Trainer Rex Lipp aiming to fulfil Cifrado owner's spring carnival dream
Lotto winner Cliff Little has long dreamt of having a runner in the Sydney or Melbourne spring carnival and so trainer Rex Lipp is going to grant him his wish.
Cairns owner Little - who collected a monster $40m on lotto from a $26 ticket - owns $1.7m earner and multiple Group 2 winner Cifrado who races in Little's red and white racing colours which tip the hat to St George.
Cifrado didn't trouble the scorers in the Queensland winter carnival but Group 1-winning Toowoomba trainer Lipp knows he has a good horse on his hands.
It's time to do some travelling with the four-year-old gelding in the spring.
'Cifrado is spelling and will be in the paddock for another 10 days, but he will go to Sydney or Melbourne in the spring,' Lipp said.
'The bloke who owns him would love to have a starter in Sydney or Melbourne.
'He has spent millions on horses and he would really like to see Cifrado racing down south.
'I haven't picked anything out for him yet, I will talk to a few blokes and get an idea of what races would suit him early in the spring.
'We won't be going down there for the big races, we will pick our mark.'

Meanwhile, Lipp thinks he can fire a shot at Ipswich on Saturday with last December's Gold Edition Plate champion Superalloy.
It was the only race that Superalloy has won in his 11-start career but Lipp said don't be surprised if Superalloy is in the money when racing in the $150,000 TL Cooney (1350m) at Ipswich on Saturday.
Lipp thinks bookmakers are offering a silly price, with Superalloy rated a $13 chance in a betting market headed by Stay Focused ($3.20) who has drawn barrier 17.
Superalloy drops in class after running a big race as a $151 shot in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic, being beaten 2½ lengths in a race where Lipp insists he should have finished closer to the winner Spicy Martini who then raced in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
'It's a big class drop for him on Saturday, he only got beaten two and a half lengths in the Fred Best and he got held up for a run,' Lipp said.
'I am sure he should have run a place in that race.
'The only time he let me down was in the Queensland Guineas, but it turns out he can't run 1600m.
'He is a horse you can race up on the pace and he has drawn well which is the thing you want to do at Ipswich.
'I do believe he will be right in the money.
'Bailey Wheeler rides him and he rides him well.'

Wallabies release Taniela Tupou to NSW Waratahs to take on British & Irish Lions
In a major development ahead of Australia's critical Test against Fiji this weekend, giant prop Taniela Tupou has been released from the Wallabies' training camp and sent back to the Waratahs for their tour match against the British and Irish Lions. Named as the starting tighthead prop in Australia's last match against Scotland on their 2024 end of season tour to Europe, Tupou has lost his spot in the squad for the Wallabies' only warm-up match for the Lions, against Fiji in Newcastle on Sunday. Nonggorr was not released from the Wallabies' training camp for the Reds' match against the Lions in Brisbane on Wednesday. Robertson was let go so he could play for the Western Force against the Lions last weekend and had a storming game, despite his team's heavy 54-7 loss. One of six Force players who ran out against the Lions in Perth, Robertson returned to the Wallabies camp on Sunday and was given a clean bill of health after undergoing a fitness check. Robertson hasn't played a Test for Australia in three years but has put himself back in the picture for the series opener at Suncorp Stadium on July 19 and is desperate for a recall. 'Just to be in the squad is an honour, to try and push for a gig in that 23 would be unreal. I'd come close last year being in the squad for a bit and then had a few injuries and didn't make the 23.' Lambourn completes English-Irish Derby double as Aidan O'Brien domination continues
Lambourn continued his equine family's extraordinary classic dynasty and provided training genius Aidan O'Brien with a record-extending 17th win in the Irish Derby at The Curragh on Sunday. O'Brien prepared a stable 1-2 with Lambourn, ridden by Ryan Moore, holding off Serious Contender to win by three-quarters of a length. The Irish Derby wasn't a repeat of Lambourn's virtuoso effort at Epsom when he led throughout to win the English Derby by more than four lengths but he was convincing nonetheless, responding when challenged by his stablemate before drawing clear to score by a comfortable margin. Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir puts pressure on AFL over ‘unsafe' SCG turf ahead of Sydney Swans clash
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has expressed concerns about the state of the SCG turf, saying he is worried his players will be put at an elevated risk of injury if they are forced to play there on Sunday. AFL bosses are weighing up the option of moving Sunday's Fremantle-Sydney game away from the SCG after players continually slipped at the venue in the Western Bulldogs' win over the Swans on Friday night. The surface has been below its best since a concert at the venue by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in April. Particular concern during the Swans-Dogs clash centred on the Paddington end of the ground. Between 35mm to 90mm of rain is forecast for Sydney on Tuesday in what will further hamper the hopes of having the SCG turf up to scratch. Fremantle's finals hopes last year were torpedoed by a series of injuries to key players late in the season, and Longmuir fears his team will be at risk if they have to play at the SCG on Sunday. 'I watched the game on Friday night, and we'll be led by the AFL, but the moment my brain goes to, 'That's unsafe for players', I have a concern,' Longmuir said. 'I thought it was a bit unsafe, especially down the left hand side.' Longmuir made mention of an incident in which Bulldog Bailey Williams' foot was caught in the turf. 'I think the Bailey Williams one — we just can't put players out there and risk their safety if the ground's not right,' he said. Longmuir says he will abide by the AFL's decision. 'If the AFL deem it safe to play, we'll play, and I won't speak another moment of it,' Longmuir said. 'The AFL approached us and they're going to look at it, like they should, and they've got the experts and will be guided by them. 'But I thought it was unsafe the other night.' Fremantle (10-5) are just percentage adrift of third spot following a six-match winning run. But their thrilling 11.15 (81) to 9.15 (69) win over St Kilda on Sunday came with an injury cost, and in a bizarre manner. Fremantle veteran Nat Fyfe was the sub, but he felt tightness in his calf while warming up at half-time and the Dockers decided against sending him on. Fyfe was set to feature in his fourth match back after recovering from a hamstring injury, and the Dockers will be hoping his latest setback isn't serious. 'It's a bit of a concern, of course,' Longmuir said. 'But we'll see how he pulls up, get it scanned if we need to, and see where it takes us. 'But from what I understand, it's pretty minor and we didn't have to bring him on.'
