Telangana BJP chief slams Congress over caste survey, calls it a political stunt
Questioning the Congress's sincerity towards the upliftment of backward communities, he asked, 'Why didn't it conduct a nationwide caste census during its 56 years in power?'
He said that the Congress-led UPA government had carried out a nationwide survey in 2011, spending over Rs 4,000 crore public funds, yet failed to release the findings.
'Even after such massive expenditure, the report was never published. What were they hiding?' he asked. Citing a similar case in Karnataka, Ramchander Rao noted that the Siddaramaiah-led government in 2015 spent over Rs 150 crore on a caste survey, the results of which also remain unpublished. 'Now, in Karnataka, the Congress is promising another survey. This pattern only shows their repeated betrayal of backward communities,' he added.
He described the caste survey conducted by the Revanth Reddy government as 'unscientific and flawed'.
Questioning the chief minister's intent, the BJP state president asked, 'If Revanth Reddy is genuinely concerned about the backward classes, why didn't his government follow due procedure during enumeration and while preparing the report?'
He also questioned the Congress government's failure to publish the data collected during the caste survey and give public access to the report. He accused the government of attempting to shift the blame to the BJP for the delay in the BC reservation bill.

Chandigarh: In a move that has reignited tensions over local governance authority, the Haryana urban local bodies (ULB) department has expanded financial powers for bureaucrats overseeing municipal bodies — sidestepping long-standing demands by elected mayors and council heads for greater administrative control. A notification issued last week grants municipal commissioners and executive officers significantly higher sanctioning authority for development projects, a shift that came just days after a national conference of urban civic bodies in Gurugram called for empowering elected local representatives. For more than a decade, mayors and presidents of municipal councils — many aligned with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party — have lobbied to approve development works independently. Instead, they now face further marginalisation, with expanded financial control handed to officers and finance committees. "Despite protocol ranking us above senior bureaucrats, we remain at their mercy," said a mayor from northern Haryana, requesting anonymity. In Gurugram, municipal commissioners can now approve development works up to Rs 2.5 crore (previously Rs 50 lakh). Projects worth Rs 2.5-10 crore will require approval from a finance committee chaired by the mayor. Projects above Rs 10 crore and Rs 25 crore will go to the ULB minister and the chief minister, respectively. In other municipal corporations, commissioners can now sanction works up to Rs 1 crore independently. Finance committees can approve up to Rs 10 crore, with larger projects routed to higher authorities in a similar tiered structure. Municipal councils and committees will follow the same slabs as smaller corporations. The move deepens concerns of elected civic heads being reduced to figureheads. "There were cases where mayors were unaware of final work orders despite chairing finance committees," said the northern Haryana mayor.

BJP has said that Bihar residents need not be worried about reports of Bangladeshi, Myanmar and Nepali citizens in Bihar's voters' list found by the block level officers (BLOs). The party clarified that no outsider would be allowed to cast their vote in the upcoming assembly elections. "Rohingyas, Bangladeshis, Burmese and Nepalis have been found in the voters' list. Biharis will vote in Bihar to elect the next government. There is no need for the voters of Bihar to be afraid," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told ET. "No outsider can cast their vote in Bihar. Being a border state, Bihar has had infiltration problems for many years. The ECI is verifying it now." Hussain said the Opposition has been trying to spread the rumour that Muslim votes would be removed from the electoral rolls . "This is baseless. Valid voters need not be worried. BLOs are visiting every house and genuine voters should present their credentials as sought by ECI. The Opposition in Bihar knows they have lost the election before voting.
