Max Homa has had a season to forget, but there are signs of life after a solid finish this past week.
The 2025 PGA Tour season for the ninth time this year required a playoff to determine a winner at the John Deere Classic. Brian Campbell defeated Emiliano Grillo on the first hole of the playoff for his second win of the season.
Meanwhile, Homa, who held a solo lead during Sunday's final round, ultimately finished fifth. His putter let him down on the back nine while Campbell, Grillo and others charged past him up the leaderboard.

Max Homa Shows Character in Loss
Despite the mounting frustration, the six-time PGA Tour winner has kept a level head. Even as fans spew hate and vitriol at him through social media.
After his first top 10 of the season on Sunday, one such fan sent a Venmo request to Homa in the amount of $1,900. What did the PGA Tour fan favorite do? Simply put the guy on blast by screenshotting and sharing on his Instagram stories, with the guy's name for everyone to see.
Positive vibes only for Max Homa after his close call at the John Deere, even if his DMs weren't so positive. 😳

Homa included another message from a fan that is far too disgusting to even reiterate.
But there is a reason the Burbank, California native is so beloved by most fans. He wears his emotions on his sleeves, and keeps a positive mindset. That was once again illustrated by his Instagram post.
"Disappointing finish but huge thx to the @johndeereclassic for an amazing week. The fans were unbelievable! I think I lost 15 pounds of water weight so thankful for that as well," Homa wrote.
Homa recently addressed his disgust with X, formerly Twitter. He is not a fan of the type of mentality some people express behind a username. But this instance shows that hatred exists across platforms.
Nevertheless, he will keep chugging along. After playing the last few weeks, Max Homa is taking this week's Scottish Open off. It is an interesting decision considering he has not yet qualified to play in next week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
153 spots have been claimed, with three more up for grabs at the PGA Tour-DP World Tour co-sanctioned event. The top three finishers not already exempt will earn the final spots into Northern Ireland.

Rory McIlroy on Verge of Masters Form, Scottish Open Title in Sights

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. We are just one round away from knowing the winner's name at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, and major signs point to Rory McIlroy. After a blistering Round 3 at The Renaissance Club, McIlroy shares the lead at 11-under with American Chris Gotterup, heading into the final day. And the 5-time major winner's confidence is just in the right place. "I think I'm pretty close to being back to the level I was at going into The Masters," McIlroy said after carding 66 on Saturday. "I've had a little bit of a lull, which I feel is understandable. So I'm just getting back to the level that I know I can play at." That showed as the Grand Slam winner opened his Round 3 with a birdie at the par-5. But it was not smooth, Rory had to make that birdie on the 8th to bounce back from his bogey at the 7th hole. (Photo by) More Getty Images The best part was when the Northern Irishman added red numbers on the 10th, 14th, and the 16th hole where he hit a straight 173-yard shot from the sand. It could have been even better if that bunker shot on the 15th had not bounced out of the cup. "I felt like the conditions were tougher as the day went on, and the back nine played more difficult today than it did yesterday, at least for me. A NEAR HOLE-OUT FROM THE BUNKER FOR RORY 😱 — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS) July 12, 2025 "But I controlled my ball flight well and did what I needed to do, close on the last two holes as well. Overall happy with the day's work," he said. McIlroy's last win came at Augusta National in April, where he broke his 11-year curse and secured the career Grand Slam. At Renaissance, he's showing similar control, particularly on the back nine, where he's 10-under through 27 holes this week. "To be back here for the last couple of weeks, and feel like I could actually digest all of it... I came to this tournament with renewed enthusiasm and excitement for the rest of the year," the 29-time PGA Tour winner said. If Rory wins this Sunday, it would be his 2nd Scottish Open title and 4th win of the season. Additionally, he'll pocket a total of $1.575 million and earn 500 FedEx Cup points, moving strongly to next week's Open Championship. New PGA Tour CEO Lays Out Plan to Expand Golf's Digital Footprint

The PGA Tour recently handed its reins to an ex-NFL Chief Media and Business Officer with over 20 years of experience, and he's already shaking things up. Brian Rolapp, currently in a transitional period, was officially announced as the new PGA Tour CEO just 25 days ago. On Friday, during his interview on CNBC's Squawk Box, he laid out his early priorities. "When you work in the sports business, it's not that complicated," he said. "You need to think like a fan. And I think the fans have spoken, they want to see the best golfers play more often. That should be a goal for the sport in general." The Harvard Business School graduate acknowledged the complexities of a potential deal with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, calling it "a blank sheet of paper" and "a situation involving no less than two sovereign nations." But he was clear about his focus, stating, "The opportunity for the growth of the PGA Tour... and the innovation we can bring, that's going to be my primary focus". (Photo by Tracy Wilcox/PGA TOUR via Getty Images) Getty Images Rolapp's later expressed more about his digital and tech mindset. "We need to go where the fans are," he said. "And increasingly, the fans are spending their time in digital. A big priority is to increase our digital footprint in all sorts of ways that could include the tour events themselves" The new boss further highlighted an 'underrepresented' concern in the PGA Tour: "But it also include everything in between the tour events, and tell the stories of these golfers and tell the stories of the sport, which I think is underrepresented in media." LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil echoed similar sentiments Scott O'Neil, who is reported to have an old relationship with Rolapp from their Harvard graduation days, echoed similar sentiments on the Rick Shiels Golf Show. "We're (Rolapp & Neil) friends," the LIV Golf CEO said. "He's someone I know really well and have a lot of respect for." O'Neil added that Rolapp's arrival could "facilitate [unification] at a faster pace," especially with LIV's emphasis on team formats and global reach. Interestingly, even when the new PGA Tour CEO was asked whether he wants to see the sport evolve like LIV's team-based model, Rolapp responded: "I think the PGA Tour product is strong as it is. Viewership has grown significantly this year. On Sundays, we're pulling 3 to 4 million viewers, that's a large sports event." He emphasized that fans are "voting with their remotes and their mouses," and that innovation will be welcomed, but not at the expense of tradition. "We're going to honor golf's traditions, but we're not going to be overly bound by them," he continued. "Wherever there's innovation, we're going to look at it". Until now, the ex-NFL executive's appointment has earned him praise from several pros, including Tiger Woods himself. "Brian's appointment is a win for players and fans," Woods said after his official appointment. And the fans are excited to see what comes next.
