Sister of North Korean leader Kim rejects outreach by South's new president
The influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un rebuffed overtures by South Korea's new liberal government, saying Monday that North Korea has no interests in talks with South Korea no matter what proposal its rival offers. Kim Yo Jong's comments suggest again that North Korea, now preoccupied with its expanding cooperation with Russia, has no intentions of returning to diplomacy with South Korea and the US anytime soon. But experts said North Korea could change its course if it thinks it cannot maintain the same booming ties with Russia when the Russia-Ukraine war nears an end. 'We clarify once again the official stand that no matter what policy is adopted and whatever proposal is made in Seoul, we have no interest in it and there is neither a reason to meet nor an issue to be discussed with' South Korea, Kim Yo Jong said in a statement carried by state media. It's North Korea's first official statement on the government of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, which took office in early June. In an effort to improve badly frayed ties with North Korea, Lee's government has halted anti-Pyongyang frontline loudspeaker broadcasts, taken steps to ban activists from flying balloons with propaganda leaflets across the border and repatriated North Koreans who were drifted south in wooden boats months earlier. Kim Yo Jong called such steps 'sincere efforts' by Lee's government to develop ties. But she said the Lee government won't be much different from its predecessors, citing what it calls 'their blind trust' to the military alliance with the U.S. and attempt to 'stand in confrontation' with North Korea. She mentioned the upcoming summertime South Korea-U.S. military drills, which North Korea views as an invasion rehearsal. North Korea has been shunning talks with South Korea and the U.S. since leader Kim Jong Un's high-stakes nuclear diplomacy with President Donald Trump fell apart in 2019 due to wrangling over international sanctions. North Korea has since focused on building more powerful nuclear weapons targeting its rivals. North Korea now prioritizes cooperation with Russia by sending troops and conventional weapons to support its war against Ukraine, likely in return for economic and military assistance. South Korea, the U.S. and others say Russia may even give North Korea sensitive technologies that can enhance its nuclear and missile programs. Since beginning his second term in January, Trump has repeatedly boasted of his personal ties with Kim Jong Un and expressed intent to resume diplomacy with him. But North Korea hasn't publicly responded to Trump's overture. In early 2024, Kim Jong Un ordered the rewriting of the constitution to remove the long-running state goal of a peaceful Korean unification and cement South Korea as an 'invariable principal enemy.' That caught many foreign experts by surprise because it was seen as eliminating the idea of shared statehood between the war-divided Koreas and breaking away with his predecessors' long-cherished dreams of peacefully achieving a unified Korea on the North's terms. Many experts say Kim likely aims to guard against South Korean cultural influence and bolster his family's dynastic rule. Others say Kim wants legal room to use his nuclear weapons against South Korea by making it as a foreign enemy state, not a partner for potential unification which shares a sense of national homogeneity.

Udaipur Files Producer Amit Jani Granted Y-Category Security with Restricted Movement
Last Updated: Producer Amit Jani of Udaipur Files gets Y-category security from the Central government due to threats. The protection includes 11 CRPF personnel, limited to North India. Amit Jani, the producer of the controversial upcoming film Udaipur Files, has been granted Y-category security following threats received in connection with the project. The Central government has sanctioned this security arrangement, although it will only be effective in parts of North India. The Ministry of Home Affairs' Y-category protection includes 11 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. However, the protection is limited to specific regions, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. This means Jani will not have access to the same level of security in other parts of the country. Confirming the news, Jani expressed his gratitude on social media. Her comments on the Prophet Muhammad had sparked a nationwide controversy at the time. Following the murder, the accused had uploaded a video online, claiming responsibility for the act and stating that it was in retaliation for the tailor's online post. One of the accused in the case, Javed, approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the release of the film. Earlier, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ordered 150 cuts in the film before clearing it for release. Initially scheduled to hit theatres on July 11, 2025, Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder will now release on August 8, 2025. The film features Vijay Raaz in the lead role and has faced delays due to censorship and legal hurdles. CRPF personnel to be sent to Libya to secure Indian embassy
The CRPF will soon send its personnel to Libya, CRPF director general (DG) GP Singh said at the raising day function of the force on Sunday. A CRPF contingent will be incharge of the embassy security and posted in internal security duty, people aware of the matter said, adding that around 50 officers have been selected. CRPF personnel to be sent to Libya to secure Indian embassy Addressing his troops on the raising day function, Singh said, 'CRPF is not only working inside the country but as part of the United Nations missions, it is posted in Sri Lanka, Haiti, Kosovo, Liberia and other countries as peacekeepers. Currently CRPF is there in the Baghdad embassy and is ready to be sent to Libya.' Singh did not share other details of the CRPF's proposed operations in Libya. 'The MHA has asked CRPF to prepare its best officers. Personnel who have experience of working in conflict, notably J&K, North East and Left Wing Extremism Areas(LWE) areas have been handpicked. The teams are ready and will fly out as soon as the clearance is received from the MHA and MEA,' one officer, who asked not to be named, said. Until 2019, the CRPF was posted in Tripoli(Libya) to guard the Indian embassy but the contingent was pulled up after violence escalated in the country due to the civil war there. India reopened its embassy in June last year, after almost five years during which the mission in Tripoli was maintained by a skeletal staff consisting of a gardener and a consular clerk. Prior to the uprising against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, about 18,000 Indians worked in the country. Amid the fragile security situation in Libya in 2014, some 3,800 Indian nationals were repatriated, including six who had been kidnapped by the Islamic State. At the CRPF's 87th Raising Day function, union home secretary Govind Mohan said that the CRPF has set up 149 camps of forward operating bases in core Naxal areas, which have pushed back forced the left wing extremists. Mohan said the ministry has identified challenges with which the CRPF personnel are living in the camps and conducting anti-Naxal ops. 'In the LWE areas, during an assessment we found out the challenges faced by the jawan – drinking water, road connectivity, mobile phone connectivity. The MHA is in mission mode to provide the best facilities at the camps. In some places such as Bastar, Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada where there were no roads all these years. The CRPF has set up camps so we are confident in winning this battle in Central India against LWE. It is our duty that we provide the best facilities at the earliest so that our brave personnel have the facilities and can at least take rest when they return to their camps. The Border Roads Organisations(BRO) is working to build roads in core Naxal areas and made it a priority. The Naxal violence is reducing. It is because of the strength of CRPF that the ministry has resolved to end Naxal violence by March 2021, 2026,' Govind said.
