Lucy Letby chief witness in bizarre 'turned on' rant at campaigner

Daily Mirror15-06-2025
Chief expert witness Dr Dewi Evans has dismissed an attempt by a pro-Letby campaigner to challenge his evidence - by claiming his interest in the case was purely sexual
A supporter of killer nurse Lucy Letby's was motivated by a sexual attraction to "pretty young blonde females", an expert witness who was central to her conviction has claimed. Dr Dewi Evans, 75, the prosecution's chief expert and retired paediatrician, took aim at a statistician who had quizzed him in an attempt to pick holes in his testimony.
The expert - who has remained anonymous due to the nature of his work - attempted to cast doubt on the case against the evil baby killer on triedbystats.com website. But Dr Evans challenged theories cast by the campaigner by claiming that his interest in the case was purely sexual. He said: "You seem very intense, and it's not unusual for men to have the hots for pretty young blonde females.

Lucy Letby campaign slammed by top Government minister in six damning words

"A nursing uniform is a turn-on for some by all accounts. I would suggest you need to get out more, find yourself an available pretty young blonde female, with/without nursing credentials. But one who doesn't go to work intent on murdering her patients."
The pro-Letby campaigner has since attempted to justify his view the child serial killer - who was convicted of killing seven babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital by a jury - is innocent. He told the Mail on Sunday: "When I first heard about Letby's conviction, I had assumed she was guilty. I don't believe that any more. This has nothing to do with her appearance but everything to do with the trial transcripts I've since read.
"Dr Evans' evidence, in particular, is astounding. In several alleged incidents, it turned out Letby wasn't even on shift. On the stand, Evans spontaneously changed his medical opinion, abandoning five years of pretrial reports and producing new theories conveniently aligning with times he now knew Letby had been present.
"Since the trial, an overwhelming number of highly qualified medical experts have described Dr Evans' evidence as absurd theories. But the most absurd of all is the idea that any questioning of the verdict is motivated by Letby being a blonde nurse."

A campaign advocating for the nurse's innocence that dubbed Letby's convictions "the biggest miscarriage of justice in British legal history" has had cold water poured upon it by countless experts and politicians. The speculation around Letby's conviction has been condemned by the families of the victims, who labelled those spreading what can only be categorised as rumours online as 'hurtful and distasteful.'
Evil Letby, 35, from Hereford, is serving 15 whole-life orders after she was convicted at Manchester Crown Court of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others, with two attempts on one of her victims, between June 2015 and June 2016. Her whole life tariff means that she will never be eligible, and is expected to die behind bars.
She was convicted for attacking and killing infants by various means while a nurse on the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital. One such method was injecting air into the bloodstream, which caused an air embolism that blocked the blood supply and led to sudden and unexpected collapses.
The baby murdering nurse lost two bids last year to challenge her convictions at the Court of Appeal – in May for seven murders and seven attempted murders, and in October for the attempted murder of a baby girl which she was convicted of by a different jury at a retrial.

Labour's border chaos is fuelling public fury and fear as dangerous foreign offenders vanish into thin air

Labour's not smashing it IT is little more than a year since Labour came to power promising to smash the people-smuggling gangs. Instead they have smashed the economy — with inflation up, unemployment up and business confidence at a record low. The only significant growth is in the number of illegal migrants coming here in small boats. Already over 25,000 have arrived this year — a 50 per cent rise on the 2024 figure by this stage, which was shocking enough. That number is dwarfed by the UK's astonishing 700,000 population increase in just a year — almost entirely due to legal immigration — which itself is utterly unsustainable. The arrival of thousands of mostly undocumented illegal migrants is symptomatic of just how badly Britain has lost control of its borders. It's not just the millions of pounds it costs taxpayers every day to shower the migrants with handouts and put them up in hotels, nor the fact that so many of them find black market jobs. Most of the arrivals are young men of fighting age — yet the authorities seem to have little idea who they are, even if they end up in court. National emergency We discovered earlier this week that the number of foreign sex offenders and violent criminals in prison in England and Wales is at a record high, and that 40 per cent of people charged with sex attacks in the capital were foreign nationals. Now we learn foreign criminals are simply walking free mid-trial and disappearing under false names because of a dangerous 'disconnect' between prosecutors and immigration enforcement. It is little wonder that people — not least mothers — worry about migrant hotels on their doorsteps, or that protests are growing, or that polls show immigration is the number one issue concerning voters. So what is the Government doing about this national emergency? Reform UK's rising star Laila Cunningham It seems to have no plan, beyond a sketchy one-in-one-out deal with France and setting up a spy unit to track anyone on social media discussing anti-migrant sentiment or two-tier justice. While Britain continues to house soaring numbers of uninvited guests in four-star hotels, America has seen a massive drop in illegal border crossings because tough detention centres and deportations await those who do. President Donald Trump has shown the problem CAN be tackled, if only the political will exists. The Government, which ditched the Rwanda scheme — the only viable deterrent — as its first act in power, has shown precious little will so far. It's about time Sir Keir Starmer realised the urgency of the situation... and started taking tough action of his own. 1

Woman in her 60s found dead at bottom of cliff just hours after couple's bodies

A woman in her 60s has been found dead at the bottom of cliffs below Whitby Abbey. It is the third death in the area in the space of 24 hours after a couple in their 40s died after falling from the cliff. The woman's body was found yesterday just hours after the couple's bodies were found. Her body was found by a member of the public just after midday on Thursday. Emergency services including police, ambulance, coastguard, mountain rescue and lifeboat teams were all called to the scene. Rescue crews were called in to help with the recovery of her body due to the location and she was taken to the lifeboat house. It is believed the woman fell from the cliff shortly before her death. 'Enquiries are ongoing to investigate the circumstances for a coroner's report. 'The sudden death is not believed to be suspicious. The woman's family have been informed and are receiving support. More Trending 'Witnesses to the incident or anyone with information that could assist officers, are urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 12250142097.' The police investigation is ongoing before a report will be sent to the coroner. On Wednesday, a couple died after they fell from the cliff by Whitby Abbey. Ghislaine Maxwell quietly moved out of Florida prison while seeking Trump pardon

Jeffrey Epstein's accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has been quietly transferred from a Florida federal prison to a lower-security facility in Texas as she seeks a pardon from President Donald Trump. Maxwell's move out of Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee was confirmed by the Bureau of Prisons on Friday, amid her push for a deal to speak on the late Epstein and be released. 'We can confirm, Ghislaine Maxwell is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,' stated BOP inmate locator official Benjamin O'Cone. The reason Maxwell, 63, was moved was not immediately clear. Maxwell's attorney David Oscar Markus also confirmed that his client was sent to the Texas facility but said 'we have no other comment', according to USA Today. The disgraced British socialite in 2022 was sentenced to 20 years for helping convicted sex offender Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. About a month after her sentencing, she was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to FCI Tallahassee, which is a 'low security' prison for men and women. FCP Bryan is a 'minimum security' camp only housing women. Maxwell was interviewed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche of the Justice Department for two straight days last week. She 'answered every single question' and 'never invoked a privilege, never declined to answer', Markus said. The Justice Department brokered the interview despite asking the US Supreme Court to reject Maxwell's appeal of her conviction. The Trump administration continues to face criticism after the Justice Department and FBI last month said there is no incriminating Epstein client list, breaking from an earlier promise to disclose the documents. More Trending Trump has not ruled out pardoning Maxwell. 'I'm allowed to do it, but it's something I haven't thought about,' he said a week ago. Markus said of a possible commutation for Maxwell: 'The president said earlier he has the power to do so, we hope he exercises that power in the right way.'
