Teachers took the opportunity to explain the importance of yoga for physical and mental well-being to the eager young participants. Following the yoga sessions, schools provided breakfast to the children before they joined the state-wide 'Yogandhra' programme. For this special occasion, school hours were adjusted from 6 am to 12 pm.
The school Education department successfully organised Yogandhra across 61,266 government, private, and aided schools, witnessing the participation of nearly 60 lakh individuals, including students, teach-ers, school staff, School Management Committee (SMC) members, and parents.
This massive event, with yoga performances by millions, marked a historic achievement for the state.
B Srinivasa Rao, state project director of Samagra Shiksha, highlighted the significance of the event, stating that the mass participation across thousands of schools reflected the deep commitment of the education ecosystem to holistic student well-being.
Director of school education V Vijay Ramaraju thanked everyone who contributed to the successful exe-cution of Yogandhra over the past month and ensured the grand observance of International Yoga Day.
He specifically commended the dedicated efforts of nodal officers, department HoDs, RJDs, DEOs, APCs, MEOs, headmasters, teachers, physical education instructors, voluntary organisations, SMC, and PTA members, and parents, whose collective support made the initiative a resounding success.

School Chalo Abhiyan's 2nd phase to take off today with reopening of edu institutes
Lucknow: The fortnight-long second phase of School Chalo Abhiyan will be launched across the state on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the academic session 2025–26. The govt has released Rs 2 lakh to every district for smooth execution of campaign. "This is not merely an enrollment drive, but a dedicated effort to bring education to children who are out of school. All govt primary schools will be cleaned, beautified, and decorated in a festive manner as they reopen on July 1 after the summer vacation," an official said. "Children will be welcomed with 'roli-chandan' (auspicious red turmeric paste), garlands, and delightful traditional food items. The mid-day meal will include special dishes like 'halwa' and 'kheer', making the experience of warmth, celebration, and motivation," he added. As part of the campaign, teachers, instructors, shiksha mitras, and SMC (school management committee) members will go door-to-door to ensure maximum enrollment. Efforts will be made to identify school dropouts and out-of-school children, and to engage with their parents. "Special emphasis will be laid on enrolling and retaining girls who have dropped out due to household responsibilities or societal reasons. Meena Manch platforms will be activated in schools, using plays and storytelling to raise awareness about the importance of girls' education," he said. TNN

Over 60,000 found ineligible under Delhi government's Women's Pension Scheme after verification drive
Over 60,000 beneficiaries have been found ineligible under the Delhi government's Women's Pension Scheme following a large-scale verification exercise conducted by the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department, officials on Monday said. This scheme provides a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to widowed, divorced, separated and destitute women. However, a door-to-door verification drive launched in November last year uncovered widespread discrepancies. As a result, the names of over 60,000 ineligible recipients have now been removed from the beneficiary list, an official told PTI. "The verification revealed several instances where women no longer met the eligibility criteria but continued to receive the pension. These included remarried women claiming to be divorced, employed women drawing assistance despite a steady income and others who no longer resided at their registered addresses," he said. The official said that "a number of beneficiaries were found to be ineligible under the existing norms of the scheme". Live Events "The verification drive has been completed in all districts and necessary corrections have been made to the database," he said, adding this exercise has enabled us to ensure that the pension is provided only to those who genuinely qualify for it. The official said the verification process, conducted by the Anganwadi workers, covered nearly 4.25 lakh beneficiaries. Pension payments have been discontinued for those found ineligible and resumed for verified beneficiaries. At present, around 3.65 lakh women are receiving regular pension under the scheme, he added. The official further said that the initiative was not intended to withdraw support from genuine applicants but to eliminate fraudulent claims and strengthen accountability. "Correcting the beneficiary list is essential to uphold the integrity of the welfare system, it also helps avoid diversion of funds and ensures that deserving women are not deprived of timely assistance," he added. This scheme was introduced in 2007-08 to provide a regular source of income to economically weak widows. It supported 6,288 women with Rs 600 per month in the first year. Over time, the benefit amount was increased and eligibility was expanded. Currently, eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, residents of Delhi for five or more years and belong to families with an annual income not exceeding Rs 1 lakh. The Delhi government spends nearly Rs 1,140 crore annually on the scheme on 3.65 lakh beneficiaries.

8,583 students selected for free admissions in pvt schools
Vijayawada: Asper the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, Section 12(1)(c), 25 per cent seats in private unaided schools are reserved for free admissions to children from disadvantaged and weaker sections. For the academic year 2025-26, as part of the second phase lottery results, 8,583 students have been selected for free admissions in private schools, stated B Srinivasa Rao, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha. The parents or guardians of the allotted students must visit the respective schools along with necessary verification documents to confirm the admissions from June 21 to 28. However, in view of requests from parents and officials, the deadline has now been extended till July 2, 2025 for admission confirmation. The details of selected students have been sent via SMS to the registered mobile numbers of parents and are also available on the official website: For further information, the toll-free number 1800 425 8599 can be contacted. Project Director Srinivasa Rao has made it clear that admissions must not be denied by the managements. He said all concerned private school managements are instructed to verify the submitted documents and confirm the admissions accordingly. Denial of admission without valid reason will invite departmental action. These admissions will be confirmed through logins specially assigned to the Additional Project Coordinators (APCs) of Samagra Shiksha at the district level. In case of any queries, school managements may contact the respective MEOs, DEOs or RJDs.
