The Commissioner said that it was customary for the temple committee to invite the city's 'kotwal', a practice that has continued for over a century, adding that Hyderabad City Police, along with all departments, have put in place robust arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations.
He recalled that the recent Golconda and Balkampet Bonalu events passed off without any incident, and assured that similar vigilance would be maintained for the Lal Darwaza procession.
Special deployment of police personnel from other zones, including Crime Branch units and She Teams, are in place to prevent pick-pocketing, chain-snatching, and eve-teasing. 'Coordination meetings with Water Board, R&B Department, GHMC, and Electricity Department, have already been held,' he said.
Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha took part in the preparatory meetings, and directed officials to ensure seamless execution of arrangements. The Commissioner appealed to temple organisers and devotees to extend full cooperation with the police during the festivities.
Among those present at the puja were GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, DCPs Apoorva Rao, Sneha Mehra, and R. Venkateswarlu, and Temple Committee chairman B. Maruthi Yadav.

478 held by She Teams for sexual harassment during Bonalu and Moharram
A total of 478 individuals, including 92 minors, were nabbed by the She Teams of the Hyderabad Police, for various offences related to harassment and inappropriate behaviour in crowded public gatherings during Bonalu and Moharram in July 2025. Of those caught, 386 were adults. Among those picked up, 288 were let off with warnings after counselling, while four individuals were booked under petty cases that led to convictions and fines totalling ₹1,050. In a separate set of petition disposals, five offenders were convicted, one of whom received imprisonment along with a fine, while four others were fined ₹50 each. Additionally, eight FIRs were registered across different police stations in the city. The police said that several individuals were caught red-handed for misbehaving with women devotees at prominent religious sites such as Golconda Bonalu, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, and Secunderabad's Ujjaini Mahakali Temple. To manage the large festive crowds and enhance women's safety, up to 14 She Teams were deployed at various locations. Beyond enforcement, the teams also undertook extensive outreach efforts. A total of 124 awareness programmes were conducted, alongside 1,405 observations in public spaces and 352 mobile campaigns using audio-visual (AV) vehicles in an attempt to promote awareness about safety, encourage reporting of harassment, and reinforce a culture of zero tolerance towards gender-based misconduct. In an advisory issued to the public, She Teams warned citizens to remain cautious online. People were urged to be wary of fake social media profiles, avoid oversharing personal information, and secure their digital accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. 22-year-old held with 10.5 kg cannabis in Indore; tried to flee during police check, booked under NDPS act
INDORE: Crime branch of Indore police on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old man with over 10.5 kg of cannabis near the Regional Park electric charging station. The accused, identified as Sohan Dawar, a resident of Shail Maheshwar village in Khargone district, was caught during a routine surveillance check. Upon noticing the approaching police vehicle, he attempted to flee, arousing suspicion. He was quickly surrounded and detained for questioning. During the preliminary interrogation, Dawar confessed to procuring cannabis at low prices and selling it at higher rates in Indore to drug-dependent individuals in a bid to make quick money. He admitted that he had come to the city with the intent to distribute the contraband. The police recovered 10.504 kilograms of cannabis and one mobile phone from his possession. According to officials, Dawar is a dropout and works in welding. He has now been booked under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of his network and whether he had accomplices involved in the trafficking operation. The Crime Branch has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach against narcotics and continues to gather intelligence for decisive action against such offenders.

Tamil Nadu school students served food made using human faeces-mixed water
A disturbing incident has come to light in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvarur district, where students at a government school were reportedly served food prepared using water contaminated with human faeces. The matter is currently under investigation by the local to officials, three men allegedly entered the school premises in an inebriated state and deliberately mixed human waste with the drinking water stored in the school kitchen. The contaminated water is believed to have been used in cooking meals served to the incident is under preliminary investigation. We've been looking into it since morning,' a Tiruvarur police official said. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made. More details are awaited as the investigation case has drawn comparisons to the Vengaivayal water tank contamination case from December 2022, when human faeces was discovered floating in an overhead tank supplying drinking water to Scheduled Caste residents in Vengaivayal village in Pudukottai district. That contamination came to light after several children fell ill from consuming the water. Youngsters from the village who inspected the tank found excreta and took photographs, prompting widespread outrage on social Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), on January 24, 2025, informed the Madras High Court that it completed the probe into the Vengaivayal water tank contamination case and filed a chargesheet against three persons. The three individuals named as accused by the CB-CID in the chargesheet, were from the same Scheduled Caste community.
