Spanx's July Fourth Sale Includes Comfy, Celeb-loved Styles for Summer—Shop the 12 Best Finds From $39
My ideal travel outfit is something that's cute but comfortable—with an emphasis on comfortable. Spanx is one of my go-to brands for this very reason, since virtually every item of clothing strikes the perfect balance of flexibility and style. So when I saw the brand had dropped prices on hundreds of items up to 65 percent off ahead of July 4th, I jumped at the chance to fill out my travel wardrobe even more. From editor-loved compression leggings to sleek maxi dresses that can be dressed up or down, many bestsellers are marked down during this special Spanx sale. Whether you're jumping on a long-haul flight or taking a quick weekend trip, there are outfits for every kind of trip on sale. Several wide-leg pants are on sale, all of which can be worn straight from the plane to the hotel to dinner. There are also plenty of items from the iconic (and Oprah-approved) Spanx Air Essentials Collection that are priced down during the summer sale, from half-zip jackets to chic jumpsuits. I've rounded up some of the best deals I've seen on Spanx pants, leggings, tops, and more, with items starting at just $39. As someone who lived in skinny jeans and leggings for most of my life, I've fully embraced the wide-leg pant trend. The AirEssentials Wide Leg Pants, on sale for 19 percent off, are one of the best options for long travel days because they're ultra comfortable while maintaining some shape, so you still feel put-together. These travel pants are made from lightweight, breathable fabric that drapes oh-so-perfectly along the legs and doesn't wrinkle easily, even after a long flight. The AirEssentials Half Zip is a dream for frequent travelers, offering the coziness of a sweater with the practicality of a zip-up jacket. You can grab it now for a whopping 58 percent off, and embrace the sporty style and relaxed fit that's perfect for long travel days on planes and trains. And, as with other products in the AirEssentials line, it's made with lightweight, wrinkle-resistant materials that keep you looking and feeling polished all day. It's one of those pieces you'll reach for every time you pack for a trip. Made with smooth, stretchy fabric, the Spanxsmooth on the Move Wide-leg Pant (on sale for $119) can easily go from casual to a bit more dressed up—which means you can pack less in your suitcase. The thick, high-waisted waistband is also flattering and comfortable, and can be comfortably paired with crop tops, even if you don't want to show too much skin. The pants also have built-in UPF 50+ sun protection to reduce the need for sunscreen on your legs during your summer vacation. Keep things simple with the Spanxsmooth Jersey Crewneck Tee, which is made from soft, stretchy fabric that has a smoothing effect all over. The result is a flattering, comfy tee that resists wrinkles and holds its shape all day. Whether you're pairing it with joggers for a travel day or tucking it into trousers for a day in the office, it's the kind of versatile basic you'll reach for again and again. Right now, the colors Sky and Cerulean Blue are both on sale for up to 33 percent off the original price. These cargo joggers are built for movement, and at just $69 during the Fourth of July sale, they're perfect for travelers who like to hit the ground running on vacation. They have a modern, sporty look and are made with sweat-wicking fabric that has UPF protection, making them a great option for more active days with hiking or walking involved. The cargo pockets are also practical for storing small essentials like a phone or passport without adding extra bulkiness. Like many Spanx pants, these bottoms come in regular, petite, and tall sizes, helping you find the pair that works best for you. If you're more of a dress person, don't miss your chance to grab the AirEssentials Maxi Dress for just $69—over 45 percent off the regular price. The buttery-smooth fabric feels amazing against your skin and will keep you cool and comfortable whether you're on a flight or heading to dinner. The relaxed silhouette keeps things breathable while remaining flattering, and it makes this dress easy to accessorize with a belt, jacket, or jewelry. Pair it with sneakers for a day of sightseeing or heels for a fun night out. The timeless fit of this oversized button-down (currently 30 percent off) makes it a no-brainer buy for your travel capsule wardrobe. It's polished and effortlessly cool, whether it's tucked into jeans for a business meeting or worn as a swimsuit cover-up. It's made from 100 percent cotton with a superfine yarn count that keeps it lightweight yet durable, so it will stand up to the wear and tear of travel. It's also machine-washable (read: easy to clean) and has a high-low shirttail hem that looks great tucked or untucked. Spanx's Booty Boost 7/8 Leggings are some of our favorite compression leggings for travel, thanks to an ultraflattering fit and gentle compression that keeps the blood flowing during long periods of sitting. On sale for 30 percent off, these leggings are made with targeted shaping and a contoured waistband to lift in all the right places. They're also sweat-wicking and breathable, so they're perfect for flights and long travel days. Plus, a hidden pocket in the waistband can fit a key, credit card, or even a small phone, so you can wear these on your morning jog before a day of sightseeing. No matter where I'm traveling, I almost always pack a crewneck sweatshirt because it's versatile and comfy. The AirEssentials Crewneck is more chic than most of the options I have at home, made with lightweight, soft fabric that drapes slightly for a polished look. On sale for $79, it can be worn on chilly flights, tossed over a dress on cooler evenings, or paired with leggings for a casual travel day look. Wrinkle-resistant and machine-washable, it's a great choice for any trip where comfort and style both matter. Made with the same featherweight materials as other AirEssentials clothing, these tapered pants are another great option for travelers. The tapered leg is tailored, not tight, and has a modern silhouette that flatters without clinging uncomfortably. In terms of style, they're a bit nicer than joggers but don't feel as professional as trousers—the perfect happy medium for someone who wants the option to dress things up or down. Get them at a massive 46 percent off discount ahead of the Fourth of July. These stylish micro flare pants feel like your favorite pair of leggings with a stylish twist. What makes them stand out is the built-in tummy compression, which provides gentle shaping and a smooth, flattering fit that doesn't feel tight or restrictive. On sale for 30 percent off, these also have a subtle flare at the hem that adds an elongating silhouette—yes, flare pants are back in style! While the fabric leans on the sporty side, you could pair these with boots or even heels to dress them up or down. The pull-on waistband also makes them easy to slip on and off for last-minute outfit changes in the airport restroom. Score 50 percent off the AirEssentials V-neck Mini Dress and get a packable, wrinkle-resistant dress that has a modern look perfect for just about any setting. It's great for travel days when you want to feel put-together with zero effort. Throw it on with sneakers for browsing museums, add a belt and sandals for brunch, or layer it with a jacket and boots for cooler evenings. The relaxed fit and V-neck give it a casual-chic vibe while the mid-thigh length keeps it playful and easy to style based on where you're going next. Love a great deal? Alligator Alcatraz in the Florida Everglades: Videos of ICE detention center in Ochopee
What is Alligator Alcatraz, and what does it look like? Alligator Alcatraz, the immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades, had a special visitor July 1 − President Donald Trump. It marked the first visit back to his home state in two months. Championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and State Attorney General James Uthmeier, the state transformed the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport in Ochopee into Alligator Alcatraz in a quick turnaround (see below). Florida's Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center was previously a 39-square-mile airport facility with a 10,500-foot runway to temporarily detain 'illegal aliens.' However, not everyone is on board with Alligator Alcatraz. Since ground broke at transforming the lone airport strip into the ICE detention center, environmental groups have protested against Alligator Alcatraz. Some stats about Alligator Alcatraz, Florida's ICE detention center, as of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, or 'opening day': maximum capacity of detainees: 3,000 Alligator Alcatraz staff members: 1,000 Alligator Alcatraz security personnel: more than 400 There is a legal service on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once known as 'Dirty Myrtle,' Myrtle Beach is now the fastest-growing US metro for seniors
A South Carolina beach town once nicknamed 'Dirty Myrtle' because of its rowdy nightclubs and strip joints has become a magnet for retirees in a nation that continues to age. The number of residents age 65 years and older in the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area grew by 6.3% last year, making it the fastest-growing metro area for senior citizens in the U.S., according to population estimates the U.S. Census Bureau released last week. During the 2020s, Myrtle Beach's senior population has grown by more than 22%, also the fastest rate in the United States this decade. Senior citizens now make up more than a quarter of the around 413,000 residents in metro Myrtle Beach, which once was known for being a budget beach destination. The community with a mile-long boardwalk and 200-foot Ferris wheel used to attract biker rallies which the city tried to end in the late 2000s because of the noise, traffic and rowdiness. But now the noisy streets have had to make room for quiet diners and pickleball courts. The COVID-19 pandemic played a role in the area's senior boom as people in such places as Ohio and New York who had been vacationing for years in Myrtle Beach realized they could retire early or work from home anywhere, said Mark Kruea, a longtime public information officer for Myrtle Beach who is now running to be mayor. 'Many people converted that thought into action,' Kruea said. 'The climate's great, taxes are low, there's a wealth of opportunities for recreation, dining and shopping.' A graying United States The U.S. population age 65 and older rose by 3.1% last year, while the population under age 18 decreased by 0.2%. In the past two decades, seniors have increased from 12.4% to 18% of the U.S. population, while the share of children has dropped from 25% to 21.5%, according to the population estimates. Maine, Vermont, and Florida were the only three states where older adults outnumbered children as recently as 2020. But four years later, those states were joined by Delaware, Hawaii, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia. Maine last year had the oldest median age at 44.8, while Utah's was the youngest at 32.4. Groups that saw the most growth The share of the U.S. population that is Hispanic reached 20% last year for the first time, helped by an annual gain of 1.9 million Hispanics mostly through migration. In pure numbers, the Hispanic population grew the most last year in the New York, Houston and Miami metro areas. When it comes to growth rates, the biggest gains were in smaller metros such as Ocala, Florida; Panama City, Florida; and St. Joseph, Missouri. For Black residents whose growth last year was split between migration and natural increase, the biggest gains were in the Houston, New York and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas in pure numbers. Bozeman, Montana, and Provo, Utah — metro areas with tiny Black populations to start with — were tops in growth rates. In pure numbers, the New York, Dallas-Fort Worth and Seattle metro areas had the biggest Asian population gains, and the growth came primarily from migration. The largest growth rates were in three metro areas with small Asian populations: Farmington, New Mexico; Bismarck, North Dakota; and Burlington, North Carolina. The non-Hispanic white population in the United States declined slightly last year, but it grew the most in the Nashville, Tennessee; New York and Charlotte, North Carolina metro areas in pure numbers. The biggest growth rates for the white population were in the Myrtle Beach; Daphne-Fairhope, Alabama; and Wilmington, North Carolina metro areas. The decline in the white population was driven by deaths outpacing births. ___ Follow Mike Schneider on the social platform Bluesky: @
