Officials said that the Akhal forest exchange of fire between security forces and militants which had started on Friday evening continued till Sunday noon.
'The firing between the two sides continued from Friday to Sunday noon. Now it has stopped and searches are going on in the forest area,' said an official of the police control room, Kulgam on Sunday evening.
He said that one body of the slain militant has been recovered so far.
'One body was recovered on Saturday morning and after that the firing continued again. After the firing stopped around noon on Sunday, the searches were conducted by the security forces but no other body has been recovered so far. Only one body recovered in the three-day operation,' he said.
Earlier on Friday, a joint operation by the army, police and other security forces was started after information about the presence of militants in the Akhal Kulgam area in south Kashmir. As the militants targeted security forces, an exchange of firing started which continued intermittently.
'Intermittent and intense firing continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far,' army's Chinar Corps said on Saturday.
The encounter comes days after three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Dachigam forests of Srinagar on July 28. The trio was responsible for the massacre of 25 tourists and a local tourist guide in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on April 22.

2 narco smugglers held, drone, heroin recovered

Amritsar: In two separate incidents, the Border Security Force ( BSF ) troops have arrested two narco smugglers in Tarn Taran and also recovered a drone in Ferozepur. A BSF spokesperson informed here on Sunday, early this morning, the troops launched a search operation near Kalsian village in Tarn Taran after detecting drone activity in the area. During the operation, two smugglers, hiding in a paddy field, were apprehended. Based on their disclosure, a packet of heroin weighing approximately 610 grams — wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, indicative of a drone drop — was recovered from a nearby irrigated field, said the spokesperson. In a separate operation Saturday evening, the BSF troops recovered a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone from a farming field near Barreke village in Ferozepur district. This is not the first time the BSF has made some seizures. In fact, several attempts have been made by Pakistani smugglers to send over drugs and firearms from across the border with the help of drones. While anti-drone technology has helped thwart such attempts by Pakistani smugglers, they continue to carry out the illicit activity. They often rope in people living along border villages in India to distribute their contrabands forward, according to security agencies. SHOCKING! This Muslim nation slaps terror charges on 7-year-old boy for sharing video of..., name is..., not Saudi Arabia, UAE

Representational Image Balochistan Independence: In a despicable case of human rights abuse, Pakistan Army officials have slapped terror charges on a 7-year-old boy in Balochistan after he shared a video of a human rights activist on his YouTube channel. What is the child accused of? According to details, the child, a native of Turbat in Balochistan, uploaded a video of rights activist Gulzar Dost on the video-sharing platform, following which a case was registered against him by Pakistani military officials under anti-terrorism laws. The shocking case has sparked outrage in Balochistan, as well as across Pakistan, with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) condemning the incident, calling it a gross misuse of anti-terrorism laws and blatant abuse of power by the country's armed forces in the conflict-torn region. How human rights watchdog responded? 'The registration of an FIR under anti-terrorism laws against a 7-year-old minor child in Turbat, Balochistan is highly reprehensible and a serious violation of human rights. The move is not only contrary to the spirit of the law but also in gross violation of national and international obligations related to the protection of children. Terming the mere sharing of a video as terrorism shows a blatant misuse of power,' the HRCP said in a statement. The rights watchdog has raised serious concerns about child rights and the legal obligations of the Pakistani government to protect them, urging Islamabad to take a serious cognizance of the matter, and introduce reforms. Calling the situation in Balochistan 'worrisome', the HRCP has demanded the revocation of the FIR against the child, and asked for protection to the family from harassment and abuse by Pakistani military officials. Court extends police custody of Mahrang Baloch, other BYC activists Meanwhile, in yet another move underscoring Pakistan's continued repression of peaceful Baloch activism, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta on Saturday extended the police custody of Mahrang Baloch and several organisers from the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) for another 20 days. The order was issued despite growing criticism from rights advocates and legal experts over the ongoing detention. According to Dawn News, the court's latest decision comes after several months of repeated extensions in the detention of Mahrang and other BYC leaders, who were arrested in March following a protest against alleged enforced disappearances.
