The news which all of a Barcelona persuasion had been so eagerly awaiting was of course finally forthcoming last month.
This came in the form of an announcement, confirming the club's planned return date to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.
The intention, it was revealed, was to play the annual Joan Gamper Trophy match at the ground on August 10th.
As alluded to above, though, this week, as much has been thrown into serious doubt.
As per a report from RAC1:
'Barcelona City Council considers it very unlikely that Barça can return to the Camp Nou on August 10 for the Gamper.
'It was surprising that the return campaign was launched without having the permits approved.'

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso on Rodrygo Goes future – ‘Throughout this championship…'
Real Madrid had bigger concerns on their mind after a humbling defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. However the future of Brazilian star Rodrygo Goes remains one of the significant topics of debate at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Wednesday night did little to ease speculation. Despite the fact Xabi Alonso went for three up front against PSG, Rodrygo was again nowhere to be seen. He spent the entire game on the bench, with Gonzalo Garcia and Brahim Diaz used ahead of him. 'No decisions made' on Rodrygo future It has been a regular question that Alonso has faced during the Club World Cup, and Alonso has previously indicated that he believes Rodrygo could get back to his best, and was keen to play. However it was again a topic for Alonso to deal with after he stayed on the bench. Advertisement 'The fact that he didn't play again was a decision based on the game. The way things were going, we needed a different player. Throughout this championship, there haven't been any decisions about the future; we haven't rotated much.' Image viaAlonso leaves Club World Cup with 'certainties' In spite of remaining non-committal on Rodrygo's future, Alonso did say that he had a clearer idea of what Real Madrid needed going into the summer. He also seemed to hint that he at least was keen for Los Blancos to be active in the transfer market. Rodrygo on Arsenal agenda The main suitor for Rodrygo appears to be Arsenal. However the Gunners have no plans to move for him until later in the transfer window. Back in Madrid, the plan is for Alonso to discuss his plans with Rodrygo before a decision is made on it, but Real Madrid are open to a sale for the right price. Without a significant U-turn, it appears his future is away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Argentina stay top in FIFA rankings; Germany rise to ninth
World champions Argentina maintained first place in the men's world football rankings while Germany climbed into crucial ninth place in the latest list issued on Thursday by the ruling body FIFA. Argentina lead the way from European champions Spain and France in an unchanged top three, with England and Brazil following. Advertisement Portugal rose past the Netherlands into sixth by virtue of their Nations League title, with Belgium, Germany and Croatia completing the top 10. Germany and Croatia both rose at the expense of Italy who slipped from ninth to 11th. Germany climbed despite defeats against Portugal and France at the Nations League finals, because by FIFA rules defeats at final tournaments don't lead to point deductions in the rankings. Ninth place is important for the 2026 World Cup draw set for later in the year. The top nine teams from the rankings will be seeded along with the three co-hosts United States, Canada and Mexico, and in this way will avoid another top side in the group stage. Elsewhere in the rankings, Costa Rica were the biggest riser as they gained 14 places to 40th thanks to a Gold Cup quarter-final berth. Tournament winners Mexico rose four into 13th.
