‘I was going mental!' says Royal Ascot punter after bagging huge win from ‘incredible' £10 bet
The plucky racegoer stuck a tenner on a three-horse bet to earn himself the hefty payday on Friday.

One lucky punter made over £14k from this £10 bet
The customer backed Venetian Sun in the Albany Stakes, Never Let Go in Sandringham Stakes and Adrestia in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes in a £5 each-way treble.
All three horses didn't just place, but actually
WON
their respective races.
The punter, who had backed the trio at 10/1, 16/1 and 6/1, will have been in shock after only deciding to back the horses thanks to the tips in the Ladbrokes shop he went into.
He told Ladbrokes: "I just went with the tips in the Ladbrokes shop!

"I couldn't believe it when I was on for the win going into the final race.
"I was watching the Holyroodhouse and thought if Adrestia gets out, she's not getting caught. I was going mental!'
While Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said: 'After punters left us with our tail between our legs the previous day, this customer landed one of the bets of Royal Ascot on a day when upsets might have otherwise left us smiling. Congratulations on an incredible win.
'They'll never let go of this memory – and might already be planning a fitting trip to Venice with their winnings!'

NOVAK DJOKOVIC notched his Wimbledon century to reach the fourth round. The seven-time champion, 38, breezed past compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic and became just the third player in Wimbledon history to register 100 SW19 victories. 5 Novak Djokovic celebrates winning his 100th Wimbledon match Credit: PA 5 Djokovic, 38, put on a Centre Court clinic against his compatriot Credit: AFP Djokovic now joins Winning an eighth title would take Djokovic to 104 wins, one short of Federer. His old rival is also the only man to have reached the last 16 (18 times) more often than Djokovic, who is into the second week for a 17th time. After a testy first set against former Davis Cup team-mate Kecmanovic, the Serb veteran rattled through the gears to win 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. READ MORE WIMBLEDON The two Serbian stars stuck to serve in an opening set which took a while to burst into life. A couple of late games sparked the fire, with both looking to batter the baseline through some stunning rallies, while also getting cute near the net. Having battled brilliantly against his idol throughout that first set, Kecmanovic was steam-rolled in the second as Djokovic put on one of the performances of the Championships. All Blacks survive major scare against France side containing eight debutants
NEW ZEALAND STRUGGLED past an under-strength France 31-27 in Dunedin on Saturday to record a 500th Test win for the All Blacks in unconvincing fashion. Will Jordan scored two tries to secure a tense victory as the All Blacks held off an energetic France side fielding eight debutants to take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series. New Zealand wing Sevu Reece lasted less than a minute as poor technique in a tackle saw him dazed and helped from the field with a head injury. It forced an immediate reshuffle, with Jordan moving from fullback to the right wing, and Damian McKenzie coming off the bench. It clearly rattled the All Blacks. The young French side took the lead from a penalty goal in the seventh minute and extended it to 10 points soon after when No.8 Mickael Guillard crossed next to the posts. New Zealand centre Jordie Barrett thought he had scored moments earlier, after Cam Roigard split the line and fed him for an easy try, only for it to be pulled back for a knock-on in the build-up. Advertisement But the home side's response was swift. Jordan scored his first of the night on the end of a pinpoint Beauden Barrett cut-out pass. Tupou Vai'i gave New Zealand the lead for the first time moments later, crashing under the posts as the attack started to click on the back of fierce defensive work. Jordie Barrett did score a try just before half-time, diving like a slip fielder to catch a Jordan pass on the right wing, before finding his feet and plopping over. But France would not lie down and hit back almost immediately from the second-half kickoff. Rieko Ioane, playing on the wing for the first time in four years, bobbled the restart, allowing France good territory and Gabin Villiere scored to cut the deficit to a single point at 21-20. Jordan scored his second of the match — his 40th Test try — to restore an eight-point advantage but again France wouldn't give in. Replacement Jacobus Van Tonder broke the All Blacks line and fell just short of the posts, allowing Cameron Woki to cross off the back. France were reduced to 14 after try-scorer Villiere was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-down, but New Zealand couldn't capitalise. Billy Proctor and Jordan had tries disallowed for a knock-on and obstruction respectively, as the television match official drew loud boos from the capacity crowd. A Beauden Barrett penalty extended the lead to 31-27 with six minutes remaining but France immediately gained territory as they searched for the winning try with the clock ticking down. A knock-on with 90 seconds remaining allowed the All Blacks to regain possession and hang on for a hard-fought victory. – © AFP 2025

Hong Kong qualify for Rugby World Cup for first time
HONG KONG QUALIFIED for the Rugby World Cup for the first time in their history on Saturday as they romped past South Korea 70-22 in Incheon to become Asia champions. The victory gave Hong Kong a sixth consecutive Asia Rugby Championship and with it a place in the expanded 24-team tournament to be hosted by Australia in 2027. Hong Kong, globally famous for its annual Sevens tournament, will now rub shoulders in the 15-a-side showpiece with the likes of world champions South Africa and New Zealand's All Blacks. 'It's pretty overwhelming to be honest,' said No.8 Josh Hrstich, the Hong Kong captain. 'Just super, super proud of our playing group, our management, coaching staff and people behind the scenes. There's a lot that goes into making a team successful. 'Thanks to everyone who has supported us and we're going to need them for the upcoming years because it's going to get pretty special.' Advertisement With Asian powerhouses Japan one of 12 teams who had already qualified by virtue of finishing in the top three of their pool in the 2023 World Cup, a berth was up for grabs for the continental champions. Hong Kong not only earned regional honours but also made history as only the second Asian team, after Japan, to qualify for a men's Rugby World Cup. Hong Kong finished comfortably on top of the four-team table after wins against the UAE (43-10), Sri Lanka (78-7) and South Korea in the past month. The United Arab Emirates finished second in the table and remain in contention for qualification. They will face the runners-up of this month's Rugby Africa Cup in a play-off on July 26. The winner of that encounter will progress to a final qualification tournament in Dubai in November. – © AFP 2025
