PM Modi receives Ghana's highest state honour,
Accepting the award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, Prime Minister dedicated the honour to the aspirations of the youth of India, its cultural traditions and diversity, and to the historical ties between Ghana and India.
PM Modi also thanked the people and government of Ghana for this special gesture.
Noting that the shared democratic values and traditions of the two countries would continue to nurture the partnership, the Prime Minister stated that the award further deepens the friendship between the two countries and places new responsibility on him to embrace and advance bilateral ties. Prime Minister affirmed he was confident that his historic State Visit to Ghana would impart a new momentum to India-Ghana ties, the MEA statement added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India will establish a Skill Development Centre to train youth and support Ghana's 'Feed Ghana' programme as part of a broader plan to strengthen ties between the two countries.
During a joint press briefing with Ghanaian President John Mahama, PM Modi said India would expand cooperation with Ghana in key sectors including agriculture, education, defence, healthcare and digital payments.
'Today, we have decided to double the ITEC and ICCR scholarships for Ghana. Work will be done to establish a Skill Development Centre for vocational education of youth,' PM Modi said.
'In the agricultural sector, we would be happy to cooperate with President Mahama's 'Feed Ghana' programme. Through Jan Aushadhi Kendra, India proposes to provide 'affordable healthcare, reliable care' to the citizens of Ghana. We discussed cooperation in vaccine production,' he added.
The Prime Minister also said that India plans to double trade with Ghana within the next five years and offer its digital payments system, Bharat UPI, to boost financial connectivity.

President Mahama earlier in the day welcomed the Indian Prime Minister and said the visit reflected the long-standing friendship between the countries.
'This visit is a testament to the deep-rooted historical ties between Ghana and India founded on the visionary leadership of Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and India's former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as the ever-growing bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between our two sisterly countries for the mutual benefit of our people,' he said.
This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years. The trip is expected to deepen the India-Ghana partnership and signal New Delhi's continued engagement with Africa and the Global South. (ANI)

'The incident occurred on July 1, when a group of armed assailants carried out a coordinated attack at the factory premises and forcibly took three Indian nationals as hostages,' the MEA said in a statement on Wednesday. The abducted Indians were employed at the factory and were targeted during the assault. Al-Qaeda linked group claims wider attack While no group has officially claimed the abduction, al-Qaeda-linked JNIM has reportedly taken responsibility for a series of attacks across Mali on the same day. These included strikes on military and government facilities in Kayes, Diboli, Sandere, and other towns near the borders with Senegal and Mauritania. Reports from Mali's armed forces confirmed the scale of the coordinated violence across both western and central regions. Mali has been grappling with a violent Islamist insurgency since 2012. What began in the country's north has expanded across its territory and into neighbouring Burkina Faso and Niger. The crisis has worsened under the current military-led government, with the country facing continued threats from armed groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. In addition to jihadist violence, Mali also contends with separatist uprisings and widespread criminal activity. India demands swift rescue India has strongly condemned the kidnapping and urged Mali to act urgently. "The government of India unequivocally condemns this deplorable act of violence and calls upon the government of the Republic of Mali to take all necessary measures to secure the safe and expeditious release of the abducted Indian nationals," the MEA said. Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in Bamako is in "close and constant" contact with Malian officials, local police, and the management of Diamond Cement Factory. The embassy is also coordinating with the families of those kidnapped, the foreign ministry said. "Senior officials of the ministry are closely monitoring the evolving situation and remain engaged at various levels to facilitate safe and early release of Indian nationals," MEA's statement read. The MEA has further urged all Indians in Mali to stay alert and 'exercise utmost caution.' The external affairs ministry said, "Remain vigilant and stay in close contact with the Embassy of India in Bamako for regular updates and necessary assistance."

Intense talks continue to reach interim India-US trade deal ahead of deadline
New Delhi/Washington: As the US reciprocal tariffs deadline looms, hectic parleys are currently underway in Washington, DC, between officials of India and the US on finalising the proposed interim trade deal in the next couple of days. While New Delhi is seeking greater market access for its labour-intensive goods such as garments, footwear, and leather — which are major job creators — Washington wants duty concessions for its agricultural and daily products, according to officials. The Indian trade negotiators have extended their stay in US, signalling a last-minute push to iron out key differences. They have maintained that broader tariff cuts, especially on high-employment goods, are needed to reach the goal of doubling bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030. The focus of the India-US interim trade deal has narrowed down to reciprocal tariff reductions or removals. India's negotiating team, led by Special Secretary Rajesh Agarwal, is engaged in high-level talks in Washington to conclude the bilateral trade agreement. Indian and US negotiators are aiming to finalise an interim trade deal ahead of the July 9 deadline that has been fixed by US President Donald Trump for the 90-day pause on new tariffs that were to be levied on Indian products. Negotiations are expected to continue after that for a bigger trade deal to be signed in September-October. However, as a quid pro quo, India is likely to press for improved access to the US market for seafood products like shrimp and fish, as well as spices, coffee, and rubber- segments where Indian exporters are globally competitive but face tariff competition in the American market, according to earlier reports. India has already started buying more oil and gas from the US to reduce the trade surplus and has offered to increase these purchases. India has proposed significant tariff reductions, potentially lowering average duties from 13 per cent to 4 per cent, in exchange for exemptions from US tariff hikes imposed during the Trump administration.
