Daily Mirror18 hours ago

The Shadow, a psychological thriller based on Melanie Raabe's novel of the same name, is now available to watch for free on Channel 4 after it was praised by viewers
Channel 4 has made all six episodes of the gripping crime drama The Shadow available for free, much to the delight of UK viewers.
The series, hailed as an unmissable addiction, is based on Melanie Raabe's 2021 novel and introduces us to journalist Norah, portrayed by Deleila Piasko, who seeks a fresh start in Vienna.

A stranger's eerie prophecy that she will murder a man named Arthur Grimm within six weeks haunts her upon arrival.

Despite initially dismissing the ominous prediction, Norah finds herself entangled in a web of memory gaps, anonymous threats, and mounting paranoia.
She is tormented by questions about her sanity, her capacity for murder, and the reasons behind these events, reports the Express.
Deleila leads a cast featuring Andreas Pietschmann, Luisa-Celine Gaffron, Vietha Luong, Julia Anna Grob, and Christoph Luser.
The show's blurb tantalises with: "Journalist Norah hears a prophecy that she will kill a man, then unfathomable events begin to dog her steps. What is happening?"
Following its premiere in Germany in 2023, the series was lauded for its "thrilling" psychological depth and quickly became a "must-see".

Winning the Audience Choice Award at the German Seriencamp Festival in 2023, Channel 4's Walter Presents didn't hesitate to snap up the rights.
One viewer was effusive in their praise, saying: "The story is gripping, thrilling, full of twists and turns, many facets, and surprises. Excellent entertainment, as tense as the daily heat in Vienna, which lasts for six weeks until August 13th, and creates a special atmosphere as the series culminates in its grand finale. You practically sweat along with it. The images and the camera capture the story excellently; you're an eyewitness yet still in the dark. Highly recommended!"
Another chimed in with: "The story has many twists and turns, maintaining the suspense until the epic finale. I'm thrilled."
"Wow! What a great psychological story for entertaining and exciting hours of TV. Mysterious moments and great actors make this series a must-see for all fans of the genre," enthused a third, while another added: "Super exciting! I couldn't tear myself away from the TV. The ending was completely unpredictable."

'I clean crime scenes for a living – the smell of death is like nothing else'

A professional crime scene cleaner who encounters people's worst nightmares on a daily basis has revealed what job 'lives in her mind'. As part of a new Channel 4 series, Crime Scene Cleaners shows a behind-the-scenes look at a group of unsung heroes who battle hazardous situations and decomposed bodies. Looking at different cleaning teams from Kent, Reading, Somerset and Newcastle to Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, we see what crime scene cleaners do following murders, attacks or overdoses in drug dens. Among the cleaning experts featured in the series is Lauren Baker, a trauma cleaning expert based in Kent, who brings years of experience to some of the most harrowing and dangerous scenes imaginable. Speaking to Metro, Lauren explained how she first became involved in the business. 'I originally tried to give biohazard cleaning a go and did a course, then I didn't realise that these other elements – like cleaning dead bodies – came with it until we actually went and trained,' the mother-of-two said. 'The first job I ever did was a suicide. I went straight in at the deep end and it's always stuck with me because it was very, very calculated. The person had planned every step and left notes saying not to come in and we had to tell the family. 'So yeah, that lives in my head quite a lot. I'll never forget that. And there are other tough cases as well where I've come home and had a little cry in the shower and I've taken it home with me. But I am very headstrong and most of the time I'm able to come home, sit on the sofa and switch off.' Discussing the most shocking moments she has dealt with, Lauren added: 'You've got to be slightly tapped in the brain to do this job. You have got to be mentally strong. 'I didn't always have a strong stomach at first, I had to develop it. I used to gag quite a bit but I learnt that on the job. 'I've never refused to go in somewhere. The worse the better I think because I get a better satisfaction out of it. 'But in some cases there have been times where the smell of death just hits you and I've had to walk out for a second. 'The smell of death is so distinctive, it's like nothing else. I don't even know how to describe it to you. 'Sometimes after really bad cases I've gone home and washed myself three or four times but I can still smell it on my skin. Even though it's psychological I sometimes have to use dettol on my skin.' Lauren went on to say: 'I'm not really shocked anymore… But don't put a spider in front of me. I will have a meltdown. That's the only time I get really shocked or like when a rat runs across your foot.' Discussing whether it has affected her relationships, Lauren added that people only seem to be interested in talking about it to her. But, she added that her partner has to keep reminding her not to talk about dead bodies when they sit down for dinner. More Trending She also said this Channel 4 series is a way for her to push the word out there that people like her are not just cleaners, they are there for people in their darkest moments. Across 10 episodes the series tracks elite specialists from the UK to the US and features detectives and other forensic specialists who unpack the crime and analyse the scene. As well as cleaning up the mess, the cleaners help people get back to normal after the most traumatic events imaginable. Big Brother star ordained as a deacon after turning to the church – 20 years on from finishing runner-up on reality show

A BIG Brother legend has finally been ordained as a deacon after swapping fame for the church. Series seven runner-up Glyn Wise, 37, has been working towards this moment for five years after time spent in China made him reconsider his life. 4 Big Brother's Glyn Wise has formally recognised as a deacon Credit: Twitter 4 Glyn's ordination ceremony was inside St Asaph Cathedral Credit: Glyn Wise 4 Glyn found fame on the reality show back in 2006 Credit: Channel 4 Last month he graduated from Bible College where he spent three years studying for a theology degree. Five weeks later, he is officially a vicar. Today, he confirmed the news, writing on Instagram: "This is Rev Glyn - I'm coming to get you! "Day 1 as an official Rev! Hard work, praying & studying has paid off - 'With God all things are possible' Math 19: 26. "Looking forward to follow in the footsteps of the disciples in the book of Acts, spreading the good word across the nations!" Glyn shared a video from his ordination ceremony inside St Asaph Cathedral, North Wales, as he was made a member of the clergy. The work of a deacon focuses on spreading and serving the Church in poor and marginalised communities. Glyn's next stage of training to become a priest will see him based in the Aled Mission Area around Old Colwyn and Betws yn Rhos, according to the diocese of St Asaph. He has already completed a 770km pilgrimage to the iconic Santiago de Compostela in Spain, believed to be the burial site of the apostle St James, as part of his faith journey. DIVINE INTERVENTION Religion has always played a big part in Glyn's life and previously told how he "prayed my way onto Big Brother". Speaking on This Morning in 2022, he said: 'I grew up in a religious family and I prayed my way onto Big Brother. Pete, Glyn and Victor appear on Big Brother 5 as they reunite 17 years after show "I was asking God can you please just get me into Big Brother. 'I was 16 thinking there must be so much more to life, life is so predestined, school then university and I wanted something so different for me. 'Big Brother was what I wanted and it changed everything.' Previously, he told how he counts Hollywood actor and Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds as one of the congregation at his local church in North Wales. After dropping out of the limelight, Glyn went on to have a normal life, heading to university two years and becoming a teacher. He then decided to go travelling and ended up working in Shanghai, China, where he 'got rid of the Glyn from Big Brother tag'. With Christianity growing at a massive scale across Asia, Glyn embraced his faith and decided to train as a vicar once he got home in 2020. He previously opened up on what his course entailed and said: 'I'm learning theology, going into depth about the Bible and learning how to cope with people, because you're not only the vicar, you're someone to listen, you're a psychiatrist, you have to help sort people's lives out and spread the good word. 'So there's a concoction of stuff that you need to learn before you become a vicar.' Despite sporting a very different look now, Glyn says he still gets Big Brother fans coming up to him in church — and he will often weave his past into his sermons. He said: 'I've got a beard now, I've shaved my head, I'm a man not a boy, but yeah, there's conversations about Big Brother that still come up. People come to church and are like, 'I really loved you when you cooked that egg'. 'And I'm like, 'Can we talk about Jesus Christ now, the Saviour?'. 'But I feel like when you've lived a good life, you've got a lot to talk about when you're up in the pulpit doing a sermon.'
