Aug. 1 (UPI) -- All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, he announced Friday on social media. Parsons is set to make $24 million in 2025.
The star linebacker posted a lengthy note about the request on his X account just hours after reports surfaced about a potential split between the star pass rusher and NFC East franchise.
"Yes, I wanted to be here," Parsons wrote. "I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America's team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, Pa.
"Unfortunately, i no longer want to be here."
Parsons, 26, joined the Cowboys as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and quickly turned himself into one of the best defensive players in the league.
He earned Pro Bowl selections in each of his first four seasons. He also was named the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year and was a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022.
The star outside linebacker, who totaled 52.5 sacks through the first 63 appearances of his NFL career, said Friday that he attempted to re-sign with the Cowboys over the last several off-seasons, but a deal never materialized.
He said he met with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in March and engaged in a "back and forth" about an extension. Parsons did not believe that was a formal negotiation and said he informed Jones that his agent would reach out.
Parsons claimed that the Cowboys then told his agent that a deal was "pretty much already done." He said his agent told the team that wasn't the case and the Cowboys "decided to go silent" in regard to future negotiations.
"Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else," Parsons wrote. "Still, I stayed quiet, but again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narrative, I have made a tough decision.
"I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to [chief operating officer and co-owner] Stephen Jones personally."

NFL Fans Assign Blame For Micah Parsons Trade Request

NFL Fans Assign Blame For Micah Parsons Trade Request originally appeared on The Spun. Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys are heading for an ugly breakup. On Friday morning, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that Parsons' relationship with the Cowboys has deteriorated to the point where a trade request isn't out of the question. Fast forward a few hours later, and the All-Pro pass rusher announced that he wants out of Dallas. "Yes I wanted to be here," Parsons wrote. "I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America's team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me." Parsons then provided some insight on his negotiations with the Cowboys. "Up until today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract. Not one demand has been made by my agent about money years or anything else. Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally." Unsurprisingly, the NFL world had a lot to say about the latest twist in this saga between Parsons and the Cowboys. Most fans are blaming Jerry Jones for this trade request. "Jerry Jones really messed around and pushed Micah Parsons out of Dallas — Their undisputed best player!!! Can't make this up," one fan said. "No Cowboys fan should be upset with Micah on this decision. We don't blame him one bit. Dallas will lack severe credibility as an organization until Jerry Jones no longer has control or power," a second fan wrote. "Does Jerry Jones put his ego aside and give Micah the money now ??! Probably not smh," another fan commented. "Micah should bail. If he ever wants a shot at a SB ring. Has to get away from Jerry and Dak. Maybe take less money and latch on to a more balanced and talented team. Greed kills professional sports teams," a social media user wrote. "Micah's deal should've been done last offseason. High chance Jerry pays up but if I was him I'd hold out and force a trade elsewhere," an NFL fan said. Parsons has racked up 52.5 sacks since joining the Cowboys in 2021. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it could take at least two first-round picks and a few mid-round selections to land Parsons. That's if the Cowboys are willing to deal him. Texans QB C.J. Stroud believes offensive line 'takes time' to build rapport

Nearly two weeks into training camp, the Houston Texans' offensive line has been basically an eye-sore. No, strike that. It's 100% been the souring feel around the roster after the defense finished a third straight practice where C.J. Stroud was feeling the pressure against a front seven that constantly tried to put the Pro Bowl quarterback on his rear end. Still, as the team leaves for The Greenbrier for a week, Stroud isn't worried. He understands that sometimes the bad has to be beaten out of players before the good can finally appear. 'It takes time,' Stroud said Saturday of the offensive personnel. 'It's not something that just happens overnight. I feel like we're getting better every day." The five-man front will look different from a season ago. That might be a blessing since Houston's expensive front line gave up 54 sacks, the second-most in the NFL last season, though it also will feature a new left tackle following the trade of Laremy Tunsil. Cam Robinson comes in at left tackle on a one-year deal and is expected to start. On the right side, second-round pick Tay Ersery has been the most consistent player as the opposing book end. Tytus Howard, who saw action at both right tackle and right guard, has shifted inside full-time while Laken Tomlinson is expected to start on the left side. All the changes have led to some confusion when it comes to protection calls, which has put Stroud under duress against the front seven. That's one way to look at the mishaps, but Stroud, trying to find a positive, mentioned that the unit could be going up against the league's best pass rush daily in practice, meaning they'll only improve against weaker competition. "That's the best defensive line in football right now, with just how they get off the ball, to edge guys Will [Anderson Jr.] and Danielle [Hunter] are crazy athletes," Stroud said. "They rush together, they rush as a unit. I think it's just making us nothing but better. I think you don't want to continue to just say the defense is good. You want to start seeing progress and seeing plays being made. I think we've seen that these last couple of days. So, it's helpful for me to start going through reads and be able to go through my full progression when the offensive line is picking everything up." The Texans' offensive line will look to respond in West Virginia at The Greenbrier before taking on the Minnesota Vikings at US Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dismisses Micah Parsons' trade request as negotiation talk

OXNARD, Calif. — Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones does not intend to trade Micah Parsons after the star defensive end said he wants to leave the team amid a breakdown in negotiating a contract extension. 'Surely you guys have been around this stuff and know how to recognize negotiation talk, that type of thing. And so that's where I put that,' Jones said after practice Saturday, one day after Parsons posted on social media to request a trade .
