Benjamin Sesko's agent's clear message to Man Utd as enormous transfer offer made
Benjamin Sesko's agent, Elvis Basanovic, claims the 22-year-old wants a "special project with a special coach" as he targets a potential move to the Premier League. This news comes as Newcastle United table a huge £65.5million bid for the RB Leipzig striker, amidst the ongoing Alexander Isak transfer drama.
Manchester United are also in the race to sign the towering centre-forward, with Ruben Amorim keen to get a No.9 in the door to front his attacking line. United are progressing with a deal to sign the Slovenian international after picking him as their preferred target over Ollie Watkins, but Newcastle could put a stop to this with their bid.
Sesko has not commented on the prospect of a switch to the Premier League previously, meaning he has not given any clues or indications. Given this, it could all come down to who can provide the striker with the most attractive overall package, and that doesn't simply mean financially.
Basanovic discussed the possibility of Sesko making a move to England earlier this summer, stating that the striker will be looking for a range of things before deciding where to play. The agent, who met former United football director John Murtough back in 2022 to talk about a potential move to Old Trafford, said: "It's not correct to speak about the names of clubs that are interested in Sesko, but maybe it is right to clarify a few things.
"Let me tell you: Sesko is not competing with anyone. It's him vs him every day. We have a clear plan for the future and media speculation doesn't affect us. His numbers at his age are comparable to some strikers with already great careers.
"That confirms my words. He will move from RB Leipzig only when we recognise a special club. A special project with a special coach."
United are currently working on 'Project 150', an ambitious scheme launched last year with the target of clinching the Premier League crown again by 2028 for their 150th anniversary.
Speaking about the initiative in June, United chief executive Omar Berrada said: "It's establishing a series of targets within a timeframe so we can focus our efforts and energy on that goal. Can the team win the Premier League title by 2028? Of course.
"We've just finished 15th and it seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?"
However, Eddie Howe is keen to make an impression on Sesko it seems, as Newcastle's project focuses on making the club a permanent fixture in the top five of the league table.
It remains to be seen where Sesko will decide to go - if he moves at all - but the transfer battle is looking likely to heat up between the north east and north west giants of the Premier League.

Son of ex-Premier League and Northern Ireland goalkeeper out to follow father's lead after starring at SuperCup NI
Despite being only 14-years-old, he knew that keeping a clean sheet would have been significant given both the opposition and his family history. Had Phoenix Blayney managed to keep out the late strike from Archie Lovatt, it would have seen County Antrim inflict the only defeat of the 2025 SuperCup NI on Southampton – who went on to beat a Manchester United side with the son of a famous father of their own in their ranks – to win the Premier title. Even with Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick in their team, whose fathers Wayne and Michael were serial winners at United, the Red Devils fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Final. 'It was very frustrating not to get a clean sheet,' said Blayney. 'We thought there was a handball in the build-up. 'I still think we did well because no one else in the competition was able to beat them or even get a draw. 'It would have been brilliant to have got that clean sheet against Southampton, especially because my dad used to play there. It would have been fantastic for me.' 'Dad' to Phoenix is Alan, a three-time double winner in his time with Linfield. Although he only played three Premier League games during a five-year stay at Southampton, his debut in May 2004 was arguably the most significant game of his career. A stop from an Alan Shearer header in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle United won him the Sky Sports Save of the Season award. The fourth of Alan's five Northern Ireland caps was hugely significant, too. While the 1-1 draw with Morocco in November 2010 isn't one that will particularly stick in the mind of the Green and White Army, the day itself does for the Blayney family; it was the day Phoenix was born. Alan had been called up for the match, left the team hotel to be at the birth and ended a whirlwind day by coming on as a half-time substitute for Jonny Tuffey. Given that he came into the world on that particular day, it was probably inevitable that Phoenix would want to follow in his father's footsteps and be a goalkeeper. 'Ever since I was young, I always had his gloves on in the garden messing about,' said Phoenix, who played in the Junior section for County Antrim in 2024 and is still young enough to return to the Premier competition in 2026. 'I always just loved getting dirty and always loved playing. 'I just love getting hurt, getting the ball in the face and getting dirty. Just loved it from the start.' The young Blayney is already catching the eye of Premier League clubs. Standing at almost 6ft at just 14-years-old, he's hard to miss, but having a father who made it to the top means he knows that it takes more than being tall to hit the heights. 'He just plays his own game. He's calm and he just takes everything in his stride. I don't think he feels pressure,' said Alan. 'I just tell him to work hard, have a good attitude and try to enjoy every game. That's really all the advice I give him and then let him do his own thing and then let the football do the talking. 'It would have been good if he'd managed to keep a clean sheet, but I think he had a decent game and, all in all, it was a decent night for them.' From his start messing about in the garden, things are getting serious for Phoenix, and the benefit of Alan's coaching – both are with Larne – as well as his father's advice means he is well-placed for the future. 'My dad is a massive inspiration. I just always wanted to do what he did,' said Phoenix. 'I'm really keen to do it. I would really, really love to sign across the water and keep football going.'

Man Utd transfer suddenly collapsed after negotiations descended into farce
A bizarre sequence of events saw Manchester United miss out on one sought-after transfer target after 'impostors' attempted to hijack the deal with farcical demands The Ander Herrera transfer saga of 2013 was a unique situation that saw Manchester United miss their target for the strangest of reasons. The Red Devils were known to be in pursuit of the former Spain midfielder when three agents sought to hijack the transfer. David Moyes, who was United manager at the time, said the deal collapsed due to Athletic Bilbao 's extortionate demands over the fee. However, fans could hardly believe their eyes when reports emerged suggesting the move was actually off because 'impostors' claiming to act on United's behalf had arrived at Athletic's offices offering to pay his buyout clause on deadline day. The details were like something out of a Hollywood script rather than transfer negotiations. So many will have been even more shocked to hear Herrera himself confirm that truly was the reason his move to Old Trafford never materialised 12 years ago. "I didn't even know them," the 35-year-old said on the UTD Podcast in 2022. "I know my lawyers and I know my agent. It is the same agent as when I was 18. They [hoaxers] were trying to make easy money – I don't know how. "I think they wanted to be there if the negotiation was successful, they wanted everyone to think that they were the ones who did it and, maybe after that, they can have more players or more negotiations. "But I didn't even know them, honestly. It was funny because some of my friends say, 'Your lawyers are in La Liga and they are going to pay the money,' and I said, 'No, they are not my lawyers. I do not know them.'" La Liga sources appeared eager to downplay the 'impostor' aspect of the storyline at the time, insisting the three lawyers, Rodrigo Garcia Lucas, Alvaro Reig Gurrea and Guillermo Gutierrez, were indeed working for United. Moyes added more intrigue when the Scot admitted that the collapse was due to the club feeling "the buyout was the wrong valuation." After missing out on Herrera, United instead rushed through a £27.5m deadline-day deal for Marouane Fellaini from Everton. The Herrera debacle went down as one of the more obscure transfer failures witnessed in modern times as United endured a slow summer of business under Moyes. There was a sentiment United were under-prepared in navigating the complexities of Spanish football's transfer system at such a late juncture in the window. Lucas, Gurrea and Gutierrez were the same three lawyers responsible for orchestrating Javi Martinez's blockbuster move to Bayern Munich in 2012. However, while that deal had been drawn up over the course of a month, they were attempting to execute Herrera's 2013 transfer in a matter of days (at most). Herrera, now playing for Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, moved to Manchester the following year after Louis van Gaal replaced Moyes at the helm. And United facilitated the move by transferring funds so the midfielder could trigger his own buyout clause. The Basque icon made 189 appearances for United, the same number of outings he managed for Athletic across two separate stints. He won the Europa League, an FA Cup and one League Cup during his time in England before joining Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019.
