body clinic, which operates in both St Kilda and Northcote, in 2014. Det Insp Toohey added: 'As you can imagine, it is an extremely distressing time for her, but the community are rallying around her and doing what they can for her.' Police are urging anyone with information or CCTV from the area, between 11pm on July 13 and 7.35pm on July 14, to come forward.

BREAKING NEWS Caitlyn Jenner's pal Sophia Hutchins cause of death revealed after horrific accident in Malibu

Caitlyn Jenner 's late friend Sophia Hutchins died at the age of 29 in a horror ATV accident in Malibu. Hutchins' life was cut short on July 2 after she plunged 350 feet down a cliff on the vehicle after she was believed to have struck a car bumper. On Wednesday her cause of death was shared. A death certificate from the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health, which was obtained by People, shows Hutchins died from 'multiple blunt force injuries.' The case remains open, but her manner of death has been 'ruled an accident.' The reality TV star will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Los Angeles on July 24. Hutchins was featured heavily in the reality series, I Am Cait. The series ran for just two seasons but it gave glimpses into Jenner and Hutchins' unorthodox life together. Later Sophia became the CEO and director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation. Caitlyn Jenner 's late friend Sophia Hutchins died at the age of 29 in a horror ATV accident in Malibu. Hutchins was killed on July 2 after she plunged 350 feet down a cliff on the vehicle after she was believed to have struck a car bumper In 2017, Hutchins moved into Jenner's home and began working as the star's manager in 2015. Before that Kris Jenner managed Caitlyn. sources revealed that after striking the car's bumper, the impact forced the ATV and Hutchins ended up 'plummeting 350ft down into a ravine.' First responders pronounced Hutchins dead at the scene. Investigators told that she was believed to have been speeding in the 2013 Polaris ATV, and was 'side by side' a Mazda when she rear-ended the car. The impact caused the ATV to veer off the cliff off the winding mountainous road in Malibu. The two individuals in the car struck by Hutchins and the ATV were not injured. Hutchins was in Jenner's inner circle for over a decade after she came out as a transgender woman in 2015. The case remains open, but her manner of death has been ruled an accident; seen in 2019 Hutchins met Caitlyn that year and appeared in multiple episodes of the television documentary series I Am Cait, a spin-off of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Despite living under one roof, Hutchins previously told The New York Times that they 'were never romantically involved', insisting it was all about work and friendship. 'Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship,' Sophia said. In 2020, Sophia posed for an online ad campaign for Kim Kardashian's highly successful clothing line SKIMS. Sophia was particularly close to Kris Jenner, speaking to her regularly, and Hutchins also had a good relationship with Jenner's daughters Kendall, 29, and Kylie, 27. The siblings once gave Sophia a stunning heart-shaped diamond necklace for Christmas. 'I'm on good terms with all the family, but I'm closest with Kris, Kim, Kylie and Kendall', Sophia said. The tragedy comes nine years after Jenner was involved in a fatal car crash while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The collision involved four cars and resulted in the death of Kim Howe, 70. Jenner was not charged in the crash, but an investigation by the LA County Sheriff's Office determined that Caitlyn was driving too fast. That opened her up to blame in civil lawsuits, which was later settled out of court. Despite living under one roof, Hutchins previously told The New York Times that they 'were never romantically involved' with each other — a sentiment that pair have repeated over the years. 'I don't feel a need to address my sex life, quite frankly, unless I want to,' Sophia sternly told the outlet at the time.
