RESIDENTS of a home at Lake Macquarie watched their own car be reversed out of their driveway by two strange men before they were threatened with a knife.
Detectives have appealed for information from the public as they investigate property and knife offences that unfolded in March.
Police were told two occupants of a home on Welch Street at Wyee, in Lake Macquarie, were woken by the sound of an engine revving outside.
A 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman exited the house and saw two unknown males in a BMW hatchback that the occupants of the home owned.
As the men attempted to drive off, they reversed the hatchback into another vehicle that was parked on the street, causing damage to both.
The residents approached their BMW but were allegedly threatened by one of the males inside with a knife, before the man and woman retreated back inside their home.
The would-be car thieves then ran from the scene on foot towards Cudmore Crescent. Meanwhile, Lake Macquarie police were alerted.
Police searched the area and discovered a knife and a packet of gum, which were seized to undergo forensic examination.
As police investigations continue, anyone with information or relevant CCTV footage has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference event number E101938516.

Vince McMahon involved in car crash

Vince McMahon was involved in a car crash last week. The WWE co-founder was issued a misdemeanour summons for reckless driving and following too closely resulting in an accident after the vehicle he was driving went into the back of another car before hitting a guardrail. The incident happened in Connecticut at around 9am last Thursday (24.07.25) and according to a crash report obtained by TMZ, the 79-year-old businessman was travelling northbound on Route 15 in Westport when his 2024 Bentley ran into the back of a 2023 BMW 430 before hitting a median wooden-beam guardrail. Debris from the collision then flew into the left side of the two-lane road, and a third vehicle, a southbound Ford Fusion then ran into it. The force of the impact was so severe, the airbags were deployed on both Vince's car and the BMW and all three cars had to be towed from the scene. All three drivers were wearing seatbelts and no major injuries were reported, though the guardrail suffered around 30 feet of damage. Photos from the scene of the accident showed the car belonging to Vince - who will appear in court next month - sustained severe damage on both sides near the front wheels, while the driver-side fender was scraped, dented and detached, and glass from a rear tail light was missing. The accident happened the same day that Vince's friend, Hulk Hogan, died at the age of 71, and he later paid tribute to the wrestling legend. He wrote on X: 'The world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. "He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon. "His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled - and made him the consummate performer. "He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected and loved. 'He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions, 'Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers.' Today, we pray for him.' Vince stepped down as CEO and chairman of WWE in June 2022 amid an investigation over allegations he had paid a former employee $3 million to hide their affair. The investigation ended in November that year, and the following January he was unanimously elected executive chairman of the board. However, he resigned from WWE's parent company, TKO Group Holdings, a year later after he was sued by ex-employee Janel Grant for "physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault and trafficking", allegations which he denied.

17-year-old boy charged with killing nurse while riding an e-bike, as father claims he has no control over him

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly killing a 59-year-old nurse from Perth while riding an unregistered electric motorbike. Police allege the teenager was riding recklessly through the northern suburbs before the fatal collision. The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is accused of hitting the nurse while riding an e-bike recklessly. Officers had reportedly attempted to stop the teen just five minutes before the fatal crash. The court heard one of the rider's tyres was damaged from travelling at high speed, causing him to lose control multiple times - but he still refused to stop. The prosecutor said the teen's dangerous behaviour began after he stopped taking prescribed medication, choosing instead to self-medicate with cannabis - which police later found in his bag. It was also revealed the boy has ADHD and autism and is currently on an NDIS plan. The court was told his parents are separated, he no longer attends school, and that his father had 'absolutely no control over his behaviour.' The teen is reportedly displaying obsessive compulsive behaviour in custody, frequently cleaning and mopping floors at the detention centre. Detective Sergeant Ollie Edwards said: 'We have seen various instances of e-rideables or electric motorcycles or similar involved in fatal crashes in Perth recently.' Police confirmed others were present in the park at the time and are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or has footage of the bike to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
