Billy Joel is a 'fighter' in wake of brain disorder health battle
The new documentary 'Billy Joel: And So It Goes' covers the life and career of the legendary musician, 76, featuring interviews with Joel, family members, his ex-wife Christie Brinkley, and fellow industry heavyweights such as Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney.
'I asked [Joel] … at the very beginning – if there were any sensitive areas. Not that I would have necessarily stayed away from them, but I wanted to know what they were,' co-director Susan Lacy exclusively told The Post. 'And his answer to that was, 'tell the truth. That's the only way to go.'
She explained that while probing into the 'Vienna' singer's life, 'nothing was off limits.'

'He didn't see the film until it was finished, so he stuck by that,' Lacy explained. 'And we took that as permission to tell the real story about Billy Joel.'
In fact, the 'Uptown Girl' crooner had no editorial control over the film.
'I think it was courageous of him to give us that carte blanche and trust in us to tell that story – because not everybody would do that,' co-director Jessica Levin told The Post. 'I think he realized, 'I need to do my part, and try to go places where it might not be 100 comfortable for me.''

The film covers topics such as Joel's suicide attempt in his twenties, after he had an affair with his friend's wife – Elizabeth Weber, who would become Joel's first wife from 1973 to 1982.
Joel then went on to marry Brinkley, 71, from 1985 to 1994, with whom he shares daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 39; Katie Lee from 2004 to 2009, and he tied the knot with his current wife, Alexis Roderick, in 2015. The two share daughters Della Rose, 9, and Remy Anne, 7.

In the documentary, Joel sounds matter of fact about his attempt to take his own life.
'It was a long time ago. He was young, and he was heartbroken. He felt quite lost at that point,' Lacy said. 'There were a lot of emotional elements going on. He just didn't know which way to turn.'
Levin chimed in: 'I think it's important that it's not that he doesn't take suicide and depression seriously. He certainly takes those topics seriously. But for him, it was a very early moment in his career….Honestly, Billy is kind of a matter of fact guy and he's a guy that does try to build and move on.'

After he saw the finished documentary, Joel wrote Lacy a note.
'He thanked me for so masterfully connecting the dots of his life and said that he now knew why he did what he did.'
'There's a real dichotomy with Billy – a man who put his life out there in his lyrics, but he doesn't believe in self-examination particularly….He put it in his music. And that saved his life,' she went on. 'He used music to cope with his life and to express his life and to what was going on. But I don't think he ever stood back and went, 'let's see how these dots connect with each other.' And that's what we did in this film.'

In May, Joel revealed that he's been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a disorder that happens when cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain, disrupting cognitive functioning.
Amid his health battle, he skipped the June premiere of 'Billy Joel: And So It Goes' at Tribeca Film Festival.
Lacy said his health issues didn't impact the project because it happened after they finished filming.

'I think he's working on recovering, and he's resilient. He's a fighter.'
Aside from being a nod to one of his songs, the doc title 'And So It Goes' encapsulates Joel's approach to life.
'Which is, and, so it goes. 'I'm going to move on [from setbacks] and I'm not finished yet.' And here he is today, with this incredibly strong woman as his wife and these beautiful daughters,' Levin told The Post. 'It's important to him to stay around as long as he can for his children and his family. He cares deeply about that. He is the ultimate romantic.'
'Billy Joel: And So It Goes' Part One premieres on HBO Max on Friday, July 18 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Part Two on Friday, July 25.

Prince William and Kate Middleton could break this 30-year royal rule for Prince George
Prince William and Kate Middleton are weighing out their options when it comes to their eldest son Prince George's future travels, The Post hears. The Prince and Princess of Wales are looking into the possibility of scrapping a 30-year-old rule that prohibits senior members of the royal family from traveling together past the age of 12. The rule was initially established to safeguard the monarchy's line of succession in the event of a tragic accident. 5 Prince William and Kate Middleton are weighing out their options when it comes to their eldest son Prince George's future travels, The Post hears. / Insiders tell The Post that the Waleses are having talks with advisors and aides about potentially axing the decades-long tradition once George turns 12 on July 22. King Charles's former pilot, Graham Laurie, said the rule was firmly put into place when William turned 12. 'Interestingly, we flew [Charles], Princess [Diana], Prince William and Prince Harry, up until Prince William was 12 years old,' Laurie previously said on 'A Right Royal Podcast.' 'After that, he had to have a separate aircraft, and we could only fly all four together when they were young with the written permission of Her Majesty,' referring to the late Queen Elizabeth II. 5 Prince George, who is second in line to the throne, is set to turn 12 on July 22. INSTARimages While a concrete decision has yet to be announced, the Waleses also have the option of requesting special permission from King Charles to continue traveling together as a family. The Post has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment. Separately, William and Kate are reportedly also considering breaking from tradition when it comes to raising Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who are third and fourth in line to the throne, respectively. 5 The Prince of Wales is looking into the possibility of scrapping a 30-year-old rule that prohibits senior members of the royal family to travel together past the age of 12. Andrew Matthews/PA Images/INSTARimages The proud parents are said to have always aimed to raise their three children with a 'normal' approach to upbringing, one that focuses on modern parenting and less on the formality of their royal titles. The royal children were enrolled in co-ed schools outside of London — underscoring the Prince and Princess' desire to carve out their own path for their children. What's more, William, who is first in line to the British throne, has long highlighted the importance of giving his children a grounded upbringing — despite their royal status. 5 Prince George sits in the back seat of a helicopter with Princess Catherine at RAF Fairford on July 8, 2016. Getty Images 'I want George to grow up in a real, living environment, I don't want him growing up behind palace walls, he has to be out there,' the future king told British GQ in 2017. 'The media make it harder but I will fight for them to have a normal life.' Still, not all traditions are being left in the rearview mirror. Last month, it emerged that Prince George is reportedly set to enroll at the prestigious Eton College — William and his estranged brother Prince Harry's former school, which has long been a popular choice among royals, politicians and aristocrats. 5 Separately, William and Kate are reportedly also considering breaking from tradition when it comes to raising their three children. Getty Images Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are all currently enrolled at Lambrook School in Berkshire, England, which sits nearby their Adelaide Cottage home. Once George turns 12 in July, however, he will reportedly be moving to the $82,000-per-year college in September. Prior to committing to Eton, the young royal had toured two other schools in North London, including Highgate School. Despite the report, Kensington Palace has yet to formally announce the future of George, Charlotte and Louis' education. Eton College is located a short stroll away from William and Kate's family home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Home Park.

Astronomer slams ‘fake' Andy Byron apology after CEO caught in Coldplay ‘kiss cam' scandal
The tech firm home to CEO Andy Byron and his alleged HR mistress – who were caught cozying up on a 'kiss cam' at a Coldplay concert – has quickly refuted a fake apology going viral online. New York-based AI firm Astronomer told The Post that the statement circulating on social media – which claimed to be written by Byron himself with intimate apologies to his wife and children – is 'fake.' The imposter statement took a somber tone but ended with a cheesy nod to Coldplay's 2005 hit 'Fix You': 'As a friend once sang: 'Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.'' Advertisement 4 Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and head of HR Kristin Cabot at the Coldplay concert. Grace Springer via Storyful 4 The faux statement quickly gained traction online. Neither Byron nor Kristin Cabot, the company's chief human resources officer, have spoken publicly about the Coldplay scandal – when they were caught in a loving embrace on the concert 'kiss cam.' Byron quite literally ducked out of frame while Cabot covered her face and turned around, putting her back toward the camera. Advertisement Chris Martin, the band's frontman, initially thought the camera had found a sweet moment, saying: 'Look at these two.' But their panicked reaction soon had him speculating on a much less savory situation. 'Oh, what?' Martin can be heard saying on stage in a TikTok video that has racked up more than 50 million views and over 5 million likes. Advertisement 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy,' Martin quipped. The faux statement posted late Thursday quickly gained traction on social media, with many users tearing into the fake Byron. 'I also want to express how troubling it is that what should have been a private moment became public without my consent,' the forged statement said. 'I respect artists and entertainers, but I hope we can all think more deeply about the impact of turning someone else's life into a spectacle.' Advertisement 4 Andy Byron ducked down while Kristin Cabot turned her back toward the camera. Grace Springer via Storyful 4 Cabot serves as chief people officer at Astronomer. Astronomer A social media user on X pointed out fishy behavior from the account that posted the so-called statement. 'The 'statement from Astronomer CEO Andy Byron' that's going around originated with a 50-follower account called 'Peter Enis.' As in 'P. Enis,'' the user wrote. That account had included 'CBS News' in its username, seemingly trying to pose as a reporter for the Tiffany Network. The company has not posted on its social media accounts since the scandal made headlines on Wednesday. Astronomer did not respond to inquiries about whether it was planning to issue a statement on the matter.
