Indian NSA Doval, Russian Security Council's Dy Secy reiterate importance of taking forward bilateral cooperation
During the meeting, NSA Doval and Veneiktov discussed issues of bilateral, regional and international significance, according to the statement shared by the Indian Embassy in Beijing.
In a series of posts on X, the Indian Embassy in Beijing stated, "H.E. Aleksandr Venediktov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, called on NSA Shri Ajit Doval today on the sidelines of the 20th Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries in Beijing."
"The two sides discussed issues of bilateral, regional and international significance. The Russian side conveyed that they were looking forward to receiving NSA Doval in Russia for the next round of the Strategic Dialogue at an early date," it added.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Beijing wrote, "Both sides reiterated the importance of taking forward their bilateral cooperation based on the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership in line with the vision of the Leaders."
On Monday, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing and reviewed recent developments in India-China relations and underscored the need to promote the overall development of the bilateral ties, including by fostering greater people-to-people ties.
During the meeting on Monday, NSA Doval emphasised the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain peace and stability in the region. The two leaders also spoke about other bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest, according to the statement shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
In a statement shared on X, MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "NSA Ajit Doval met Chinese FM Wang Yi in Beijing today. Discussions focused on bilateral, regional & international issues of mutual interest."

CII expects Indian Economy to grow in the range of 6.4-6.7% in FY26
New Delhi: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday said that it sees India's economy growing at a pace of 6.4-6.7 per cent in 2026-27, boosted by strong domestic demand. At a press conference in New Delhi CII President however believes that geopolitical uncertainty could pose downside risk to Indian economic growth. Amidst this global flux, India has shown resistance and has shown better growth trajectory as compared to other major economies such as China, United Kingdom (UK), US and Euro area. Industry body CII also proposed a series of next-generation reforms needed to enhance ease of doing business in India. These reforms span across multiple domains, including taxation, manufacturing costs, fiscal policy, environmental compliance, and logistics. On GST reforms, CII recommends rate rationalisation from 5 slabs of current rates to three slabs. Essential items at 5 per cent, luxury and sin goods at 28 per cent, and a unified rate of 12-18 per cent for other items. CIIs other recommendations include streamlining of Input Tax Credit (ITC) to eliminate credit blockages, coordinating audits across states, and reducing litigation through a National Appellate Authority. The Industry body also proposes bringing petroleum, electricity, and real estate under the GST ambit. CII also asked for direct tax reforms, it recommends implementing the Income Tax Bill to simplify processes and reduce litigation. Measures such as Advance Pricing Agreements and Dispute Resolution Schemes should be encourage to avoid legal delays. For Customs Duty reforms, CII proposed a 3-tier structure, 0-2.5 per cent for raw materials, 2.5-5 per cent for intermediates, and 5-7 per cent for final goods to streamline imports and enhance competitiveness. Under Rationalising Cost of Manufacturing, land reforms suggest reducing over 50 zoning categories to 5-7 for more flexible land use, easing urban restrictions, and unlocking land held by PSUs. In power sector, CII advocates tariff rationalisation, digitisation of distribution, and improved grid transmission.

US student visa applications have opened, says State Department official
Washington DC: US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mignon Houston on Wednesday (local time) stated that student visa applications for the United States are now open and encouraged students to apply, while underlining that all visa decisions are taken keeping US national security in mind. Speaking to ANI, Houston said, "Our student visa applications have opened, students can apply and submit their application but what we want students to understand when they're applying for that visa, we want them to understand that we want to see a use of that visa that is in line with their application and the students come to the United States and study and not obstruct students from studying in class, not to vandalize campuses." She added, "Every decision we make is a US national security decision. We have these policies with the US immigration law to ensure that we are holding the highest standard for US immigration... not only to protect US citizens but also the other students studying here..." US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mignon Houston also told ANI that India is an "essential partner" for Washington in the Indo-Pacific region, as talks continue for a bilateral trade agreement between the two nations. Speaking to ANI, Houston underlined the United States' aim of establishing a "fair and reciprocal" trade relationship with its partners, in line with the Trump administration's "America First" agenda. "We want trade that is fair and reciprocal. Working closely, India is an essential partner in the Indo-Pacific and the Quad. We expect that all our partners understand why this is so important to the 'America First' agenda, that we look for trade policies that have a fairness, reciprocal, balanced way to ensure that all parties benefit," Houston told ANI. She defended the Trump administration's decision to impose tariffs, saying unfair trade practices had harmed American farmers and industries. "I can say writ large as it relates to the United States' position that these tariffs are a way for countries to meet us at a place of fairness. The United States has an open economy, but there are unfair trade policies that have impacted US farmers and industries," she said. Talks between India and the US on a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) are underway, with a July 9 deadline fast approaching. The deadline marks the end of a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariff hikes. On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said that a trade deal between India and the United States was likely soon and promised reduced tariffs. "I think we are going to have a deal with India. And that is going to be a different kind of a deal. It is going to be a deal where we are able to go in and compete. Right now, India does not accept anybody in. I think India is going to do that, and if they do that, we are going to have a deal for much less tariffs," Trump said. Meanwhile, India has taken a firmer stand on agricultural issues as the negotiations continue. According to government sources, India's negotiating team, led by Chief Negotiator Rajesh Agrawal, has extended its stay in Washington. The trade talks were initially scheduled for Thursday and Friday but were extended as both sides work to finalise an interim agreement before the July 9 deadline. A senior official warned that failure to reach an agreement would result in the return of a 26 per cent tariff structure that had been temporarily suspended for 90 days. These tariffs were first imposed during the Trump administration on April 2. "The failure of these trade discussions would trigger the immediate reimplementation of the 26 per cent tariff structure," the official said.

Oman expresses sympathy with India over chemical plant explosion
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has expressed its sympathy with the Republic of India over the explosion at a chemical plant in the southern state of Telangana. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed Oman's sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the government and people of India, as well as to the families of the victims.
