DDCA Planning To Increase Number Of Teams In 2nd Edition Of Delhi Premier League
'The new DPL season will begin in the first or second week of August," he added.
Sharma mentioned that DDCA was pleased that many players who participated in the DPL last year had gone on to play in the Indian Premier League this year.
'A total of 14 cricketers (who competed in) DPL played in the IPL… players like Digvesh Rathi, Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya, among others," he said, adding that there were plans to give a boost to women's cricket as well.
DDCA recently launched a women's T20 tournament in which 41 affiliated clubs are participating. Sharma said DDCA plans to add two more women's teams by next year.
'Our apex council is giving special focus to women's cricket. If any (affiliated) club fields its women's team, it will be given Rs one lakh as subsidy and if they build their ground, then they will be give Rs 2.5 lakhs."
Sharma noted that the Arun Jaitley Stadium had undergone significant renovations and changes, resulting in improved facilities for players and spectators.
'We got a bad name sometimes when lights went off or the pitch wasn't in good condition. So, we renovated the stadium to provide better facilities. It was a proud moment for our apex council when we were given the 'Best Pitch Award in IPL', which is a big achievement," he added.
With the BCCI shifting the venue for the three-match women's ODI series between India and Australia in September-October from Chennai to Delhi and Mullanpur, Sharma said DDCA was committed to providing the best facilities for the players.
The matches were moved to Delhi and Mullanpur as the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is undergoing a revamp of the outfield and pitches.
'We will provide the best facilities (for the women's ODI here). We will have a lot of facilities to generate spectator interest. We have a good curator staff and everything is ready for Australia series," said Sharma.
The DDCA is also planning to send players for umpiring courses to further nurture cricketing talent.
'We want to send a few players from DDCA for umpiring courses." he said.

Appointment of IOA CEO to be ratified by EC, announcement likely on Thursday
New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) The long-standing bitter conflict within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is set to end with the majority of Executive Council members, who have been at loggerheads with president PT Usha, expected to ratify Raghuram Iyer's appointment as CEO. The warring EC members had refused to ratify Iyer's appointment made by Usha in January 2024, the bone of contention being the Rs 20 lakh per month salary for the CEO, along with other perks. A stormy Executive Council meeting in September 2024, which was virtually attended by an official of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), had failed to break the impasse. It has been learnt that a rapprochement is set to take place on the prodding of the sports ministry. 'The EC members have agreed to ratify Iyer's appointment and it's likely to be announced on Thursday," a source privy to the development told PTI. The warring EC members are meeting informally on Wednesday evening. A press meet has been called on Thursday, in which Usha and most of the EC members will be present. 'There will have to be at least a working relationships (between Usha and warring EC members), so a rapprochement process has started," an Executive Council member said. 'We are doing it for the good of Indian sport, especially in view of the fact that we are hoping to host the 2036 Olympics." There has been no Executive Council meeting since September 2024 and no Annual General Body Meeting since March 2023. After PT Usha's election as chief, the IOA took a long time to appoint a CEO mandated under the constitution. The process began only after the IOC's repeated warnings. But when the appointment was made, 12 EC members refused to ratify Iyer for the post. Usha had said that Iyer has been working without pay as his appointment is yet to be ratified by the EC. There have been allegations and counter-allegations from both the sides and the EC members even notified a no confidence motion against Usha last year only to be dropped later. The to-and-fro from the two sides, though, reduced after India submitted a formal expression of interest for hosting the 2036 Olympics towards the end of last year. India is currently in the 'continuous dialogue process" with the Future Host Commission of the IOC, despite a 'pause" on the process announced last month by the world body. Who Is Anshul Kamboj? CSK Star Who Once Bagged 10 Wickets In A Single Innings
Pacer Anshul Kamboj was handed his India debut for the 4th Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday. Kamboj, 24, was added to the team squad ahead of the 4th Test, after both Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh were ruled out of the contest owing to injuries. Kamboj's addition raised a few eyebrows, despite his impressive outing for India A against the England Lions in two side games prior to the Test series. He took five wickets across four innings at Northampton and Canterbury while moving the ball appreciably and finding disconcerting bounce on occasions. Who is Anshul Kamboj? Anshul was born in Karnal, Haryana, India on 6 December 2000. He is a medium pacer who can bat a bit as well. He is the 318th Test cricketer to play for India. Notably, Anil Kumble was the last Indian cricketer to make his Test debut in Manchester. Coincidentally, both Kumble and Anshul have a 10-wicket haul in an innings in First Class cricket. He made his First Classh debut for Haryana in February 2022 versus Tripura in the Ranji Trophy. Last year, he became the third bowler to take all ten wickets in an innings in the Ranji Trophy, doing so for Haryana against Kerala. So far, he has played 24 FC matches, picking up 79 wickets. Anshul was also a standout performer in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing among the top wicket-takers with 17 dismissals from 10 matches. His contributions helped Haryana lift their first title. Anshul made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2024, representing Mumbai Indians (MI), who bought him for Rs 20 lakh at the mega auction. However, he played just three games last season and was later revealed by the franchise. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had bought him for Rs 3.4 crore ahead of IPL 2025. He has played 11 IPL games so far, taking 10 wickets.
