The little known Scottish beach that is 'jewel in the crown of secret coast'
For those wanting a bit more peace and quiet, the Daily Record has chosen a hidden spot for our latest Walk of the Week. Each week, we choose one hike or beauty spot from around Scotland and shine a light on what makes it unique—and this time it is Kilbride Bay.
Also known as Ostel Bay, Kilbride Bay is a bay and beach situated in Argyll and Bute. It is located on the Cowal Peninsula, and is described by experts at Wild About Argyll as the "jewel in the crown of Argyll's secret coast".
Ostel Bay is among the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in Argyll, if not the whole of Scotland. The crescent-shaped beach, which is backed by dunes, offers incredible views out over the Firth of Clyde towards the north of the Isle of Arran.
To get to the beach, follow the B800 from Tighnabruaich and Kames to the village of Millhouse. After this, turn to the left and continue along until you arrive at Kilbride Farm, after which it is around a 15-minute walk beside fields to Kilbride Bay.
Thanks to its relative obscurity and large size, the beach never feels crowded—even at the height of summer. In fact, you may find that you are the only soul on Kilbride Bay when you visit.
The beach is a perfect spot for sunbathing, paddling, and swimming, so long as you don't mind the chilly waters. Meanwhile, visitors young and old will love walking up and down its length beachcombing for unique shells.
Once you are done exploring Ostel Bay, it is worth stopping over at The Bothy at Kilbride Farm. The café, which is located at the beginning of the track to the beach, serves up lunches, snacks, home baking, and more.

The 5.5 magnitude earthquake was especially felt in the towns of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar in the Axarquía region, as well in parts of Málaga city. A huge earthquake of a 5.5 magnitude has hit a popular tourist location in southern Spain this morning. The massive tremors were felt in more than 50 towns, including the big tourist region of Costa del Sol. The Axarquía region in southern Spain - home to Malaga city - saw most of the blast, especially in the towns Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar. The area often experiences earthquakes, due to the coasts of Spain, Morocco, Algeria and Italy lying on a fault line, reports the Daily Star. A tourist in the coastal town of Agua Amarga in Almeria told Spanish newspaper El País: "I was sleeping, and the whole house shook for a few seconds. "There was an incredible roar. It woke up my entire family and the neighbours in the complex." On the magnitude scale, quakes between 3.5 and 5.4 are typically felt by people, though they rarely cause major damage to structures. Anything under 6.0 rarely inflicts serious damage on well-built structures, though weaker buildings may see some minor cracks or effects. In fact, the strongest quake near Spain in the last decade has been magnitude 5.4, making one of that size fairly rare for the region. The magnitude of earthquakes are measured using scales like the Richter scale and the Moment Magnitude scale. Although the Richter scale is still sometimes used, modern seismology relies more heavily on the Moment Magnitude scale for accurate measurements of larger earthquakes. Last year locals in Gran Canaria were left startled after the island started rumbling at around 7:20pm local time on September 10. Seismologists declared it as the fiercest in 60 years. Itahiza Dominguez, who works as a director for the National Geographic Institute, confirmed the fact to the media. In several Spanish cities, such as Malaga, there has been a wave of protestors against tourists, with more than 15,000 protestors flooding Malaga's streets in June last year, riding the crest of anti-mass-tourism demonstrations across Spain during the summer. The scheme aims to stop drink or drug drivers getting on the roads when they return from holidays. Holidaymakers often take a drink on the plane on their way back, but even one bevvy can put them over Scotland's strict drink driving limit. Anyone who took drugs on holiday might still have them in their system when they return and get in their car. Plane passengers could also be suffering from "travel fatigue" after a long flight, especially with jet-lag and any delays along the way and make it more likely for them to have a crash and potentially kill others. The fear has seen the national force's Border Policing and traffic units team up to stop potentially dangerous drivers getting on the roads after a trip abroad. Border Policing Inspector Kelly Manson said: "We understand that for many, a drink on a flight can be part of the holiday experience. "However, the legal drink-drive limit in Scotland is strict, and the effects of alcohol, coupled with potential travel fatigue, can significantly impair a driver's ability to operate a vehicle safely. 'Operation Safe Landing is about ensuring everyone arriving at the airport gets home safely, without putting themselves or others at risk. "This pilot project will be evaluated with a view to rolling it out to other areas." Tragedy as body of boy, 15, pulled from Glasgow river after major police operation The trial scheme is being rolled out at Aberdeen Airport. It will involve a larger police presence at the airport, who will carry out checks on vehicles. They will also speak with passengers and even do booze and drug tests on drivers. Cops say the scheme has the potential to save lives on the roads and could be rolled out to other airports if it is a success. Road Policing Inspector Steve Manson added: "We are committed to prioritising road safety and our officers are out every day educating road users and carrying out enforcement. 'If you choose to drink alcohol on your flight, please make safe arrangements for your journey from the airport. 'Drink driving kills and seriously injures people. The decision can be life changing for you and the people around you. 'We're asking everyone to take responsibility and help us save lives.' Scotland's drink driving laws SCOTLAND has a zero tolerance approach to drink driving. The legal limit of alcohol in the body is so low that even ONE drink can put a person over it. The current limit is: 22 microgrammes (mcg) of alcohol in 100 ml of breath 50 milligrammes (mg) of alcohol in 100ml of blood 67 milligrammes (mg) in 100 ml of urine The penalties for drink-driving in Scotland include a minimum 12-month driving ban, a fine of up to £5,000, a criminal record and in some cases, a prison sentence. Scotland has some of the toughest drink driving laws, with a zero tolerance approach. Police Scotland nailed 8,568 drivers for being on the roads while drunk or on drugs in the past year. This has seen Operation Safe Landing welcomed by airport bosses. Robert Paterson, Head of Operations at Aberdeen International Airport, said: "We welcome the introduction of Operation Safe Landing by Police Scotland. 'Passenger safety is always a key focus for us, and this initiative supports that goal by encouraging responsible behaviour when travelling. 'We understand that holidays are a time to relax, but it's important that everyone considers how they'll get home safely. 'We're pleased to work alongside Police Scotland to help raise awareness and ensure Aberdeen International Airport remains a safe and supportive environment for all travellers."

Locals in a Scots town were also left stunned when he turned up at their local Motion Fitness gym. Regulars did a double take as the Hollywood superstar wandered in sporting a beard.
