‘Very promising and intelligent': a friend remembers Karnataka tech CEO Harshavardhana Kikkeri
Harshavardhana S Kikkeri, 57, who was the CEO of HoloWorld, a robotics company headquartered in Mysuru town, reportedly shot Shwetha Panyam, 44, his wife and co-founder of HoloWorld, and their 14-year-old son. While the incident took place on April 24 in Newcastle, Washington, the police in the US town are yet to reveal the motive behind his actions.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Bhaskar Kalale, Chairman, EqualizeRCM said Kikkeri was a very active tech-savvy friend. 'The last time I met him was in Mysuru about a year ago. He was very promising, intelligent, and had accomplished a lot of things. In fact, cricketer Yuvraj Singh had funded his organisation and also was the brand ambassador,' added Kalale, who is also the president of the Mysuru chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).
'Many from the business fraternity in Mysuru thought that he was juggling between the US and Mysuru and never knew he had shifted his family,' Kalale said.
Kalale said Kikkeri, also a TEDx speaker, used to deliver several talks in Mysuru about technology and innovation.
While none of Kikkeri's family members lived in Mysuru, HoloWorld was headquartered in the town's Vijayanagar Third Stage area. He also ran a training centre for robotics in Mysuru.
Speaking to the media, the owner of the building where Kikkeri had his office said he started it in 2018, but it was shut down after 2022. The training centre for robotics was also shut, but the HoloWorld operated from Mysuru and the US. 'He was a very reserved person who spoke less but was very humble,' the building owner added.
Meanwhile, Brandyn Hull, spokesperson of the sheriff in King County, Washington, told the media they are investigating whether the deaths were a murder-suicide. 'An investigation such as this takes time, and our detectives are working diligently to try and piece together what led to this incident,' Hull said in a statement.
American newspaper The Seattle Times reported the police attended a 911 call around 7 pm on April 24, and they found three people dead, and a toddler alive. According to the report, the detectives found blood on the front window, and a lone hollow point bullet in the street.
Kikkeri, who belonged to the Kikkeri village in Mandya, graduated from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering in Mysuru, and worked with Microsoft in the US, focusing on robotics. He also had a Master of Science degree from Syracuse University, US. Kikkeri held 44 international patents, and worked in Infosys as a software engineer before moving to the US.
In 2017, he and his wife, Shwetha, returned to India and co-founded HoloWorld. The company gained recognition in 2018 with the launch of HoloSuit, a wireless full-body motion capture suit used in sports, education, healthcare, and other fields. The company's products were exported to countries, including the US, the UK, and Israel.

For the second time in two months, a Ghaziabad man was arrested on Friday for allegedly abducting his 25-year-old wife — despite the woman maintaining that they got married under the Special Marriage Act and she had left her parents' home of her own free will. The police, later in the day, sent the woman to her parents' home. Akbar Khan (29) and Sonika Chauhan (25) maintained they had been married for three years but were reduced to their only identity – their faith. On July 30, Sonika's father, Laxman Singh Chauhan, had filed a complaint at the Indirapuram police station, alleging that she had been kidnapped by her husband, Akbar, and in-laws. Minutes later, a purported video had surfaced in which Sonika claimed that she had left her home on July 30 to be with Akbar. 'I, Sonika, on July 30, around 2 pm, left my house as per my wish… For the last two months, my parents and some other people, including Meena Bhandari, Harish Karakoti, Kapil Tyagi, my maternal uncle Vikram Rawat and my paternal uncle Jagdish Singh Chauhan, had been torturing me physically and mentally… they wanted me to give a statement against Akbar in court and frame him under the POCSO (Act) and put him behind bars. But I protested… I will only tell the truth,' she is heard saying in the video. This was not the first time that Sonika's family had accused Akbar of abducting her. On May 25, too, Laxman had filed a similar complaint at the same police station — accusing Akbar of kidnapping Sonika a day earlier. Back then, Sonika had clarified that she had left home on her own. The Ghaziabad Police had then raided Akbar's home in Indirapuram and 'handed over' Sonika to her parents. Following this, the police had arrested Akbar, his two sisters, sister-in-law, and a neighbour. A group of around 60 men had also attacked Akbar's shop and vandalised it. A purported video had surfaced before Akbar's arrest in May, in which Sonika could be heard saying that she wanted to stay with him and that they had secretly gotten married at a Delhi SDM office under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, in August 2022. Akbar was released on bail on June 8. On Friday, Ghaziabad Commissioner of Police, J Ravinder Goud, said Akbar was arrested in the fresh case of abduction. 'The woman was sent to stay with her family after we took an undertaking from her parents,' he told The Indian Express. Asked why she was sent to stay with her family when she had maintained that she was mentally tortured at their home, Goud said he would check if she wished to stay at a One Stop Centre, set up to support women affected by violence. 'Her safety is our priority, and we will record her statement on Saturday before the magistrate,' he added. Laxman, in his latest complaint, had alleged that Sonika was abducted in the middle of the night by Akbar and his accomplices. McDonald's to invest $100 M in new global office in Hyderabad in next 2 years
1 2 Hyderabad: American quick service restaurant (QSR) giant McDonald's has rustled up plans to invest $100 million (approx. Rs 875 crore) in its new global office in Hyderabad over the next couple of years and hire around 2,000 techies by 2027, a top official of the company said on Friday. Trump removes official overseeing jobs data after dismal employment report
President Donald Trump on Friday (August 1, 2025) removed the head of the agency that produces the monthly jobs figures after a report showed hiring slowed in July and was much weaker in May and June than previously reported.
