Bears need experienced players back
Sylvester, 25, earned his deal after several impressive T20 performances for the Bears' second XI and Westwood says the former Derbyshire quick has been a bit unlucky."It's fine margins - he's had a few nicked over slips and keeper and he's got a few wrong himself so it's fine lines," he said."He's learning on the job but he'll keep trying his heart out."
Westwood also said they are yet to work out "the right role" for another of their fast bowlers, George Garton. The former Sussex left-armer's two overs against Nottinghamshire cost 36 runs and he did not bowl against DurhamWestwood said that was down to the player carrying a slight hamstring issue."He was there if needed in the middle overs but we wanted him in there for his fielding - he's a good all-round package so we need to make sure we get him in the best place possible."We're going to try to see how best to use George. He's got so much quality with ball, bat and in the field, it's just finding the right role for him."
The Bears are back in action on Friday against Yorkshire at Edgbaston (19:00 BST) and could have seamer Richard Gleeson available following his stint in the Indian Premier League.Hasan Ali arrives back in Birmingham on Friday, while Westwood is hoping all-rounder Dan Mousley might be made available by England Lions, having hit a century in their drawn first unofficial 'Test' against India A."We've got guys slowly coming back in over the next few games and are looking forward to getting some experience back," Westwood said."We've lost 12 banker overs there [with Gleeson, Ali and Mousley] but it's not an excuse, we've got a squad for a reason and we were confident of getting something from these two games."

Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak situation is ‘far from ideal'
Eddie Howe admits the Alexander Isak situation is 'far from ideal' but still hopes to see the unsettled star back in a Newcastle shirt after confirming the club rejected an offer from Liverpool. The 25-year-old Swede, one of the hottest properties in world football, has had his head turned by the Premier League champions' interest this summer. Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour due to what the club called a 'minor thigh injury', only for his unhappiness to emerge along with the fact he is training at former club Real Sociedad. 'I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,' Magpies boss Howe said, as reported by The Athletic. 'I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it. 'There are people back in England dealing with the situation. I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' Newcastle head back from Asia after Sunday's friendly against Tottenham in Seoul, where Howe revealed he learned Isak was training in Spain with his former club through the media. 'I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any detail,' the said. 'The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say.'

Liverpool's Tyler Morton inching closer to joining Lyon in a deal worth up to £15m - with the Reds starlet in search of first-team football
Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is close to securing a move to French side Lyon worth up to £15million. The England U21 international has been looking to move for more regular first team game time and has attracted enquiries from a number of clubs including West Ham, Sporting Braga, Ajax and Strasbourg. Liverpool have been holding out for £15m for the 22-year old homegrown academy graduate and Lyon have now provisionally agreed terms with a deal expected to go through. Morton spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Championship side Hull City. The 22-year-old returned to Merseyside last season but could only manage six appearances in all competitions as Arne Slot led the club to Premier League glory in his maiden campaign in charge. Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez remains an option for Saudi club Al Hilal. Liverpool have been holding out for £70m for the Uruguay international and have already rejected an approach from Al Nassr in February and again more recently from Napoli. Newcastle have Nunez on their long list of options but they have other targets higher up as priorities and Liverpool are yet to indicate if they will make a new bid for Alexander Isak. Meanwhile former Manchester United coach Simon Wiles has taken over as Liverpool U18 coach.
