Grenade-like object found in downtown Toronto park prompts road closures
Toronto police are investigating after they say reports of a possible grenade was spotted in a public park Saturday morning.
In a post to social media, officials say officers responded at around 8:45 a.m. to Harold Town Park, near Church and Yonge Streets.
Police say the Explosive Disposal Unit was called in to investigate and as a precaution, Church Street has been shut down in both directions between Park Road and Yonge Street.
There is no word yet on whether the object was confirmed to be dangerous but an investigation is ongoing.

Montreal police say a 23-year-old man stabbed two people in the Sud-Ouest borough on Monday morning. Surrey police searching for 2 missing Indigenous girls
Surrey police are asking for the public's help in finding two missing 12-year-old Indigenous girls. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says Aliyah Babisky and Anastasia Louis were last seen at around 11:30 p.m. PT on Sunday in the 14500 block of 106 Avenue in Surrey, and have not been seen or heard from since. Police say both of the girls live in Surrey, one of them at a home in the area where they were last seen. Babisky is described as an Indigenous girl with black hair just past her shoulders and brown eyes. She's about five feet five inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds. Louis is described as an Indigenous girl with long black hair and brown eyes. Police say she's about five feet nine inches tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds. Police say they don't know what the girls were wearing or where they may have gone — and that their families are concerned for their safety.

Windsor mental health and addictions counsellor charged with sexual assault
The Windsor Police Service says it has charged a local mental health and addictions counsellor in connection with the sexual assaults of two patients. The alleged incidents occurred while 66-year-old Tim Baxter was providing counselling services to individuals seeking support for addiction and anger management issues in the Windsor-Essex area, according to a news release issued Monday by the Windsor Police Service. The offences are reported to have taken place between 2024 and 2025, police said. Baxter has been charged with four counts of sexual assault. Investigators say they believe there may be "additional victims who have not yet come forward." They are urging anyone who believes they may have been sexually assaulted or victimized to contact the major crimes unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830. They say all reports will be treated with the highest level of sensitivity and confidentiality. Sexual assault is defined as any non-consensual touching of a sexual nature that violates the sexual integrity of an individual, Windsor police note. This can include a broad range of behaviours, from unwanted sexual contact to assault involving penetration.
