Channel 4 The Couple Next Door Series 2: Full cast list

Series 2 will focus on Annabel Scholey's Charlotte, a heart surgeon, and her husband Jacob (Sam Palladio), a consultant anaesthetist.
From the outside looking in, they appear to be the perfect couple, but the arrival of mysterious new nurse Mia (Aggy K Adams) and the return of Charlotte's old flame Leo (Sendhil Ramamurthy) turns everything on its head.
A synopsis on the Radio Times says: "Leo's return sparks a change in Charlotte and Mia seizes the opportunity to work her way into Jacob and Charlotte's confidence, their street, and eventually even their bed, befriending cul-de-sac outcast Alan (Hugh Dennis) along the way.
"But it's not long before Mia's past comes back to haunt her, leading Charlotte and Jacob to question who she really is, especially when patients at the hospital start mysteriously dying.
"One thing is clear - giving in to their desires could have deadly consequences."
Hugh Dennis is notably the only actor from the first series to return, having played creepy neighbour Alan.

Discussing what's to come, writer David Allison shared: "The first series was about two couples that collided with each other – a square.
"Whereas this is more two love triangles... so the dynamic is really different.
"The other thing is this is about characters who are a little bit older. They're in their 40s – it's about a mid-life crisis and there's different things going on in those relationships as well."

The Couple Next Door finale review — the swingers go ludicrous

When I reviewed the first episode of The Couple Next Door (Channel 4) I wrote approvingly that it seemed as if it might be a little less crazed than series one and its swinger neighbours. That'll teach me. The finale was completely, utterly off its head. Watching it was like fever-dreaming after a night on the cheese and port plus a tab of LSD. Were we really expected to believe that Jacob (Sam Palladio), the mild-mannered, slightly dull anaesthetist, would turn overnight into a mad, conniving wife-killer because he feared being exposed for making a clinical error in not giving a patient potassium, which caused his death? Or something. Yes, Jacob probably would go to prison for framing the hot nurse Mia (Aggy K Adams) for it, but please. Would he really try to murder the love of his life just because she said she'd sussed him? He took her to the partly built new hospital wing and gave her coffee laced with morphine … in the middle of a busy day at work! Hello? What about cameras? And why were there conveniently no workmen there, even though the building was still being finished? 'It'll be over soon,' he said like a true baddie as Charlotte (Annabel Scholey) staggered like a shot stag and he used her phone to write a fake suicide note. • The Couple Next Door review — C4's hottest drama is still shameless 'You're having a breakdown!' she managed to say before passing out, a ludicrous bit of exposition. These four words supposedly explained his complete character change to instant psychopath. If this is what real hospitals are like — medics popping illegal pills and altering patient records, senior doctors having threesomes with the sexy new nurse from Norway — no wonder you can't get your hip replacement. This scene was even more preposterous than the one earlier in the series when Charlotte passed out on the sofa after too much wine and Jacob and Mia had sex on a chair 2ft away when his wife could have woken at any second. What a pity Alan the pervert (Hugh Dennis) didn't have his telescope out that night. The content would have sustained him for weeks. Actually I'll say this for The Couple Next Door, which is based on the Dutch series Nieuwe Buren: there aren't many series that would make the local peeping Tom the hero and have his voyeurism save the day. If he hadn't been training his big instrument on Mia in her house, he wouldn't have seen that she was being terrorised by her former therapist, with his terrible man bun and who had abused her as a traumatised teenager, and managed to save her. Dirty old man in woolly hat comes good! Actually, Alan was the best character in it, having been in the first series a completely unlikeable perv who treated his wife selfishly. In this series he found his redemption by showing shame, contrition and genuine kindness to Charlotte's dementia-suffering father, Henry (Jeff Rawle). There was even a sniff of romance with Yvonne (Tanya Moodie) and the possibility that he would look after Henry while Charlotte went off to do good works in Mozambique (don't ask), presumably while Jacob rotted in jail, something she seemed to get over pretty sharpish. • Read more TV reviews, guides about what to watch and interviews Just when I thought it couldn't get any more ludicrous it ended with Mia in Antwerp working as a tour guide wearing a ridiculous wig and eyeing up the next couple she was going to seduce into a throuple. Hilarious. You're probably thinking: surely they can't wring another sex and swingers series out of Appleby Drive, Leeds? (Yes, I know it looks more like a suburb of LA.) Oh, I think they probably can. I just pray that next time it isn't the newly reformed Alan throwing his car keys in the fruit bowl.★★☆☆☆ Love TV? Sue Perkins 'touched inappropriately' by Orville the Duck on Light Lunch

Comedian Sue Perkins was allegedly touched by puppet Orville the Duck during her TV series Light Lunch, which she hosted with best pal Mel Giedroyc during the 1990s Sue Perkins' co-host has claimed she was touched by puppet Orville the Duck as she spoke out against the "Naughty Nineties". The comedian and former Great British Bake Off host, 55, claimed the famous green bird got handsy with her. ‌ Her best friend and co-star Mel Giedroyc, 57, spoke of the alleged incident on Channel 4 daytime show Light Lunch. They were hosting the programme together in 1997 when they saw that children's entertainer Keith Harris was invited on. ‌ He turned up with the giant green duckling, who wore a nappy. Mel recalled: 'We're back in the Naughty Nineties - woof! Weren't they naughty - they were a very naughty decade. ‌ 'The most memorable of all the lunches, we had three puppeteers with their puppets for lunch. We had Keith Harris with Orville, who got a bit naughty with Sue! Well, Orville did," she claimed on the Parenting Hell podcast. She added: 'Yes. Harris via Orville got a bit 'Naughty Nineties.'' Fellow comedian and podcast host Rob Beckett asked: 'He was nipping at the body?' Mel replied: 'Yes. There is a ruddy hand (in there)!' Josh Widdecombe added: 'They'd get away with it by claiming it was a grey area," to which Mel agreed as she said: "Exactly!" Keith, who died in 2015 aged 67, and the two other guests Roger de Courcey with Nookie Bear and Matthew Corbett with Sooty, were all allegedly captivated by Sue. Mel claimed: 'They were trying to get all over Perks's grill, she was the honey trap, I was just the fly buzzing round the edge rather desperately. They bloomin' loved Perks, all of them.' ‌ Sue and Mel met while studying at Cambridge University, where they launched their long-standing career together. In the 1990s, the comedy duo wrote for BBC Radio 4 show Weekending and created sketches for French & Saunders. They went on to host daytime shows Light Lunch and Late Lunch for Channel 4 between 1997 and 1998. Their series ended in 1999 and Mel insisted they have fond memories of Light Lunch. ‌ Mel even revealed there was plenty going on off screen as she admitted to snogging a runner on the programme. She said it was a then-unknown Dermot O'Leary as he was working one of his very first TV jobs. 'There was a lot going down - it should have been called Heavy Lunch," she teased. Mel and Sue returned to screens years later as the hosts of Great British Bake Off. They held the positions between 2010 and 2016 on the BBC. However, the pair quit in protest of the show's move to Channel 4 and would go on to host their short-lived chat show on ITV called Mel and Sue. The pair confessed they were "shocked and saddened" to discover the news of Bake Off's move and explained they "made no secret" of their desire for the show to remain where it was. The Mirror has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
