Committee approves JD719,000 in rural electricity projects for 186 sites
Kharabsheh said the committee had endorsed several projects and locations for grid connection under the Rural Fils framework, including residential communities and economic activities, following amendments to the guidelines governing electricity connections financed by the Rural Fils.
Hisham Momani, Director of the Electricity and Rural Electrification Directorate at the Ministry, detailed the approved allocations. They include JD179,000 for residential clusters of five homes located outside planning boundaries, and JD114,000 for clusters of at least three homes in similar areas. Additionally, JD52,000 was approved for individual homes outside planning zones benefiting from existing infrastructure.
A portion of the funding, amounting to JD10,000, was allocated to support homes of low-income families situated within planning boundaries and electricity company concession areas. This reflects the Ministry's commitment to social support and equitable access to energy.
Productive projects in poverty pockets outside planning areas such as poultry, cattle, sheep, and fish farms received JD73,000 in funding. These efforts align with national goals to support farmers, bolster livestock production, and enhance food security and self-reliance.
The approved list also includes JD40,000 to illuminate roads leading to cemeteries, facilitating nighttime burials. A further JD153,000 was allocated to support productive, industrial, and investment ventures in underserved areas, contingent on the creation of local employment opportunities.
Momani added that JD59,000 was designated to electrify farms containing artesian wells outside planning boundaries, with the aim of supporting agricultural sustainability. An additional JD39,000 was allocated to projects serving government entities, agricultural cooperatives, and charitable associations.

Trump signs tax and spending bill into law
Ammon News - U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law a massive package of tax and spending cuts at the White House on Friday, staging an outdoor ceremony on the Fourth of July holiday that took on the air of a Trump political rally. With military jets flying overhead and hundreds of supporters in attendance, Trump signed the bill one day after the Republican-controlled House of Representatives narrowly approved the signature legislation of the president's second term. The bill, which will fund Trump's immigration crackdown, make his 2017 tax cuts permanent, and is expected to knock millions of Americans off health insurance, was passed with a 218-214 vote after an emotional debate on the House floor. "I've never seen people so happy in our country because of that, because so many different groups of people are being taken care of: the military, civilians of all types, jobs of all types," Trump said at the ceremony, thanking House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune for leading the bill through the two houses of Congress. "So you have the biggest tax cut, the biggest spending cut, the largest border security investment in American history," Trump said. After a speech that included boastful claims about the ascendance of America on his watch, Trump signed the bill. The bill's passage amounts to a big win for Trump and his Republican allies, who have argued it will boost economic growth, while largely dismissing a nonpartisan analysis predicting it will add more than $3 trillion to the nation's $36.2 trillion debt. Jordan's tourism surges 18% in first half of 2025
Jordan's tourism sector is experiencing a remarkable upswing, with a significant increase in international arrivals and revenues during the first half of 2025, according to a new report released by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Between January and June, the Kingdom welcomed 3.29 million visitors, marking an 18 percent jump from the 2.78 million recorded during the same period in 2024. The growth has been consistent despite ongoing challenges in the region, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported. The latest figures show that June alone saw around 595,000 international tourists, reflecting an 8 percent increase from June 2024. The Ministry attributed this rise to successful global promotional efforts and continuous improvements in tourism services and infrastructure. In the second quarter of 2025 (April–June), visitor arrivals hit 1.78 million, up 23 percent from 1.45 million in the same quarter last year. The increase spans both overnight stays and same-day visits. Overnight tourists reached 2.72 million in the first six months of the year, a 14 percent increase over the 2.38 million reported in 2024. Meanwhile, same-day visits surged by 40 percent, rising from 411,000 to approximately 575,000. The upward trend is also reflected in tourism revenues. In the first five months of 2025, the sector generated JD2.17 billion, representing a 16 percent growth compared to JD1.87 billion during the same period last year. May alone brought in JD447 million, an 18 percent rise from JD380 million the previous May. European markets led the surge in overnight tourist numbers, posting an 82 percent increase, followed by 44 percent growth from the Asia-Pacific region, 43 percent from the Americas, and a more modest 5 percent from Arab countries. Officials say this performance underscores the effective coordination between the Ministry, tourism boards, private sector operators, airlines, and investors who have worked together to enhance the country's appeal. Efforts to diversify tourism offerings, improve visitor experiences, and reach new international markets have played a central role in positioning Jordan as a competitive destination known for its cultural, religious, and natural sites.

Microsoft is laying off as many as 9,000 employees
Ammon News - Microsoft confirmed that it's laying off as many as 9,100 employees, or about 4 percent of its workforce, in yet another round of cuts this year, reports The Seattle Times. Employees in Microsoft's Xbox division, known as Microsoft Gaming, are being hit hard by these layoffs, although exact numbers and divisions are not yet known. Xbox leader Phil Spencer said in a message to the team, 'To position Gaming for enduring success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas, we will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft's lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness.' Bloomberg reports that the now Microsoft-owned King division that makes Candy Crush is cutting about 10 percent of employees, or 200 people, while other units, like ZeniMax, have also confirmed they are cutting jobs. Microsoft is also laying off more than 70 people at its Forza Motorsport studio, Turn 10, as well as cancelling its Perfect Dark and Everwild games. The studio behind Perfect Dark, The Initiative, is also closing down as part of these layoffs. These major layoffs come less than two months after Microsoft announced it was cutting more than 6,000 employees, followed by an additional 305 reductions in early June. Microsoft employees have faced a series of layoffs over the past year, including a round of performance-based cuts that have seriously hit morale, according to multiple Microsoft employees I've spoken to.
