The cruel act that left happy-go-lucky student at $40,000-a-year private school isolated, suffering PTSD and working at a supermarket
A former student is suing his prestigious Melbourne grammar school after he began suffering from a post-traumatic stress disorder after a violent incident on campus.
The young man - who has asked to remain anonymous - alleged a fellow student at Caulfield Grammar School poured hot liquid over his head and face in late 2019.
'At 15 years old, I was just settling into a new school with high hopes and big dreams,'the now-20-year-old said in a statement shared with Daily Mail Australia.
'What happened to me wasn't an accident; it wasn't a misunderstanding. It was an act of cruelty, and I was the target.
'The physical pain was horrible, but the emotional damage has stayed with me far longer.'
In a writ filed with Victoria's County Court on June 17, the former student listed injuries including post-traumatic stress disorder, scarring, and pain and shock.
He said he incurred hospital and medical expenses, as well as claiming a loss of earnings and loss of earning capacity.
'As a result of his injury, the Plaintiff repeated Year 10 and did a non-scored VCE in 2020. Presently, (he) is working in a supermarket,' the writ said.
'I haven't been the same. My mum said I used to be happy-go-lucky, always smiling, always social,' he said.
'Now I rarely go out with friends, and I often feel isolated. I don't trust easily, not after what happened. That one moment changed the trajectory of my life.'
He described how, to most people, he looks 'fine' but added: 'When I'm out in the sun, the affected skin reacts, and I also suffer from severe PTSD'.
The writ describes at least 15 alleged failings by Caulfield Grammar which the young man's solicitor Aristea Nikolakakis, from Shine Lawyers, has outlined.
'We allege the school was warned about this student's propensity for violence and yet did nothing to protect our client,' she said in a statement.
'We allege our client had been physically threatened by this student in the past and yet nothing was done to keep him safe.'
She alleged the school breached its duty of care to the young man by not taking action over the threat and that it had 'ample warning' that he was 'in danger'.
'This wasn't an isolated issue,' Ms Nikolakakis said.
'This was an ongoing situation the school was aware of between the other student and my client, and the school failed to protect my client by intervening when they should have.'
The young man said the management of the alleged incident on the school's Wheelers Hill campus is 'what made it worse' and claimed teachers assumed he was at fault because he was new.
'They believed the other student, someone who had been there longer. The school did me a disservice, not only by failing to hold the student accountable in a meaningful way, but also by failing to support me during... and after the incident,' he said.
He also said Caulfield Grammar never called an ambulance and that his 18-year-old brother had to take him to the hospital.
'I had strong ambitions, especially in soccer,' he said, adding that a change of rules then stumped his hopes of earning the role of captain.
'That leadership role, that recognition of my hard work, was taken away, just like everything else that year.
'I still wonder what life might have looked like if that incident had never happened.'

After connecting on social media a month earlier, the two spent weeks exchanging messages before he allegedly invited her to his home. The accuser claims she and a friend attended Retzlaff's home that night, where his friends and teammates were also socializing. Later, she claims, after her friend went home, she and Retzlaff began to watch a movie and ultimately began kissing. Jane Doe's lawsuit states she did not immediately disclose Retzlaff's name to Provo police, but later informed them that it was the BYU quarterback, only to be told victims 'never get justice' However, she says she did not want to go any further. 'Retzlaff began escalating the situation,' the filing reads, 'and Jane Doe A.G. tried to de-escalate the situation and attempted to slow things down, trying to pull away, and saying "wait." She did not want to do anything sexual with him.' After allegedly telling Retzlaff 'no' and trying to leave, Retzlaff grabbed her by the neck and proceeded to rape her, according to the lawsuit. The experience was so painful, Doe claims in her lawsuit, that she actually 'passed out.' Sean ‘Diddy' Combs and son Justin accused of rape in new US lawsuit
As closing arguments got under way in the federal sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial of Sean 'Diddy' Combs this week, the music mogul and his son Justin Combs were hit with a new lawsuit, accusing them of a 'brutal gang-rape' in 2017. In the suit filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday, a woman alleges that Justin Combs used his father's celebrity status to 'lure [the] plaintiff, a young female, from Louisiana to Los Angeles where she was literally held prisoner for a weekend and repeatedly raped' by the pair and two other masked men, according to the complaint. The lawsuit comes amid the final phase of the seven-week trial for Combs, and on the day the mogul's son Christian, who raps as King Combs, released a seven-song album – including one called Diddy Free – on streaming services. The woman is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the assault, which, according to the suit, left her with 'severe emotional distress, emotional anguish, fear, anxiety, humiliation, embarrassment, physical injury, emotional injury and trauma'. In a statement to media, Combs's legal team denied the allegations, stating that 'anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason'. The statement said: 'No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won't change the fact that Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone – man or woman, adult or minor.'

Elderly patient allegedly punches female paramedic who was trying to help him
An elderly man has been detained after allegedly punching a female paramedic in the back of an ambulance after she tried to offer him help. Police were called to the intersection of Bunnerong Road and Daunt Avenue in Matraville, in Sydney 's east, about 3.50pm on Friday following reports of a concern for welfare. Officers asked for help from NSW Ambulance to treat an allegedly intoxicated 66-year-old man. Paramedics assessed the man at the scene and began transporting him to Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick when the alleged assault occurred. Police allege the man threatened a 24-year-old female paramedic while inside the ambulance before he began to punch her in the torso and arms. 'Police immediately attended and assisted paramedics taking the man to hospital under police guard,' NSW Police said in a statement. 'The 24-year-old paramedic did not require treatment.' Police then made inquiries before the elderly man was released from hospital and taken to Mascot Police Station. He was charged with assault frontline health worker no actual bodily harm. The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
