Auburn Spring Football Preview: Offensive Line
Spring practice is underway at Auburn, and it's time to preview another position group ahead of A-Day, which will take place on Saturday, April 12 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The next position group that we will examine in our spring breakdown series is the offensive line, which will feature many fresh faces. The Tigers return a few familiar names from the 2024 team, and will welcome two new players from the transfer portal. Tackle Percy Lewis left the team after the season and is now an Ole Miss Rebel. The unit allowed 27 sacks last season, with quarterback Payton Thorne being sacked 26 times. The group did well in the rushing attack opening running lanes for Jarquez Hunter and made it possible for him to gain 1,201 yards. They will welcome tackles Xavier Chaplin (Virginia Tech) and Mason Murphy (USC).
Here is a look at what the Auburn offensive line looks like as spring practice continues on the Plains.
Center
No. 71 Dylan Senda
Dylan Senda should be the backup center for this Auburn team coming up this fall. He will get plenty of reps during the spring though with Connor Lew being out due to injury. Senda was only in for 13 snaps last season.
No. 75 Connor Lew
Hugh Freeze mentioned during his opening press conference to begin spring practice that Connor Lew was out. He should be the expected starter at center for the Tigers. He played in 748 snaps last year and PFF gives him a grade of 75.7. That ranks fifth from the 2024 Auburn Tigers.
Tackle
No. 65 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin comes to Auburn by way of the transfer portal after two seasons with the Virginia Tech Hokies. Chaplin played in 587 snaps last season for the Hokies and only gave up two sacks on the season. PFF gives him a grade of 69.8, and he graded better as a pass protector at 72.7.
No. 72 Izavion Miller
Izavion Miller is a returning player for the Tigers on the right side. He has been a starter for the Tigers for the last two seasons after arriving from junior college. He won SEC Lineman of the Week last year in the 24-10 win over Kentucky where Hunter rushed for 278 yards and two touchdowns.
No. 76 Mason Murphy
Mason Murphy played the last three seasons at USC and spent most of 2024 at right tackle with 771 snaps played. He did play 45 snaps at left tackle. He allowed three sacks last season and 11 hits on the quarterback.
No. 79 Tyler Johnson
Tyler Johnson is a left tackle that started as a freshman last season against Alabama A&M and appeared in every game. He played 92 snaps last season and should give the Tigers some valuable depth at tackle. Other tackles on the roster:
No. 53 John Henry Flatt
No. 56 Seth Wilfred
No. 67 Broderick Shull
No. 70 Favour Ebuka Edwin
Guard
No. 52 Dillon Wade
Dillon Wade has started the last two seasons for the Tigers and moved from tackle to left guard last season. He also played 16 games in two seasons at Tulsa before transferring to Auburn in 2023. He is one of the most experienced players on the offensive line and the locker room. According to PFF he grades better as a run blocker.
No. 55 Bradyn Joiner
Bradyn Joiner was selected to the All-SEC Freshman team, and became a starter beginning with the Kentucky game. He played 470 snaps at left tackle and allowed three sacks.
No. 77 Jeremiah Wright
Jeremiah Wright was a started at right guard in 2024, and was a team captain. He is a senior that brings a lot of experience to the offensive line. PFF grades Wright with 73.4 as a pass blocker.
No. 78 DeAndre Carter
DeAndre Carter played as a true freshman in 2024. Played just 40 snaps last season and needs to improve on his run blocking skills. Other guards:

Tarik Skubal's dominant stretch earns AL player of the week award

Tarik Skubal's dominant stretch earns AL player of the week award originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tarik Skubal certainly didn't need another trophy to validate what he's doing this season. But when you dominate like he has, the league has no choice but to recognize it. Advertisement Skubal was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday after a pair of lights-out performances that continued his push for a second straight Cy Young. The Tigers' ace went 2-0, struck out 21 batters in 13 innings, and gave a national audience a taste of just how dominant he's been. On Sunday Night Baseball, in Detroit's first nationally televised home game since 2017, Skubal shoved. He held the Twins to just one hit over seven shutout innings, walked one, and punched out 13—his career high. The lefty was surgical, electric, everything you'd want from a frontline ace. And he did it with the poise of someone who's been in complete control all season. Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal celebrates after an inning-ending double play against the Cleveland Guardians during Game 2 of the ALDS at Progressive Field on Oct. 7, Richard-Imagn Images With that win, Skubal improved to 10-2 on the year and now leads the AL in strikeouts (138) and ERA (2.15). He's giving Detroit a legitimate ace every five days—and giving opposing hitters a nightmare to circle on the calendar. Advertisement The Tigers are tied for the best record in baseball heading into July, and Skubal is a massive reason why. There's a quiet confidence when he takes the mound now. Not the kind that needs headlines. The kind that wins games. This isn't a fluke or a hot stretch. This is who Tarik Skubal is—and who he's becoming. The American League took notice this week. The rest of the baseball world might want to follow suit. Tigers could land college slugger in ESPN's latest mock draft

Tigers could land college slugger in ESPN's latest mock draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tigers might be sitting in a good spot come Draft night. ESPN's latest mock draft suggests they could use it to add a high-impact college bat. Advertisement In ESPN's three-person mock draft released this week, analyst David Schoenfield projects the Tigers to select Indiana outfielder Devin Taylor with the No. 24 overall pick. Taylor, a lefty slugger who tore up the Big Ten, slashed an eye-popping .374/.494/.706 with 18 home runs and more walks (52) than strikeouts (30) this spring. Tigers fans may not have seen much of Taylor, but the numbers and the scouting notes are impressive. He's a corner outfielder, so don't expect elite range, but he's got legit bat speed and strength. Taylor also performed well in the Cape Cod League, the wood bat summer league, which carries weight with evaluators. He's proven himself against good pitching. Detroit Tigers Mascot Paws waves the team flag at Comerica Park.© Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images Schoenfield notes the Tigers have depth in the organization and could go in a number of directions with this pick, including pitching or high-upside prep talent. His projection of Taylor is based more on value than need, which aligns with how Detroit has approached recent drafts under president of baseball operations Scott Harris. Advertisement That said, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel teased that he and fellow mock participant Jeff Passan might go a different route — leaning toward prep talent with more upside. In that sense, this mock might not reflect how the Tigers are truly leaning, but it gives fans a name worth knowing. If the bat plays in the pros like it did in Bloomington, Devin Taylor could end up as another middle-of-the-order threat in a system already stacked with power. When is top LSU football target Lamar Brown going to reveal his commitment?

The time for top-LSU 2026 target Lamar Brown's commitment announcement is counting down. Louisiana's top prospect will announce his choice between four schools on July 10. Brown narrowed the decision down to LSU, Texas A&M, Florida State, and Miami in early March. Brown logged the last official visit of his recruiting cycle on June 20 when he took a trip to Baton Rouge. The Erwinville native is the No. 5 prospect in the country, per 247 Sports' Composite Rankings. The system also lists him as the top defensive lineman in class, but he is considered an athlete by On3 due to his talent on both sides of the ball. Recruiting outlets are split between the Tigers and the Aggies on where Brown will play college football. The decision looms large for head coach Brian Kelly as his staff built the 2026 class on keeping the best homegrown talent in the state. Letting Brown slip to an SEC rival would hurt. Brown would be the third five-star prospect in LSU's 2026 class if he chooses the Tigers, joining wide receiver Tristen Keys and defensive lineman Richard Anderson. He would also be the eighth Louisiana native in LSU's group, which ranks sixth nationally and third in the conference.
