The country's largest airline, Air Canada, reported earlier this month that it was seeing booking on transborder markets drop by low teens percentage points, on average, for the following six months.

Return trips by automobile plunged 35 per cent — the fourth straight month of year-over-year declines in both categories.

A research note by ATB Economics on Wednesday pointed out the number of Canadians returning from south of the border through the Calgary and Edmonton airports dropped 5.6 per cent during the first four months of 2025 from year-earlier levels.

And it's not just Canadian flyers showing their displeasure with the trade war by shifting their travel patterns.

Through April, the number of Canadians returning from the U.S. by both air and road fell 22 per cent, and for Alberta, it decreased eight per cent from the same period last year, said ATB deputy chief economist Rob Roach.

The trade conflict will lead to more Albertans travelling to other countries outside the U.S., but it will also likely see more consumers taking vacations and spending their tourism dollars inside the country, Roach said in an interview.

'I do think it's a temporary thing, but it will last and go (on) as long as the trade war is hot,' he said Wednesday.

'They are still tariffs and we are one tweet away — or Truth Social post away — from this blowing up again. So, until there's a sense that things are back to normal, I think we'll see this reflected in the actual numbers.'

After Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Trump in Washington earlier this month, the annexation discussion subsided from the White House.

However, the U.S. president mentioned it again on social media Tuesday, saying Canada could join his country's Golden Dome defence system for $61 billion but it would cost 'ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st state. They are considering our offer!'

How long could a travel boycott continue?

'We do assume that at some point in time, there will be some kind of agreement, hopefully,' von Hoensbroech added.

'What we have seen in the past in our industry is that whenever there's a change in demand pattern for political reasons, it's usually transitional, and long-term demand trends usually flow back.'

Susan Bell, a senior vice-president with consultancy Rystad Energy, said the decline in travel to the U.S. isn't just coming from Canada, but also from fewer travellers coming from other countries — and it's showing up in less jet fuel demand.

About 20 per cent of U.S. aviation fuel demand is typically tied to international flights.

Coveo Announces Renewal of Normal Course Issuer Bid and Automatic Securities Purchase Plan Français

, July 15, 2025 /CNW/ - Coveo Solutions Inc. (" Coveo" or the " Company") (TSX: CVO), the leader in AI-Relevance, delivering best-in-class AI-search and generative experiences that maximize business outcomes at every point-of-experience, announced today that its board of directors has authorized, and the Toronto Stock Exchange (" TSX") has approved, Coveo's notice of intention to renew its normal course issuer bid (the " NCIB") to purchase for cancellation up to 5,423,244 subordinate voting shares (" Shares") over the twelve-month period commencing on July 17, 2025 and ending no later than July 16, 2026, representing approximately 10% of the "public float" of the Shares as at July 4, 2025. As at July 4, 2025, 55,730,805 Shares were issued and outstanding, of which 54,232,443 constituted the "public float". The renewal of the NCIB follows on the conclusion of Coveo's previous normal course issuer bid which expires on July 16, 2025 (the " Previous NCIB"). Coveo had received the approval of the TSX to purchase up to 2,690,573 Shares under the Previous NCIB. From July 17, 2024 to July 16, 2025, Coveo purchased the full 2,690,573 Shares authorized by the TSX under the Previous NCIB, through open market purchases on the TSX and Canadian alternative trading systems, with Shares purchased at a weighted average price of C$6.43 per Share. The NCIB will be conducted through the facilities of the TSX or alternative Canadian trading systems and will conform to their regulations. Shares will be acquired under the NCIB at the market price at the time of purchase. Purchases under the NCIB will be made by means of open market transactions, including through privately negotiated transactions or such other means as a securities regulatory authority may permit. In the event that the Company acquires Shares by other means as a securities regulatory authority may permit, the purchase price of the Shares may be different than the market price of the Shares at the time of the acquisition. Purchases made under an issuer bid exemption order will be at a discount to the prevailing market price as per the terms of the order. Furthermore, under the NCIB, Coveo may make, once per week, a block purchase (as such term is defined in the TSX Company Manual) at market price, in accordance with TSX rules. Under TSX rules, block purchases may not be made, directly or indirectly, from any insider of the Company, including shareholders of Coveo holding more than 10% of the Shares or the Multiple Voting Shares. Coveo will otherwise be allowed to purchase daily, through the facilities of the TSX, a maximum of 33,606 Shares representing 25% of the average daily trading volume, as calculated per the TSX rules for the six-month period starting on January 1, 2025 and ending on June 30, 2025. Coveo also announced today that, in connection with its intention to renew the NCIB, it has renewed its automatic share purchase plan (the " ASPP") with a designated broker to allow for the purchase of its Shares under the NCIB, once effective, at times when Coveo normally would not be active in the market due to applicable regulatory restrictions or internal trading black-out periods. Before the commencement of any internal trading black-out period, Coveo may, but is not required to, instruct its designated broker to make purchases of Coveo's Shares under the NCIB during the ensuing black-out period in accordance with the terms of the ASPP. Such purchases will be determined by the broker in its sole discretion based on parameters established by Coveo prior to commencement of the applicable black-out period in accordance with the terms of the ASPP and applicable TSX rules. Outside of these black-out periods, Shares will be purchasable by Coveo at its discretion under the NCIB, once effective. The ASPP constitutes an "automatic securities purchase plan" under applicable Canadian securities laws. Coveo is renewing its NCIB as it provides it with a capital allocation alternative, with a view to continue to create long-term shareholder value. Coveo's board of directors and management believe that the market price of the Shares may from time to time not reflect the underlying value of the Shares, and purchases of Shares for cancellation under the NCIB provides both (i) an opportunity to enhance shareholder value, as purchasing Shares for cancellation through an NCIB increases each shareholder's relative equity interests in Coveo, and (ii) liquidity to selling shareholders in the market. The actual number of Shares purchased under the NCIB, the timing of purchases and the price at which the Shares are purchased will depend on various factors, including Coveo's capital and liquidity positions, accounting and tax considerations, Coveo's operational performance, alternative uses of capital, the trading price of the Shares on the TSX, and market conditions. This press release is for informational purposes only and does not constitute an offer to buy or the solicitation of an offer to sell Coveo's shares. Bell: Pierre Poilievre on the warpath, slams Carney — with a vengeance

Article content 'Look at how bad things are in Canada today and getting worse.' Article content There. Poilievre said it. Article content Political big brains, or those who are considered political big brains in the fashionable areas of Ottawa, hate it when Poilievre says Canada is broken. They think saying Canada is broken is a real downer. Article content Maybe not with fat-wallet boomers or blue-chip bankers but, for many others, it's real. Too real. Article content On Monday, Poilievre is asked the predictable puzzler. Article content Does the Conservative leader have plans to do things differently? Article content 'Our mission remains the same,' he says. Article content And you don't get Poilievre if you don't understand he is on a mission, to help make the lives of working people better. Article content You can disagree with how he thinks he can do that but it's how he sees what he's doing. A mission. Article content The man is asked about Alberta this day. Article content Poilievre was born and raised in Calgary. He is running in a byelection to win a House of Commons seat representing Battle River-Crowfoot, in Alberta's rock-solid conservative heartland. The vote is next month. Article content Article content Article content Last week, Poilievre said he lost his Liberal seat in the Ottawa area because he was up-front about cutting the size of the federal government. Article content Those federal government time-servers have one sweet gig, hard to score but once you get the ticket to ride you don't want to give up your seat. Article content As for Alberta, Poilievre says Albertans have a right to be pissed off. Article content The oilpatch has been 'under relentless attack' while Alberta is the number one contributor to the country per person, paying more in taxes to Ottawa than what it gets back from Ottawa. Article content He talks about the rural way of life also under attack from 'dumb gun laws instead of locking up the real criminals' and growing up in Alberta he understood 'the federal government has viciously attacked the Alberta economy.' Article content While Poilievre is bringing the heat he goes after a political untouchable. Article content Article content Immigration. Very hard caps on immigration. More people leaving than coming, at least for the next couple of years. Inviting the right people in the right numbers to put Canada and Canadians first. Article content
