From horror lovers to rom-com and anime enthusiasts, India's filmgoers have diverse tastes and PVR Inox Ltd wants to be the go-to destination for global cinema across formats and genres, says Aamer Bijli , the company's lead strategist for marketing and innovation. The company is making a major strategic push in bringing international cinema to Indian audiences, starting with the premiere of the upcoming action thriller "Ballerina", headlined by Hollywood star Ana de Armas. In the next one year, PVR Inox will be distributing some of the major Hollywood titles, both big-budget and indie, from top studios like Lionsgate, A24, Neon, Black Bear and FilmNation."What we see as the future is to ensure that the growing appetite in India is quenched. Essentially every appetite has a particular genre, and we want to be at the forefront of bringing that genre to the Indian market. And this is a combination of international films as well as local films."Our business fires on three engines, which are Hollywood films , the Hindi local segment and live events. So we want to really become a prolific player in all three categories," Aamer, son of PVR Inox managing director Ajay Bijli, told PTI in an interview. At a premiere event for "Ballerina", held at PVR Juhu in Mumbai, the company gave a glimpse into the next four titles that it will be distributing in India -- "Smashing Machine", starring Dwayne Johnson; "Now You See Me: Now You Don't", the third part in Lionsgate heist franchise; Aziz Ansari-directed comedy "Good Fortune", featuring Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen; and anime film "Shinchan: Kasukabe Dancers".Besides, PVR Inox has a robust slate for the year 2025-26, spanning genres like horror, musicals, drama, romance, and action. It includes five films from critically-acclaimed studio A24. The movies are -- "The Riders" with Brad Pitt; "The Drama" with Robert Pattinson and Zendaya; "Marty Supreme" with Timothee Chalamet; "Onslaught" with Adria Arjona and Dan Stevens; and "Sorry Baby" from actor-director Eva Victor. From Lionsgate, it will be bringing out "The Strangers: Chapter 2" and "SAW 11". It will also distribute Neon's "The Housewife", starring Naomi Watts, in the country. For Black Bear Pictures, PVR Inox will distribute filmmaker Guy Ritchie's "The Wife undefined "Afterburn", starring Samuel L Jackson; "Fred undefined Zac Efron's "Famous"; and "I Want Your Sex", starring Olivia Wilde."We've always tried to maintain a very fruitful and amicable relationship with these studios. It's always been a to-and-fro to understand what films they're producing, what films the international audience is liking, and what films resonate with India."We have exponentially grown in terms of size because now independent cinema is also really demanding big budgets. A lot of big actors are being associated with independent films and it's really going to grow," Aamer said.Asked about the content acquisition strategy of PVR Inox, he said genre plays a pivotal role."There are certain genres that cut across the language barrier more than others. And the major genre that does this is action films. Some films that even we don't dub tend to see its day in the sun."But action firms are notorious for their dubbable ability. You can dub it into all the languages and that's something we specialise, in regional and Hindi language to dub these films in. So that's a big part of the strategy."Another aspect of the strategy is to identify studios as well as independent banners that are credible to partner, Aamer added."We have a very long standing relationship with Lionsgate. We have an output deal with them, and we represent the India office. They have very big budget films such as the 'John Wick' universe, which they want to bring and which suits India," he said. The final piece in the puzzle is the star cast attached to a project, Aamer stressed."There are certain actors and actresses that people resonate with more than others. Sometimes the story, the prowess, the writing, is enough to carry a film forward, but sometimes it needs the extra power, which is the star cast. And it makes these potential content acquisitions possible and gives relevance for the Indian market," he said.Going forward, Aamer is optimistic about India's rising stature as a key market for international films, especially when it comes to hosting premieres and other promotional events of major Hollywood titles."It would really boost the momentum for the film. Films like 'Avatar: The Way of Water', which released two years ago, and 'Oppenheimer', they all did so well that they were comparable with global box office numbers as well."Even in the independent film space. Like 'John Wick' for example. 'John Wick 4' did exceedingly well for us. I think it clocked about USD 4.5 million, which is a very respectable number compared to the grand scheme."India can truly emerge as a global cinema destination if more international films receive commercial success in the country, he added."I don't see why studios won't start looking at India as a destination to host premiers, festivals, and all these marque events. I think it is just a matter of time," Aamer said.

These small, happy and joyful moments bring happiness into the life of Kaalidhar. Fulfilling each goal reawakens something new in Kaalidhar. The same brings up a fleeting memory and brings up smiles and shines on his face. The cast of the Movie Kaalidhar Laapata comes up with a powerful cast that not only adds life to their character but also engages the audience till the end. Abhishek Bachchan as Kaalidhar has tried to bring a raw characterisation so that it sould appear real. Kaalidhar Laapata is a wonderful movie by ZEE Studios and is co-produced with Emmay Entertainment, which brings up an emotional story with absolute mystery for the audience. It is the directorial debut of Madhumita, who is the director of its Tamil version KD as well. Madhumita has perfectly showcased her talent, her powerful direction and her way of portraying characters through this wonderful movie. Why 'Shadows' and 'Silence'? From Shadows The word Shadows in the title refers to the hidden past of Kaalidhar, and that includes his memories, his forgotten relationships and his inner pain. He, along with Ballu, goes on a day-out adventure where shadows from his past keep surfacing. It is not a crime thriller movie, but it includes an emotional sense that engages the audience till the end. To Silence The word silence in the Kaalidhar Laapata movie is all about how shadows bring up the moment of silence. Sometimes the words become too heavy and too painful that it becomes quite necessary to be silent for some time. Tone and Feel of the Film Kaalidhar Laapata is a wonderful movie that features soft lighting and close camera shots, making you feel closer to the characterisation. All of the above not only impact the storyline but also tell the feeling of confusion, sadness and small moments of joy. Whether it is about empty rooms or it's about untouched cups, every silence in the movie speaks loudly. The music of the movie also supports its story without booming and letting emotions breathe. Whether it is about the scene of eating biryani or it is about playing together, every single scene brings up a sense of nostalgia and tells about the hidden stories. Stories like Kaalidhar Laapata take their time in the world of fast-paced action and flashy stories. It lets you feel, listen and ask quietly about the different queries. The movie is quite appreciated by the audience for its slow, emotional stories and depth. The story of the movie initiates real conversations and real feelings without any hassle. Family and Abandonment The story of the Kaalidhar Laapata becomes quite interesting and engaging when the family of Kaalidhar leaves him after his memory loss. Friendship and Healing Ballu is not serving as a friend for Kaalidhar, but has emerged as a spark in the dark life of Kaalidhar. Their connection is quite strong, and simple moments like sharing food and sharing silence connect the audience more to it. Memory and Identity The Kaalidhar Laapata is a wonderful movie that is not about searching for a missing person, but it is about building a path that initiates a memory of Kaalidhar. Kaalidhar Laapata is a wonderful story of an ageing man who was being abundant by his family after his memory loss. The story is not about the things that we say out loud, but is about the relationships that hurt a lot and the relationships that care about us. Enjoyable unpredictability

'Why do you still listen to the radio,' asked a friend, when you can tune into playlists and podcasts available. It is almost like, you name it, and we have it. At the snap of a finger, music is available on demand. That question really made me think and what I probably like about radio is the unpredictable nature of it. You never know which song will play next and that anticipation is indeed a pleasure. I still remember the good old days of the 1980s, much before TV came into our lives. My grandfather used to play radio mostly for film music, and All India Radio, Kozhikode did a good job of mixing new releases as well as reminding us of the black & white era songs. The only other source of listening to a song was by standing outside Lakshmi Talkies, which fortunately had no soundproofing then and standing at the gates one could clearly listen to the movie dialogues as well as the songs. Of course, there were vinyl records and cassette players, but you buy only a select few for your collection. Same holds true when TV was introduced in the mid-1980s in Kerala. Which Hindi movie they would screen on a Sunday evening was something we looked forward to. There was also a regional movie slot on Doordarshan and one would wait as to which language and culture to listen and watch. Will I have Jabbar Patel's Marathi or Girish Kasaravalli's Kannada movie? Or will they pick my home language Malayalam this week. That anticipation was a source of joy for the 12-year-old in me. Then came Chitrahaar, Chitramala and the joy was waiting in anticipation of which song is next. Will they play my favourite Amitabh Bachchan song or take me to the K.L. Saigal days. Fast-forward 2025 and we live in a much predictable world. We want the food items delivered in 15 minutes, we decide which movie to watch on streaming platforms, playlists are organised based on artist and singer. But then if you look around closely, what keeps you engaged in the information age is the unpredictable nature of it! Who will win this match? Will it be Gukesh or Carlsen? Where is this movie heading? What will the climax be? Is there a surprise waiting for us? I have worked hard for the exam. But how will the question paper be? What grade and marks will I get? Will I reach the airport on time for the flight? Can I learn this musical instrument? Will I be able to master it? I could go on and on. The point is this: while we have made many things predictable for a convenient life, you will always derive pleasure from the unpredictable nature of it. So, what are you waiting for, go switch on the radio and you never know, your favourite genre is probably playing there.
