Kelsey Plum's Request for Caitlin Clark Fan Sparks Outrage

Yahoo5 days ago
Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum is taking some flak for an interaction with a fan wearing a Caitlin Clark shirt.
Ahead of the Sparks' game versus the Chicago Sky on Sunday, June 29, Plum spotted a fan wearing a Clark shirt while watching the team's shootaround.
That led to Plum walking over to the fan and tossing her a Sparks shirt and requesting that the fan wear that over the shirt donning the name of the Indiana Fever star. The fan obliged and took a picture with Plum after.
"You can't wear that in the gym. What is this?' Plum said to the fan, before adding that the fan needs to "do better."
The interaction was all in good fun, but some people didn't pick up on that.
"Caitlin Clark has single-handedly transformed that league, increasing attendance and attention several fold," the New York Post's Jon Heyman wrote in response to the video. "The other players should be thanking her, not dissing her and/or mistreating her."
"Doesn't even try to hide her jealousy," one commenter said of Plum. "If it wasn't for Caitlin, that woman probably wouldn't even know the league existed."
"She's a hater," another reply to the video said of Plum.
There is a widely-held belief among Clark's supporters that her league mates are jealous of her success and popularity.
Plum's interaction with the fan, along with the fact that Clark was voted as the ninth-best guard by her peers in WNBA All-Star voting, won't help to erase that belief.Kelsey Plum's Request for Caitlin Clark Fan Sparks Outrage first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 1, 2025

Taylor Swift to 'take the high road' over Denise Welch jibes

Taylor Swift plans to 'take the high road' after being slammed by ex-boyfriend Matt Healy's mother Denise Welch. The 35-year-old superstar and the 36-year-old 1975 frontman briefly dated following her split from actor Joe Alwyn, in April 2023 and Taylor went on to reference their relationship in her album The Tortured Poets Department. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Matt's mother Denise insisted it was unfair that Matt couldn't talk about the relationship. She said: 'Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost. 'Not that I have anything against [Taylor] at all! It was just – it was tricky. 'Listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she [Taylor] writes a whole album about it.' However, Taylor – who has been happily dating NFL star Travis Kelce for the past few years - plans to ignore Denise's jibes. A source told 'It's a bit obnoxious in Taylor's eyes, but she has to take the high road. 'If there was anything that would be in a future song of Taylor's – if she were ever to respond – she would respond that way. But as of right now, she might just let it slide. She is not going to let Denise ruin her day. 'Taylor respected Denise and will continue to do so, as this will go away very quickly. 'But if Denise continues to talk about it and bash Taylor, then Taylor would say something. The ball is still in Denise's court to see if she wants to continue the narrative she brought upon herself.'

Caitlin Clark breaks own record with one-of-a-kind rookie card auction sell

Caitlin Clark continued her record-setting ways this week. As the Indiana Fever star guard continues to navigate back from a right groin injury, Clark had reason to smile on Thursday night. In the latest illustration of her superstardom, Clark reset her own off-the-court record. On Thursday, one of Clark's rookie cards sold for $660,000 on the Fanatics Collect auction site. It's by far the most ever paid for a women's sports card and it's nearly twice the amount garnered by the previous record holder, which was similarly a Clark rookie card. The new top seller is the 2024 Panini Instant Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Caitlin Clark Logowoman. It features a photo of Clark and a game-worn patch from her Fever uniform. The 1-of-1 numbered, autographed rookie card also has the written message "769 points and counting," referencing Clark's WNBA rookie record number of points scored. This record-setting card garnered 26 bids after extended bidding began at $336,000. It resets the record books after Clark's autographed 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Gold Vinyl 1/1 was auctioned by Goldin for a then-record $366,000. Before that, the record amount garnered by a women's sports card was the $266,400 paid three years ago for a signed 2003 Serena Williams card. Athletics' Nick Kurtz shares heartwarming moment with family after bonkers game

The post Athletics' Nick Kurtz shares heartwarming moment with family after bonkers game appeared first on ClutchPoints. On Friday night at Daikin Park, Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz put forth a historic performance that stunned the baseball world and earned a place in MLB history. In a 15-3 blowout victory over the Houston Astros, the 22-year-old slugger became the first rookie in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate. Kurtz homered in the second, sixth, eighth, and ninth innings, with each home run coming off a different Astros pitcher, Ryan Gusto, Nick Hernandez, Kaleb Ort, and position player Cooper Hummel. His final homer, a three-run shot in the ninth off Hummel's 77 mph pitch, landed in the Crawford Boxes in left field. His third homer of the night, a solo blast in the eighth, traveled 414 feet. Earlier in the game, Kurtz also singled and doubled, with the double in the fourth inning narrowly missing a fifth home run by mere feet. The numbers were staggering, six hits, five extra-base hits, six runs scored, eight RBIs, and a record-tying 19 total bases, matching a modern-era MLB record set by Shawn Green in 2002. Kurtz and Green are now the only two players in MLB history to collect six hits and four home runs in the same game. Since RBIs became official in 1920, Kurtz is the only player ever to achieve in his career: a game with 4+ HR, 5+ XBH, 6+ hits, 6+ runs, and 8+ RBIs, all in one night. What made the night even more special was the presence of Kurtz's family. 'A's rookie Nick Kurtz greets his parents and godparents after the game of his life. It was the first time his godparents had seen him play a big league game. His parents flew in today to attend,' Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported. 'This is the first time my godparents have been here, so they probably have to come in the rest of the year,' Kurtz explained after the game, via The Boston Globe. 'My parents flew in today. They've been here a bunch, but it was cool to have some family here for that.' Kurtz was selected fourth overall by the A's in the 2024 MLB Draft following a standout collegiate career at Wake Forest. He dominated the minors with a 1.283 OPS across Single-A and Double-A, followed by a 1.040 OPS in Triple-A before his MLB debut on April 23, 2025. After struggling early with a .208 average and just one home run through May 19, he turned things around dramatically. Since then, he's slashed .352/.427/.870 with 24 home runs in 43 games, translating to a 90+ homer pace over a full season. In July alone, Kurtz has led all major leaguers in multiple offensive categories, batting average (.425), on-base percentage (.494), slugging (1.082), runs (22), doubles (13), home runs (11), and RBIs (27).
