Mental Health A&Es: A step forward, but what about prevention?
New mental health A&Es are set to open across England.
It's an encouraging step, but it raises a crucial question: what are we doing to stop the crisis before it starts?
We need mental health first aid, but we also need prevention.
As a specialist in CommPassionate Communication, I believe many early warning signs of distress could be picked up if we knew how to listen.
Here are five ways to build emotional safety at home, school, or work:
1. Make feelings normal.
Saying "I'm sad today" or "I felt really anxious this morning" makes it okay for others to do the same.
2. Don't wait for a meltdown.
Check in often. "How's your energy today?" is a good start. We don't ask because we're fine. We ask because we care.
3. Make space for needs.
Needs like rest, belonging, autonomy, or fun aren't luxuries, they're psychological essentials.
4. Listen to the message behind the mood.
Behaviour is communication. A withdrawn teen may be feeling hopeless. An irritable colleague might be overwhelmed.
5. Respond with presence, not panic.
You don't need to "fix" someone's feelings. You just need to be with them. That's where healing begins.
Empathy doesn't replace services, but it can reduce the need for them.

No official source for the billionaire confirmed that a bee caused the heart attack. Fox News Digital reached out to Sona Comstar for comment. "It's not possible to comment with any specificity about this particular case without a thorough review of the forensics," Dr. Nishant Kalra, an Ohio cardiologist and regional chief medical officer at VitalSolution — an Ingenovis Health company that offers cardiovascular and anesthesiology services to hospitals — told Fox News Digital. The primary risk is not from the act of swallowing itself, but from the possibility of a bee sting to either the upper airway or the oropharynx (the part of the mouth that includes the back of the tongue, tonsils and soft palate), which can introduce venom into the body, according to Kalra. If the individual is allergic, this can trigger anaphylaxis, which may cause "profound hypotension, arrhythmias or even acute coronary syndromes," Kalra said — a phenomenon known as Kounis syndrome. This can pose a risk even to individuals who do not have pre-existing coronary artery disease. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology notes that cardiac anaphylaxis can cause reduced blood flow to the heart (myocardial ischemia) and irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) when triggered by an allergy to insect venom. "The general population should not be concerned about this as a common risk," Kapur told Fox News Digital. "Fatal cardiac events following bee stings are rare and typically occur in individuals with known venom hypersensitivity or underlying cardiac disease." Bleed kit and defibrillator installed in phone box
A new defibrillator and bleed kit have been installed in a disused phone box as part of a community youth project. The emergency kit is located in the newly renovated King George Telephone Box outside of St Paul's Church on Portland Square, Bristol. The telephone box has been cleaned and painted by student volunteers from the City of Bristol College and the King's Trust. Dan Broadbent, event manager at Circomedia who started the project, said: "The defibrillator has actually been used three times already and it's only been there for a month. Before this there wasn't a defibrillator anywhere near here so we thought it was a really important thing to do." We've been here for 20 years and we wanted to do our part to support people." As part of the programme, the young people have to do a community project - and decided to renovate the phone box ready to house the emergency kits. "It was really impactful to get young people engaged," Ms Shafie said. "It was good for them to have that experience and be able to give back. They were really keen and enthusiastic." Ibrahim Yusuf, one of the students who helped paint the phone box, said: "It was fun, the people I was working with, it's something you just enjoy doing. Giving back to the community."
