Report: Goalkeeper on United radar as Newcastle make strategic approach
Ramsdale's Rebuild Under Howe
According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United are actively pursuing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in a bid to reunite him with Eddie Howe, who managed the shot-stopper at Bournemouth. Ramsdale is believed to be keen on a Premier League No.1 role to strengthen his claim for a spot in England's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
This prospective move could have significant consequences at St James' Park. Should Ramsdale arrive, it would cast serious doubt over Nick Pope's future as Newcastle's first-choice goalkeeper.
Man United's Goalkeeping Dilemma
The uncertainty surrounding Pope has reportedly caught the attention of Manchester United. With Ruben Amorim still seeking a reliable alternative or challenger to Andre Onana, Pope's experience and profile are seen as an ideal fit. The 33-year-old, whose contract is set to expire next summer, could become a smart and cost-effective option.

talkSPORT state: 'Nick Pope could emerge as a target for Manchester United if Newcastle sign Aaron Ramsdale.' This domino effect could see one England international replace another at two of the Premier League's top clubs.
Leeds Interest Fades as Perri Signs
Earlier this summer, Leeds United were also credited with an interest in Pope, though they have since turned to Lucas Perri from Lyon to fill their goalkeeping vacancy. This likely leaves Manchester United and possibly other top-flight sides as potential destinations should Pope seek pastures new.
Goalkeeper Carousel Could Define Season Ahead
This transfer chain could see Ramsdale move for more minutes, Pope seek redemption at another top club, and United recalibrate their options after another Onana rocky campaign. It's a rare moment where multiple Premier League clubs could benefit from one bold move — if each piece of the puzzle falls into place.
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
From a Manchester United supporter's perspective, this report presents both opportunity and intrigue. Nick Pope might not be the most glamorous name linked with Old Trafford, but he represents consistency, maturity and Premier League experience — qualities sorely missed during Andre Onana's erratic time England.
While Onana did improve after his disastrous start, there's still a lingering sense among fans that he lacks the authoritative presence that United keepers like van der Sar or De Gea once brought. Pope's possible arrival would not necessarily spell the end for Onana but would provide genuine competition — something many believe is crucial in elite squads.
Also, from a fan's standpoint, the idea of acquiring a current or former England international — especially one with something to prove — aligns with the mentality Ruben Amorim is trying to instil. Pope's professionalism and quiet leadership might be just what the dressing room needs.

🚨 BREAKING: Newcastle 'submit formal bid' to Leipzig for Benjamin Šeško
Newcastle United have submitted a formal offer to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, according to Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie. The bid, worth €75million plus €5m in add-ons (£69.8m in total), meets the Bundesliga club's valuation of the 22-year-old Slovenia international. It is understood Newcastle have also outlined their long-term project to Šeško and made clear their desire to bring him to St James' Park this summer. Šeško is now considering his options, with Manchester United also in the running. The forward is said to be open to both proposals. Šeško scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season and has long been seen as one of Europe's brightest young strikers. He joined the German club from sister side Red Bull Salzburg in 2023. The Magpies are looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign and view Šeško as a marquee addition. 📸 Stuart Franklin - 2025 Getty Images

Benjamin Sesko chooses between Newcastle United and Man United
Benjamin Sesko has chosen his next club, according to a reliable Slovenian newspaper. A two-way battle It has been widely reported that both Newcastle United and Manchester United were going head-to-head to sign the RB Leipzig striker, with the player weighing up the chance to play in the Champions League offered by the Magpies against the dream of playing for one of the world's most renowned clubs in United. Sesko signed a new deal with RB that kept him at the club until 2029, but similar to Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting, 'When he signed that new contract last year, it came with the understanding that if an elite club — by his definition — offered in the region of €80million-€90million (£69m to £78m; $92m to $103m), Leipzig would allow him to leave.' (Source: The Athletic). It is understood that Newcastle have already made it clear to the German club that they will reach that amount, while United are in talks and sending out strong signals that they, too, can make a satisfactory offer. But the question has remained: which club will the Slovenian choose? Inside sources make huge claim Now, according to a credible leading daily newspaper in Sesko's home country, 'it's clear' that Sesko is on the move. 'After a months-long transfer saga, the Slovenian football star has made a decision about where he will continue his sporting career,' the outlet says. But it is bad news for United. 'According to well-informed sources, he will continue his career with Newcastle United.' If the outlet proves to be correct, it leaves INEOS with egg on their faces yet again, having been beaten to Liam Delap by Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres by Arsenal and Hugo Ekitike by Liverpool. Whether United will remain in the market for a striker remains to be seen. They have shown interest in Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins but the Midlands club have shown no interest in selling. United are reluctant to make the kind of mammoth offer that would be necessary to change their minds. Featured image Maja Hitij via Getty Images online polls Get paid to write about United! Teenage duo sign first professional deals with United
The highly-rated pair signed full-time scholarships with United's Academy last summer before agreeing to pro deals once both turning 17 years old. Ferreira, who celebrates his 17th birthday today, is a winger capable of playing on both flanks and recorded an assist on his debut for United's Under-21s side in January during a 2-2 draw against Everton in the Premier League 2. The promising youngster, who joined United's Academy in 2020 after playing for local club Berwick Juniors, recorded eight goals and six assists in the Under-18 Premier League North last season and scored his first goal at under-21 level against Leicester City in February. Ferreira, born to a Brazilian father and Italian mother, told 'Signing this contract is a truly special moment for me and my family. It is a clear sign that all the hard work, sacrifice and determination is beginning to pay off. "Last season was really positive for me, making my under-21s debut and it was a proud moment to get an assist and make an impact on the game which made it even more rewarding. "Moments like that reflect the progress I'm making but I know there is still much more to achieve. I am incredibly grateful to my family and host parents for their constant support and to all the staff who have helped me grow both as a player and a person. "I am also setting new goals and pushing to improve this season and I aim to secure a regular place in the under-21s squad, including starting games. I am focussed, hungry and excited for what lies ahead." Epia, a ball-playing centre-back, joined the Magpies from Everton last summer and made 14 league appearances for United at under-18 level during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring his first Newcastle goal against his former club in March. The aggressive defender, who admires Jarrad Branthwaite and John Stones, admitted he is now reaping the benefits of making a difficult choice in moving from the North west to the North east of England in pursuit of, ultimately, achieving a lifelong ambition. The Manchester-born youngster added: "When I came here last year, I wasn't too sure about moving to Newcastle but as I got used to the culture and environment, I ended up liking it and I love it now. 'It was a big step to sign my first professional contract as it's something I've worked for my whole life, with a lot of support from my family. I'm really pleased to sign it. "I like Newcastle's values and how they admire hard work. It's a big club, a big city and it's a huge step for me. "I want to play regularly for the under-18s and then, hopefully, I can move up to the under-21s group and then make it to the first-team in a few years' time, making my debut for the club." Academy Director Steve Harper said: 'This is a significant step for Matheos and Aaron and one they've both earned through the progress they've made since joining the club. 'They have shown real maturity in how they've approached their development, both on and off the pitch, and they both consistently demonstrate the values we want to see in young professionals. 'We're committed to helping them build on this foundation and continue their development in a positive, competitive environment.'
