At a public meeting in Chennai to mark the 123rd birth anniversary of former chief minister K Kamaraj, Vasan said defeating DMK in the 2026 assembly election is the need of the hour.
"TMC will work to unite all parties that are against DMK to defeat the DMK govt in the 2026 election,'' he said.
The TMC president said the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state. "The only solution is to send DMK out of power," Vasan said.

Referring to the 'Makkalai Kaappom, Tamizhagathai Meetpom' campaign of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, Vasan said the campaign was turning out to be a success.
"The campaign will add further strength to our alliance," he said.
Vasan alleged that several Union govt schemes have not reached Tamil Nadu due to the DMK govt that is blindly opposing the BJP govt at the centre. "Tamil Nadu has not grown because of this," he said, adding that the next TN govt formed by their alliance will work in cooperation with the Union govt.
"If we want 100% growth for Tamil Nadu, we need to have a smooth relationship with the Union govt," Vasan said.

The Congress on Sunday (July 27, 2025) slammed the Narendra Modi government over vacant reserved posts for SCs, STs, and OBCs in central universities and alleged that the "not found suitable" clause was being "weaponised" against these categories to deny them fair employment opportunities. Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh cited a written reply in Parliament by Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar last week to attack the government. In his reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on July 23, Mr. Majumdar said that for the post of professor, out of 308 seats reserved for the SC community, 111 had been filled; out of 144 seats for the ST community, 24 had been filled, and out of 423 seats, 84 had been filled. For associate professor, out of 632 posts for SCs, 308 had been filled; out of 307 posts for STs, 108 been filled; and out of 883 posts for OBCs, 275 had been filled. For assistant professor, out of 1,370 posts for SCs, 1,180 had been filled; out of 704 posts for STs, 595 had been filled; and out of 2,382 posts for OBCs, 1,838 had been filled, the Union Minister had said. In a post on X, Mr. Ramesh said that in its reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the Modi government has revealed the staggering level of vacancies among SC, ST, and OBC reserved faculty positions in central universities. '80% positions for OBCs, 83% positions for STs, and 64% positions for SCs at the professor level are vacant. In the general category, the vacancies are 39%. 69% positions for OBCs, 65% positions for STs, and 51% positions for SCs at the associate professor level are vacant. In the general category, the vacancies are 16%,' he said. "23% positions for OBCs, 15% positions for STs, and 14% positions for SCs at the assistant professor level are vacant. In the general category, the vacancies are only 8%," he added. While the government has claimed that it does not centrally collect data on the prevalence of "not found suitable" (NFS) during the recruitment for faculty positions, the data is unequivocal, Mr. Ramesh said. The distinctly higher level of vacancies among reserved positions as compared to general category positions clearly points to a much higher prevalence of NFS for these candidates, he contended. "This is clear evidence of the issue that @Rahul Gandhi has raised -- that NFS is being weaponised against SC, ST, and OBC candidates to deny them fair employment opportunities and to subvert the Constitutional provision for reservations in public employment," Mr. Ramesh said. Mr. Gandhi on Friday also attacked the Modi government over vacant reserved posts for SCs, STs, and OBCs in central universities and said this is not just negligence but a "well-planned conspiracy" to keep "bahujans" out of education, research and policies. He had demanded that all such vacant posts be filled immediately and 'Bahujans' be given their rights, not "Manuwadi boycott".

CPM accuses Union govt of neglecting working class, favouring corporates
Mysuru: CPM state executive secretary U Basavaraj on Sunday accused the Union govt of adopting pro-corporate friendly policies, neglecting the interests of farmers, labourers, and other working-class people in the nation. The Union govt is giving a red carpet welcome to corporate houses, while the common people were affected by inflation and the rise in prices of essential commodities, he stated. District CPM secretary Jagadeesh Soorya urged the govt to strengthen govt-run institutions, schools, and public sector banks, besides initiating measures to prevent farmer suicides, and to open govt-run engineering, law colleges, and Mohalla clinics.

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin discharged from Chennai hospital after therapeutic procedure
Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin was discharged from a private hospital in Chennai on Sunday evening after undergoing a successful therapeutic procedure to treat variations in heart rate, the hospital said. After experiencing mild dizziness, the CM Stalin underwent medical examination and a procedure performed by a team of expert doctors.(PTI) On July 21, Stalin experienced dizziness during his morning walk and underwent medical examination, followed by a procedure performed by a team of expert doctors. According to the Apollo Hospital, where the CM was admitted, Stalin has been declared fit for discharge and has been advised to resume his regular activities after three days of rest. After experiencing mild dizziness. Even after being hospitalised, CM Stalin continued reviewing government programmes and initiatives from the hospital room, PTI news agency reported. He also underwent an angiogram earlier, after which no blockage was found in the blood vessels, senior DMK leader and Minister Duraimurugan told PTI. Apollo Hospital had earlier said that after performing several diagnostic tests, it was found that the giddiness was only due to some variations in the heartbeat. An angiogram was performed afterwards, which came out to be normal. Meanwhile, earlier on Sunday, CM Stalin had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting urgent demands related to education, infrastructure, railways, and the welfare of people in Tamil Nadu. In his petition, CM Stalin demanded that funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme be released and urged the Centre to implement railway projects that were sanctioned over a decade ago but still remain inactive. The petition emphasised the need for the centre's cooperation in implementing crucial projects and addressing long-pending issues. The petition sent to the centre, also raised strong concerns over the continued arrest and detention of Indian fishermen and the seizure of their boats by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to intervene and find a permanent diplomatic solution personally.
