Intel Corporation INTC has partnered with Exostellar to make enterprise-grade AI infrastructure accessible in a cost-effective manner. Intel's partnership with this leading innovator in autonomous compute orchestration and cloud optimization, which leverages AI and ML technologies, is likely to deliver an end-to-end solution with support for quota enforcement, dynamic borrowing, fair queuing and priority-based scheduling. This, in turn, will bring cloud-like agility and efficiency to on-premises or hybrid infrastructure for a more competitive AI hardware ecosystem.The collaboration combines Intel Gaudi AI accelerators with Exostellar's advanced Kubernetes-Native AI Orchestration, Multi-Cluster Operator to enable customers to maximize utilization, control access and streamline the compute resources across teams and projects. It aims to empower organizations to build and scale AI initiatives faster, more efficiently and more cost-effectively by developing an open ecosystem with multi-vendor support that boosts ROI while maintaining flexibility.The Intel Gaudi 3 AI accelerator is poised to power AI systems with remarkable efficiency. Equipped with up to tens of thousands of accelerators interconnected through Ethernet, the Gaudi 3 accelerator promises a substantial boost in AI training and inference capabilities, enabling global enterprises to deploy AI at scale with ease. It boasts impressive performance metrics, offering faster time-to-train and superior inference throughput. Furthermore, Intel's commitment to open, community-based software and industry-standard Ethernet networking ensures flexibility and scalability for enterprises, allowing them to seamlessly integrate AI solutions tailored to their specific needs.
Intel remains on track with its 5N4Y (five nodes in four years) program to regain transistor performance and power performance leadership by 2025. Intel Xeon platforms have reportedly set the benchmark in 5G cloud-native core with substantial performance and power-efficiency improvements, additional power-saving capabilities and easy-to-deploy software. This has triggered healthy demand trends from major telecom equipment manufacturers and independent software vendors to optimize and unleash proven power savings for a more sustainable future.Intel has witnessed healthy traction in AI PCs, which have taken the market by storm and remain firmly on track to ship more than 100 million by the end of 2025. Panther Lake – the chip based on Intel 18A and the architectural successor to the well-received Lunar Lake – is slated to be launched in the second half of 2025, while Clearwater Forest – the first Intel 18A server product – is likely to be unveiled in the first half of 2026.
Despite AI chip traction, Intel has plunged 27.9% in the past year against the industry's growth of 24.3%, lagging its peers Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD and NVIDIA Corporation NVDA. While Advanced Micro has declined 13.6%, NVIDIA has gained 28.8% over this period.

Earnings estimates for Intel for 2025 have moved down 84.9% to 28 cents over the past year, while the same for 2026 has declined 68.2% to 74 cents. The negative estimate revision depicts bearish sentiments for the stock.

Although Intel has scaled its AI footprint, it seems to lag NVIDIA on the innovation front, with the latter's H100 and Blackwell GPUs being runaway successes. Leading technology companies are reportedly piling up NVIDIA's GPUs to build clusters of computers for their AI work, leading to exponential revenue growth. An accelerated ramp-up of AI PCs further affected the short-term margins of Intel as it shifted production to its high-volume facility in Ireland, where wafer costs are typically higher. Margins were also adversely impacted by higher charges related to non-core businesses, charges associated with unused capacity and an unfavorable product mix.

China accounted for more than 29% of Intel's total revenues in 2024, making it the single largest market for the company. However, the communist nation's purported move to replace U.S.-made chips with domestic alternatives significantly affected INTC's revenue prospects. The directive to phase out foreign chips from key telecom networks by 2027 underscores Beijing's accelerating efforts to reduce reliance on Western technology amid escalating U.S.-China tensions.Moreover, weaker spending across consumer and enterprise markets, especially in China, resulted in elevated customer inventory levels, resulting in soft demand trends. Strict export control measures are further likely to affect the market dynamics, leading to below-par revenue growth in the near term.
Intel has been facing challenges due to the disruptive rise of over-the-top service providers in this dynamic industry. Price-sensitive competition for customer retention in the core business is expected to intensify in the coming days. Aggressive competition is likely to limit the ability to attract and retain customers and affect operating and financial results.The road ahead for Intel is bumpy and strewn with daunting challenges, and how it navigates these roadblocks in the coming days remains to be seen. After years of lagging behind rivals like TSMC, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) has been trying to re-establish itself as a leading chip manufacturer – not just for its own products, but as a foundry for others as well. Its foundry strategy has so far revolved around its 18A process node, which was originally expected to launch next year. The 18A node is the fifth and final step in former CEO Pat Gelsinger's ambitious 'five nodes in four years' roadmap – a plan designed to rapidly reclaim process technology leadership. At one point, 18A was billed as the node that would give Intel 'unquestioned leadership' in the space. On the product side, Intel's next-generation PC chips, known as Panther Lake, are expected to arrive in the second half of this year, built on the 18A process. Server chips under the Clearwater Forest line are slated for 2026, with the possibility of onboarding external foundry customers sometime later next year. However, that focus might now be shifting. According to a Reuters report that cites 'unnamed Intel sources,' the company is considering pulling back on its foundry plans for the 18A process node in order to shift resources toward its next-generation node, known as 14A. That process is expected to enter risk production next year, with internal use slated for 2027. If true, the move could result in a writedown potentially amounting to hundreds of millions – or even billions – of dollars. The report suggests Intel would still fulfil limited 18A foundry commitments it has already made, but would largely pivot its foundry strategy to 14A going forward. While it's not clear yet whether the report is true, Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore believes that shifting the foundry focus to 14A wouldn't be 'economically disruptive, given low 18A expectations.' To some extent, Intel had already dialed back its ambitions for 18A, so the potential impact from the reported shift – and any associated writedown – appears 'minimal' to Moore. Even under the most optimistic outlook, prospective foundry customers were expected to start with small-scale projects to evaluate Intel's capabilities, meaning the capital tied to those efforts was always going to be modest. Management has consistently stressed that reaching breakeven on the foundry business doesn't rely heavily on external customers in the near term. 'So for 2025/26, none of this will have much economic impact,' Moore opined. That said, while the initial foundry projects were always expected to be small in scale, pushing their start out by a year or two would also delay any meaningful volume ramp. 'We are generally pessimistic about foundry contributing to profits in an investable time frame anyway, so it doesn't change our view that much, but we can see why foundry optimists saw this as a negative,' Moore said on the matter. And while Moore sees the value in Intel, he shares CEO Lip Bu Tan's view that this is a 'long path to recovery.' Accordingly, Moore stays on the INTC sidelines for now, maintaining an Equal-weight (i.e., Neutral) rating and $23 price target, suggesting the shares are fully valued. Intel jumps to HBM4 with Jaguar Shores, 2nd Gen MRDIMMs with Diamond Rapids

Intel and its partners revealed a number of new details about the company's upcoming products, such as Diamond Rapids CPUs for data centers as well as Jaguar Shores accelerators for AI at its AI Summit in Seoul, South Korea. Both products are set to rely on next-generation memory technologies, such as 2nd-generation MRDIMM modules and HBM4 stacks, according to Intel's next-generation Gaudi AI accelerator, codenamed Jaguar Shores — this is the first time Intel has confirmed that this processor will carry the Gaudi brand — will use HBM4 memory from SK hynix, according to a slide shown by the company at Intel's AI Summit. Intel's Jaguar Shores was intended to succeed the company's Falcon Shores GPU in 2026, but since the latter has been cancelled, the company's 2026 Gaudi accelerator for AI will be its first AI GPU since the ill-fated Ponte Vecchio. It is not particularly surprising that Intel's Jaguar Shores will rely on HBM4 memory in 2026, considering it needs high bandwidth to enable AI training and inference for advanced LLMs and LRMs. However, for now, it is impossible to determine how many HBM4 stacks Jaguar Shores will use, as we know nothing else about the product. Another product that we don't know much about is Intel's next-generation Xeon, codenamed Diamond Rapids. This CPU will utilize SK hynix's 2nd-generation 64 GB (16 GB-based) and 128 GB (32 GB-based) MRDIMM modules, although the primary difference between 1st Gen and 2nd Gen MRDIMMs is expected to be performance. Multiplexed rank dual inline memory modules (MRDIMMs) are memory modules that integrate two DDR ranks operating in a multiplexed mode to effectively double performance. To support this, each module includes additional memory devices, an MRCD chip for simultaneous access to both ranks, and MDB chips for multiplexing and demultiplexing data. The CPU communicates with the 1st Gen MRDIMM at 8,800 MT/s transfer rates, but future versions are expected to reach 12,800 MT/s. Internally, all components run at half the external speed, which helps reduce latencies and keeps power consumption under control. These lower latencies significantly improve memory subsystem performance. According to Intel and Micron, a 128GB DDR5-8800 MRDIMM delivers up to 40% lower loaded latency than a 128GB DDR5-6400 RDIMM. With 2nd Gen MRDIMMs, we can expect further performance bumps without significant latency increases. Neither AI nor E Ink can make touchscreen trackpads a good idea

E Ink, the company behind the highly readable displays you'll find in ereaders the world over, has created a new touchscreen trackpad for some reason. And rather than act as an extension of your laptop's screen, E Ink thinks it should be a dedicated home for AI interactions. The new touchscreen trackpad appears to use a color E Ink display, not unlike what you'll find on the Kobo Libra Colour or the Kindle Colorsoft, and is supposed to offer the normal swiping, tapping, dragging and clicking functionality of a normal trackpad. When you're not using it like that, E Ink imagines the trackpad offering "second-screen capabilities," like quick access to "frequently used shortcuts and system notifications and GenAI contents like text/image summaries, gaming tactics, or custom AI tasks." E Ink says it leveraged several different Intel technologies to prototype its AI tools, and it specifically designed the trackpad so it's useable even if your laptop is off. Unfortunately, that doesn't make the idea of cramming a touchscreen into a laptop trackpad any less whack. Using an E Ink display is novel, sure, but plenty of attempts have been made to turn the seemingly untapped resource of the trackpad into another place for content, and none of them have caught on. ASUS in particular has taken multiple bites at the apple with its ScreenPad feature, which it first introduced on the ZenBook Pro 15. The ScreenPad could be an extension of your main display, but it also ran simple apps and widgets. E Ink believes one of the advantages of its trackpad is that it'll consume less power than those previous versions, but was anyone worried about a laptop's trackpad affecting its battery life before they also had to be screens? Putting a display in a trackpad isn't going to be the reason anyone upgrades to a premium laptop. Beyond that, it's just not intuitive. You have to both learn to look down to see what's on the trackpad and learn not to cover it, something hands naturally do while using a laptop. If you're not dissuaded, E Ink hasn't actually shared when its trackpad will be available. Given the use of the Intel tech, though, odds are good it shows up in an expensive "AI PC" at some point in the future.
