Chhattisgarh: Congress' Sachin Pilot meets family of police official killed in IED blast

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 24 (ANI): Congress leader and the party's Chhattisgarh in-charge Sachin Pilot met with the family members of Akash Rao Giripunje, Additional Superintendent of Police, who lost his life in an IED blast in Sukma district. Congress's state president Deepak Baij, Chhattisgarh Assembly's leader of Opposition Charandas Mahant, party MLA Devendra Yadav, former MLA Vikas Upadhyay and others accompanied Pilot to meet the families. Pilot said that the sacrifice of the ASP will always be remembered, as he assured the family of support in any possible way. 'I expressed condolences to the family of the officer. We will support them in all possible way, and government is also helping them... We will always remember their sacrifice,' he told ANI. He also criticised the state government for 'turning away from its promises,' and said that the Congress party's president, Mallikarjun Kharge, along with senior leader KC Venugopal, will be visiting Chhattisgarh on July 7. 'Concentrating entire country's power in few people's hands is wrong... Many state governments and the Union government is sidelining all sorts of processes and achieving their target, which we are against... The Chhattisgarh government is neither with the farmers, and is also turning away from its promises... Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal are coming to Chhattisgarh on 7th July... State government will come to know who the public stands with,' Pilot said. Earlier on June 23, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the family members of ASP Giripunje. In a post on X, Shah wrote, 'Today, I met the family members of senior police officer Akash Rao Giripunje, who was martyred in the fight against Naxalism in Nava Raipur (Chhattisgarh). The Modi government is moving forward in the direction of paying tribute to all the immortal martyrs by making India free of naxalism by March 31, 2026.' According to officials, ASP Giripunje was on foot patrol duty to prevent any Naxalite incident, when the IED blast occurred near Dondra on Konta-Errabora road, due to which ASP Konta Division, Sukma district, Akash Rao Giripunje sustained serious injuries. Minor alters statement in case against ex-min's son

Patna: The allegations against Mukesh Sahni, son of former minister Ramashray Sahni, took a dramatic turn on Monday as the 17-year-old minor at the centre of the case continued to alter her statements. What began as a case of kidnapping and rape has now shifted to charges of molestation. The matter drew widespread attention when the girl went missing on Friday night and was located by police on Saturday evening. Her statement was recorded in a Samastipur court under Section 164 on Monday and her medical examination was conducted at sadar hospital, police said. According to the FIR, the victim claimed she was forcibly taken by Mukesh and his driver, Raghubir, while stepping out of her home. She alleged that they took her to several places and harassed her before leaving her at an isolated spot. An audio clip later surfaced in which she apologised to her parents, saying she was running away because Mukesh had allegedly filmed and sexually assaulted her. However, she later altered her statement to allegations of molestation. Samastipur ASP Sanjay Pandey said it was essential to record the girl's statement under Section 164 before a magistrate. The police are still awaiting the court-issued copy. An FIR under the POCSO Act has been filed against Mukesh and Raghubir. The driver has already been arrested and sent to jail, he said. "The former minister has denied the allegations, claiming his son is being framed in a political conspiracy. According to him, his driver saw the girl in a suspicious situation with another boy named Anshu and recorded a video. He maintained his son's innocence and cooperated with the police investigation," the ASP said.

Teen rape survivor gives birth in MP's Jabalpur; accused held

A 16-year-old girl, allegedly raped by a man who befriended her on social media, gave birth at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, police said on Friday. The police on Thursday arrested the 21-year-old accused, who had earlier forced the girl to consume abortion pills, additional superintendent of police Suryakant Sharma told reporters. He said the accused befriended the girl on Instagram last year and allegedly raped her in a hut on the outskirts of a village in October. The official said that when the girl told the accused about the pregnancy three months later, he allegedly forced her to consume abortion pills. As the pregnancy could not be terminated, he promised to marry the teenager, but later backtracked. The girl, who lives with her father in a village, experienced labour pain on Tuesday night, and he found out about the pregnancy, the ASP said. He said the girl was referred to the government medical college and hospital, where she gave birth on Wednesday. The hospital management informed the police, following which a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused, the official said.
