Hyderabad restaurateur held with cocaine in sandals
Hyderabad: Two persons, including a restaurant owner, were caught by anti-drug enforcement wing EAGLE at Kompally on Monday night. The restaurant owner was placed under arrest after a search of his vehicle yielded the possession of cocaine and other narcotic substances. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police said he was both a consumer and supplier, abusing drugs at prominent pubs in the city, and supplying the contraband to fitness enthusiasts, IT professionals and doctors among other high-profile clients. EAGLE officials said that Surya Annamaneni, a BTech-MBA graduate, was sourcing the drug from several peddlers, both Indian and foreign nationals, residing in various parts of India. The enforcement team, which kept surveillance on Surya, caught him while he was seated in his SUV in front of his restaurant, Malnadu Kitchen, in Kompally on Monday night. The vehicle was searched and the officials found drugs stashed in the heels of ladies footwear, which was a parcel. 'The searches resulted in discovery of 10 grams of cocaine, 3.2 grams OG Kush (Ganja), and 1.6 grams of Ecstasy pills. The cocaine was hidden ingeniously in the heel of the ladies' footwear, packed inside a pink cardboard box, and sent by courier from New Delhi under the alias name 'Fatima', EAGLE officials said. Humble beginnings Surya, who started his career in Bengaluru as a sales manager, returned to Hyderabad in 2020 and started his own restaurant. Initially, he got into drugs as a consumer and later he became a supplier and his clientele included fitness enthusiasts, IT professionals, doctors and directors of a pub. 'The accused maintained financial dealings through personal and commercial bank accounts, including the one linked to Ternion Hospitality, a business entity created while taking over a Madhapur-based restaurant,'' police said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While investigating the case, the officials found that he was getting drugs from Harsha of Himayatnagar, Sandeep Juvvadi of Karimnagar, and Pallepaka Mohan of Khajaguda. Similarly, Nigerian drug traffickers — Nick, Jerry, Dezmond, Stanley, and Prince — were supplying the contraband from Delhi, Bengaluru, and Goa. Investigators tracked bank transactions done by the accused with drug suppliers. 'Several pubs have come under scrutiny for facilitating drug consumption by allocating restricted areas for substance use. The accused also revealed that he, along with friends, made multiple trips to Goa, where they procured and abused cocaine from Nigerian nationals Dezmond and Stanley. In 2022, a visit to New Delhi for a wedding brought him into contact with another Nigerian supplier, Prince, from whom he procured cocaine.

Tension in Ratlam over viral video, 4 arrested
Indore: A tense situation emerged in Ratlam district's Sailana tehsil on Monday after a video went viral showing a youth blowing fire onto a banner displaying 'Hindu Rashtra' during a Muharram procession. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night at Masjid Chauraha, caused the banner to partially burn and sparked widespread outrage. The video, which circulated widely on Monday morning, depicts a young man taking a flammable substance (probably petrol) into his mouth and igniting it towards a saffron banner emblazoned with the words 'Hindu Rashtra' in large script. Following the viral video, the Sarva Hindu Samaj and other religious and social organisations condemned the act as deliberate and an insult to the saffron flag. In protest, markets in the area remained closed. Hindu organisations also highlighted that a large number of people were present at the scene, but no one intervened to stop the youth. They demanded strict action against the accused under the National Security Act (NSA). Angered by the incident, protesters gathered at Masjid Chauraha and sat on the road to recite the Hanuman Chalisa. Senior police officials, including Sailana SDOP Neelam Baghel, Ratlam Rural SDOP Kishore Patanwala, and Station In-charge Suresh Gadaria, were present at the scene to manage the situation. ASP Rakesh Khakha assured the gathered crowd that strict action would be taken against the four arrested individuals and the organisers of the event. Following this assurance, the protest was called off. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any further escalation. Ratlam Police launched a probe to verify the authenticity of the video, while security forces were also deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain peace. By afternoon, the police arrested four persons for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste, or community, and acts that are prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony, the ASP said. The arrested persons have been identified as Ajju Shah, son of Ramjani Shah, resident of Masjid Chauraha; Bablu Shah, resident of Kabristan Road; Shehzad, son of Salim Mev; and Bhayyu, son of Munna Khan Pathan, both residents of Kalika Mata Road in Sailana, police said. "A case has been registered against these four under Section 196 of BNS. All four of them were sent to jail after being produced before the court. Further probe was on," the ASP said.
