The Best Makeup for Hot and Humid Weather, According to a Professional Makeup Artist
Summer vacations are for exploring tropical destinations, lounging on sun-soaked beaches, and indulging in freshly caught seafood. Hot and humid locations, though, usually cause you to immediately sweat off any makeup you've put on. I want to look my best when I'm traveling, but all it takes is five minutes in the island sun to have my mascara running down my face. To help create a summer makeup routine that can withstand high temperatures all day—and night—long, I turned to Sephora's beauty director and professional makeup artist David Razzano for his best tips for heatproof vacation makeup.
The best makeup for hot, humid weather is long-lasting and practically weightless, allowing you to look and feel your best without needing to wear a ton of heavy products or worrying about it sliding right off. Razzano recently did my makeup using his tried-and-true warm-weather products and walked me through his best tricks for applying makeup that actually lasts. Below, a guide to lightweight, working-for-you makeup that will hold up in any hot and humid destination, whether you're island hopping around Greece, checking into a Caribbean resort, or just riding the New York City subway.
Before actually applying any makeup, prep your face with the right skincare that will help your products last longer. Step one: 'Get yourself a great hydrating spray,' says Razzano. 'Dont slug and slather because it's just going to feel really heavy.' A lightweight spray, like Summer Friday's Jet Lag hydration mist, added a nice base layer of moisture to my face while also cooling it down. 'Humidity is a great instance for a primer,' he says. Razzano added the One Size Secure the Sweat waterproof mattifying primer with his fingers to help the rest of my makeup lay nicely and stay put.
After some quick skin prep, it's time for the makeup. 'Use your concealer first because you don't want to put your liquids [makeup] on top of your powder—that's the rule of thumb,' says Razzano. Tower 28's Swipe All-Over hydrating serum concealer helps hide blemishes and brighten up my tired under eyes. Just when I thought Razzano was going to pull out a tinted moisturizer or a lightweight foundation, he surprised me. 'When you're in a hot and humid environment, nothing tops powder foundation—even if you have dry skin,' he says. A powder foundation? I thought this would feel heavy and look cake-y on my skin—but it was quite the opposite. I couldn't believe how weightless it felt on the skin, all while evening out my skin tone and blurring imperfections. 'A big, loose brush is going to give you a sheer coverage, while a smaller, compact brush will give a heavier coverage,' he says. After applying the powder foundation, Razzano recommends locking it in with another spritz of Summer Friday's hydrating mist—a.k.a. my newest summer essential.
Razzano is applying Milk Makeup's Waterproof Rise Lifting and Lengthening mascara on commerce editor Meaghan Kenny
'A bronzer is a great way to slowly add color back to the face,' says Razzano. He applied LYS Beauty's No Limits matte bronzer to the high points of my face that naturally get kissed by the sun—the top of my forehead, cheeks, and nose. This gave me a bronzy glow that's perfect for vacation. After adding a lightweight, clear brow gel, Razzano moved onto the eyes. He curled my lashes and applied a waterproof mascara. 'Your lashes are much more likely to fall and go straight when the air itself is heavier,' he says. Milk Makeup's Waterproof Rise Lifting and Lengthening mascara proved to be the star of the show. This was the product I nearly grabbed out of his hand to see what it was—my lashes have never looked that long or that full. And when I'm sweating in the heat or taking a dip in the hotel pool, I won't have to worry about this mascara running or flaking.
Kenny is wearing Cay Skin's lip balm with SPF
'The final step in the complexion that I would say is really important is a good setting spray,' says Razzano. He chose One Size's aptly named On' Til Dawn mattifying waterproof setting spray to lock in the makeup. And finally, a little pop of color: 'If you want something really easy, think of a tinted lip balm,' he says. Cay Skin's lip balm added a nice rosy pink tint to my lips and provides SPF 30 protection. Face sunscreen is a part of my daily skincare routine, but I never think to add SPF protection to my lips. It's safe to say this lip balm is now a must-have in my beach bag for on-the-go touch-ups. And voila! It was the perfect amount of makeup—it left me feeling confident and put together, while still being quick and looking effortless. And to my surprise, hours later, my makeup was still going strong—no creasing, melting, or caking in sight.
I've already adopted Razzano's heatproof makeup routine and will be wearing it constantly this summer, including on a trip to Scottsdale this July and long days spent down the Jersey Shore. You'll find these water-, sweat-, and heat-proof essentials in my makeup bag all summer long.

RIhanna and A$AP Rocky Coordinate Funky Collegiate Looks for Dior's Paris Show
The royal couple of Paris Fashion Week has arrived. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky made their entrance at the Dior Homme Spring/Summer 2026 this morning in coordinating funky, patterned looks. Rihanna once again proved she is the master of maternity style in a crisp white button-up layered under a pastel-green vest that was cinched with a single button—her growing baby bump creating the sweetest shrunken silhouette. She added another layer to the top via a black flower-embroidered cape with a silky blue and orange pattern on the inside, and finished the look with baggy gray pants and alien-esque shades with yellow-tinted lenses. Of course, it wouldn't be a Rihanna look without layers of jewelry, and this time, the Fenty Beauty founder added on strings of chunky pearl necklaces. Rocky went more cool and collegiate with his fit, though still coordinating his color scheme with Rihanna's. The rapper wore a sky-blue button-up shirt accessorized with a neon-green, blue, and red tie, and styled with classic blue jeans. He also carried a furry little beige purse seemingly made up of bunches of tassels. The couple, who is expecting their third child together, joined a starry list of VIPs at the fashion house's runway show. Sabrina Carpenter arrived in her own version of Dior's New Look, Donatella Versace was classic in a black dress and sky-high platforms, and Pharrell went casual in a sweatshirt, shorts, and a baseball cap. Psst! I'm about to let you in on a little-known secret: Amazon's Movers & Shakers section is an absolute treasure trove of hidden gems. I'm talking the best gel pens you've ever used, a Le Creuset alternative for under $50, and a spray-on facial serum that's quietly taking over TikTok. The Color Wow Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer, because it's time to leave the days of limp, lifeless hair behind. Just a few pumps of this applied to damp hair can help add volume without leaving behind a sticky residue. An Anua pore-clearing cleansing oil that's specifically designed to help regulate your sebum production and break down blackheads, making it a great option for all my fellow oily-skinned peeps. It also helps break down makeup, so you can finally stop wasting money on makeup-removing wipes! A Kitsch heatless hair curler — this will make you rethink everything you know about curlers. First of all, it's covered in satin to help reduce frizz and breakage. Secondly, instead of individual rods, this is simply one single long rod that you wrap your hair around on each side, then fold up like a headband. Let it sit for a few hours (or sleep with it on!), then admire your new bouncy curls! A satin-finish TirTir cushion foundation reviewers love for getting full coverage without the heavy, cakey feeling. It's designed to provide a radiant finish (hello, glass skin!) and reviewers say it pulls through on its long-lasting claims (up to 72 hours)! Or Laura Geller's Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Powder Foundation — swirling your brush in this compact will feel like whipping up an invisibility spell for uneven skin tone. It's racked up over 31,000 rave ratings, with many reviewers saying it feels super lightweight on the skin and doesn't settle in fine lines. A Nyx lip liner with a super creamy formula that reviewers say stays in place and actually stops your lipstick from bleeding. It comes in a variety of shades, from neutral browns to vibrant pinks and reds. Oh, and it's under $5, so you can experiment with a few different lip looks for the same price as one lip liner at Sephora. And a long-lasting Wet n Wild lipstick that'll cost you less than $2. Yes, you read that right — you can get a super pigmented lippie for less than the price of a McDouble. It's formulated with aloe vera for a silky-smooth feel on the lips, and there are more than 20 vibrant shades to choose from. Skip that $32 lipstick that's in your Sephora cart and pick up about 16 of these instead!! And!!! The Nyx Fat Oil lip gloss to douse your lips in hydrating raspberry seed oil while adding a super glowy shine and a light tint of color. Reviewers say this one combines the lightweight feel of a lip oil with the moisture of a heavier lip balm. Lattafa's Yara Tous — a summery spin on the mega-popular original Yara scent that went TikTok-viral, and reviewers say this might be the one time that the sequel lives up to the original! This one adds notes of coconut, mango, and passionfruit, so don't be surprised if you suddenly spend all day daydreaming about sipping piña coladas like a White Lotus character. E.l.f.'s hydrating Power Grip Primer that often gets compared to the Milk Hydro Grip, which is quite impressive considering its $10 price tag. Not only does it moisturize your skin with its hyaluronic acid, but the cooling gel-like texture is also specifically designed to grip your makeup and keep it in place. A satin bonnet so silky smooth it's inspired more than 10,000 reviewers to leave a 5-star rating. Those satisfied reviewers love that it's super soft (yes, the inside is also lined with satin!) and roomy enough for long hair. And all my fellow hot sleepers will be relieved to know it's breathable enough to wear all night long! A hydrating Cosrx repairing essence with 96% snail secretion filtrate, which provides a gentle dose of moisture that won't overwhelm skincare newbies. Reviewers mention seeing a reduction in dark spots and acne, and even people with oily skin find that it absorbs quickly and doesn't clog their pores. Who knew snails had the secret to glassy, glowy skin this whole time?! Biodance's Real Deep sheet mask — it works overnight to refresh your skin. No, really, it's designed to be worn while you sleep. Don't worry, it's transfer-resistant, so it won't leave a mess on your pillow! It's infused with hyaluronic acid to hydrate, collagen to maximize absorption and minimize the appearance of pores, and probiotics to strengthen the skin's barrier. Best of all, it turns transparent when your skin is done absorbing the serum, so you'll know when it's ready to take off. The iconic Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, which will have you waking up saying "new lips, who dis?" It's packed with murumuru seed and shea butter to make your lips feel silky smooth and vitamin C to protect your pout. It's racked up over 35,000 rave ratings so far, with many reviewers saying it takes care of flaky, dry skin overnight. The Unbrush — a TikTok sensation that probably has more fans than Addison Rae at this point. Reviewers with everything from 1a to 4c hair are raving over it, with many pointing out that it glides through hair effortlessly and detangles better than other similar options. So many parents say this is the only thing that makes brushing time bearable — so prepare to write the inventer of the Unbrush a personalized thank you for saving your mornings. A super convenient D'alba Piedmont spray-on serum to help you get that dewy ~glass skin~ glow in just a few spritzes — so it's perfect for all my fellow lazy skincare lovers. The secret is the Italian white truffle extract, which is meant to help hydrate and brighten. It's also formulated with niacinamide to help even out skin tone and hyaluronic acid for extra moisture. A CeraVe eye cream that uses the power of hyaluronic acid and ceramides to hydrate and smooth the delicate skin under your eyes, including fine lines. Just swipe it over any targeted areas you want to smooth, and it'll provide some seriously strong hold without any sticky residue. L'Oréal Paris Collagen Daily Face Moisturizer that might just give Charlotte Tilbury and her magic cream a run for their money 👀. Its star ingredient is collagen, which is meant to help plump the skin and smooth fine lines with continued use. Your wallet called me and asked me to personally recommend this to you. And ask that you step away from your Sephora cart. TruSkin Naturals vitamin C serum to give you that coveted ✨ glowy but not greasy ✨ look that'll have you feeling like a Winx fairy. It's packed with vitamins C and E and botanical hyaluronic acid to help fade dark spots and add a radiant sheen to your skin. It has 94,000+ rave ratings, with many reviewers saying it instantly brightens and absorbs quickly. A highly rated cream-to-powder eyeshadow that's not only super easy to use when you're in a hurry, but it'll basically pull your whole look together in just a few swipes. The texture is super creamy once you apply, making it a dream to spread and blend. But then, like magic, it transform into a waterproof powder finish that won't crease and fade on you halfway through the day. A pack of two dark-spot corrector soap bars packed with tons of vitamin C and turmeric — aka the ultimate superhero ingredients for potentially brightening and reviving dull skin. Reviewers have had luck using this on both the face and body — but we recommend giving it a patch test first on a small area to see how your skin reacts. All good? Then start sudsing away! A Boldify root touch-up powder so you can stretch the time between salon appointments. Just use the attached sponge to pick up some powder and rub it directly on any grays, or use it on your hairline to create a fuller appearance. Many reviewers say it's easy to blend with just your fingers, so you can ditch the brush if you want to! The ever-popular Revlon one-step hair dryer and volumizer with over 401,000 5-star ratings (😮) from Amazon customers. It'll dry your hair as you comb, meaning you can skip the blow-dryer and save a few minutes in your styling routine. The jaw-dropping before and after photos really speak for themselves. L'Oreal's illuminating Lumi Glotion you can use under your foundation to add some radiance or use by itself on the days when you just want a natural glow. It's infused with glycerin and shea butter for extra moisture, and you can even use it on your body because the glass skin look isn't only for your face! Reviewers are even saying the deeper shades can act as a replacement for Drunk Elephant's D-Bronzi drops. A bestselling eyebrow pencil with a helpful double-ended design. Many reviewers say this one is thin enough to make perfect hair-like strokes, yet still super sturdy (raise your hand if you've ever had a brow pencil break on you 🙋♂️), while others say it blends seamlessly and is great for brow beginners. Cerave's Resurfacing Retinol Serum — a super gentle and beginner-friendly way to finally add retinol to your skincare routine. What does retinol do? The work is mysterious and important. Just kidding, it's not mysterious at all: retinol helps speed up your skin's cell turnover process, which will help reveal plumper, smoother-looking skin while refining your pores and fading dark spots. Also, dermatologists are obsessed with it. A spray bottle of SoCozy Curl Spray Leave-In Conditioner filled with keratin and olive oil to keep your little one's hair free of tangles and easy to manage. It's technically designed for kids, but many adults say it works perfect for restyling their own hair on busy mornings! A cruelty-free lengthening Essence mascara that has a whopping 253,000 5-star ratings and some seriously impressive before and after photos. Oh, did I mention it's UNDER $5?! Some reviewers even compare it to expensive brands like Tarte 👀. Unlike other mascaras at premium price points, reviewers say this one doesn't easily clump or smudge throughout the day and is suitable for sensitive eyes.

Blurring Is The New Matte — & It's This Season's Softest Makeup Trend
All linked products are independently selected by our editors. If you purchase any of these products, we may earn a commission. It doesn't seem like that long ago our feeds were flooded with images of hyper-glowy skin that looked fresh (but never sweaty), with a healthy sheen. (Dewy makeup got so big, it even permeated pop culture; 'my skin is gleamin',' whisper-sang Ariana Grande in 2019's '7 rings.') Glow was the antithesis of the 'Instaglam' look that predated it in the mid-2010s; think heavy highlight and contour, a full-coverage base, and bold, matte lipstick. But if there's one thing we can count on, it's that trends come, go…and find a way of coming back again. And sure enough, one word has been popping up everywhere in beauty launches lately: Blur. It's not quite matte, but not quite glowy either. The blurred makeup trend occupies an interesting place between dualities that seems to be striking a chord these days. It delivers all the luminosity of dewy makeup with the diffused velvetiness of ultra-matte glam. 'The trend seems to be gaining momentum in response to the sharp makeup looks that have dominated social media for years,' makeup artist and Sephora Beauty Director David Razzano tells Refinery29. 'Bold black cat eyeliner, graphic eyeshadow, intense contouring, and ultra-defined lip lines are beginning to feel a bit dated and overdone.' In comparison, 'blurred' makeup has a 'fresh, effortless vibe,' per Razzano, that lends the skin a 'filtered,' poreless effect. (I never thought I'd say this, but was Maybelline Dream Matte of its time?) The more I thought about it, the less surprising the trend was. After all, digitally airbrushed skin via social media filters had given way to products like e.l.f.'s Poreless Putty Primer and Milk Makeup's (sadly discontinued) Blur Stick. But the 2025 version of blurred-finish products isn't just about poreless, diffused skin. Instead of bottling blur in primers and touchup products, the soft-focus effect has made its way into lipstick, blush, eyeshadows, and more. Ahead, get the scoop on how to wear blurred makeup from lids to lips — and the pro-approved products to get the look this season and beyond. Eyes When it comes to eyes, there are several ways to achieve a soft, diffused wash of colour. I personally find cream-to-powder eyeshadows like Glossier Skywash or Merit's new Solo Shadow the quickest, most foolproof way to get a blurred finish. 'The Sephora Collection PRO Eyeshadow Brush #18 is my go-to 'blurring brush' for both eyes and lips,' says Razzano. 'It has a small domed tip, which can be used to blur eyeliner or lipstick out – just gently sweep on the edge of any area.' (Australian Sephora doesn't currently have the #18 brush, but you can sub this with any fluffy blending brush, like the Fenty Precision Blending Brush 230.) Skin When I hear 'blurred makeup,' I first think of a soft, creamy complexion resembling something from a Vermeer portrait. Foundations like R29's Beauty Innovator Award-winning Huda Beauty's Easy Blur and Revlon Serum Tint are great options for one-and-done coverage with a petal-soft finish. You can also achieve a beautiful, blurred effect with your finishing products. Razzano loves Kosas' Cloud Set Baked Setting & Smoothing Powder for lending a soft veil that reduces shine, not glow. 'I'm obsessed with this powder! It sets your makeup in place while delivering an ultra-soft blurring effect, all while maintaining a natural, radiant finish,' he says. 'This powder works particularly well when it comes to setting concealer — it blurs out fine lines and wrinkles, without creating dryness under the eyes.' Cheeks The blush craze shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, and the latest launches all seem to have blur as a priority. There's the Dua Lipa-fronted YSL Beauty's new Make Me Blush, which comes in eight candy-coloured shades and contains squalane to lend an optical blurring effect on skin. One favourite our editors love was the Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush, famous for its longwear properties and beautiful pigmentation. Another fave comes in the form of Danessa Myricks' Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder, which also happens to be among my most-used products as well. 'This formula is nothing short of pure brilliant beauty innovation,' Razzano declares. 'Danessa created a hydrating balm-to-powder that instantly blurs the skin, while maintaining a hyper-natural look and feel. Plus, she has carried this formula into blushes and highlighters – so you can blur and add glow simultaneously.' On the bronzer side of things, Makeup By Mario's SoftSculpt Blurring Bronzer offers the same sun-kissed glow you'd get from a bronzing powder with ingredients like spherical powders that provide an optical blurring effect. Lips Make it a season of blurred kisses with products that have a soft, romantic finish that's never dry or flat. ' Refy's Blur Liner boasts a domed tip, creating a natural, soft, and blurred look — an easy step in your routine,' Razzano explains. He also loves Prada Beauty's Monochrome Soft Matte Blur Lipstick, which has the creamy texture of your favourite lippie but with a velvet finish. 'No need to perfectly line your lips, since it softly blurs itself,' he says. 'A few taps of your finger will blend it to perfection.' We also love Rhode's Peptide Lip Shape crayons, which come in a variety of beautiful neutral tones with a soft matte finish.
