Storm-chasing couple gets engaged during breathtaking tornado in South Dakota, pictures go viral: ‘This is so epic'

A storm-chaser couple is winning hearts on social media after they got engaged in front of a stunning tornado in South Dakota. Bryce Shelton and Paige Berdomas, longtime internet friends with a love for extreme weather, turned their shared passion into an ideal proposal on June 28.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Berdomas shared details of their relationship timeline. The couple met on X years ago and were already in a relationship. They became good friends and eventually developed feelings for each other after breaking up with their respective partners. 'We became friends in the weather Twittersphere a couple of years ago,' Berdomas said.
'We got to know each other online and were really good friends. After other relationships we were each in ended, we became even closer. Last June, we decided to meet up for the first time to go on a storm chase,' she said.
Though they had chased the same storms in Iowa previously, their timings did not align until last summer. 'We started making YouTube videos together. Our chasing style is similar and we like interacting with other people on YouTube,' Berdomas shared.
Shelton shared that he has been planning the proposal for 18 weeks. He secretly bought the engagement ring and carried it along. 'I've been waiting for 18 weeks now, just for the perfect opportunity. I wanted to do it in South Dakota in front of a photogenic tornado, because South Dakota is our favorite state, both of us. And it just worked out perfect,' he said.
'We were travelling together and late in the day, storms started getting interesting,' Berdomas recalled. 'I had no idea about the proposal at all. It was just business as usual. I don't know how he kept it from me because we're always in the same truck, in the same hotels, together all the time,' she added.
'We were watching the wall cloud form and then we saw a funnel and we were talking to our stream and everything,' Berdomas said. That's when Shelton casually suggested they take a photo together and went down his knees and proposed to Shelton.
