BMS not to participate in General Strike on Wednesday
According to a statement, the BMS has stated that certain trade unions have decided to go on strike on Wednesday to protest against the government's plan to implement labour codes and it is not participating in this agitation.

Their demands include withdrawal of fixed term employment and scrapping of Agnipath scheme, 8-hour workday, restoration of non-contributory Old Pension Scheme and a minimum monthly penion of ₹9,000 for the EPFO subscribers, among others.
They also demand to implement the recommendation of Indian Labour Conference to give worker status to scheme workers-Anganwadi, Asha and Midday meal, Asha Kiran etc and ESIC coverage to them.
The charter also suggests that here is an urgent need to form a Climate Resilience Fund to cover the risks and damages caused due to extreme climate conditions including heat wave, floods, cyclones, unseasonal rains and so on.
The charter of demand also urged for hosting an Indian Labour Conference . The tripartite body last met in 2015.
Besides, unions have demanded for immediate halt to the privatisation of Indian Railways, road transport, coal mines and other non-coal mines, Port and Dock, Defence, Electricity, Postal, Telecom, Banks and Insurance sector etc.
They also demanded a rollback of the corporatisation of ordnance factories and a monthly minimum wage of ₹26000 with price indexation every five years.
The forum had last year submitted a charter of 17-point demand to Labour Minister Mansukh Mandavia, the workers' union forum has said in its latest statement.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and joint front of the agricultural workers unions have extended support to this strike action and decided to make massive mobilsations in rural India.
Trade unions had earlier observed similar nationwide strikes on November 26, 2020, on March 28-29, 2022, and on February 16 last year.

Schoolteachers on Tuesday held protests in several districts of Uttar Pradesh over various issues, including the merger of primary schools with low student enrolment. BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has denied anticipatory bail to an Indore-based cartoonist Hemant Malviya who was booked by police on May 21 for allegedly posting objectionable content about the RSS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lord Shiva. Dismissing Malviya's anticipatory bail plea, Justice Subodh Abhyankar said, 'The applicant ought to have used his discretion, while drawing the aforesaid caricature, and he had clearly overstepped the threshold of freedom of speech and expression, and doesn't appear to know his limits. In view of the same, this Court is of the considered opinion that the custodial interrogation of the applicant would be necessary.' 'The conduct of the anticipatory bail applicant in depicting the RSS, which is a Hindu organisation, along with the country's PM in the aforesaid caricature, coupled with his endorsement of a rather demeaning remark, dragging unnecessarily the name of Lord Shiva in the comments tagged to it, is nothing but the sheer misuse of speech and expression as enshrined under Art.19(1)(a) of the Constitution, and falls under the definition of offence as contended by the complainant,' the judge added. 'In the considered opinion of this Court, the post becomes more unsettling when the aforesaid derogatory lines involving Lord Shiva are also added to it, and which have also been favourably endorsed by the applicant himself who is also encouraging other people to experiment with the said caricature, which certainly cannot be said to be made in good taste or faith,' the court said in its five-page order dated July 3. 'It is apparent that the applicant's aforesaid act is deliberate and malicious intended to outrage religious feelings of the complainant and the public at large by insulting its religion, which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony in the society,' it observed. The High Court's decision came 40 days after a sessions court in Indore had rejected Malviya's anticipatory bail plea on 24 May.
