MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ruben Amorim is willing to loan Andre Onana and find a new No 1.
The Red Devils keeper's salary is so high it has been difficult to sell him after a poor season so the door is open to a temporary switch.

United are waiting for approaches this summer and would prefer a European club to come in rather than a Premier League rival.
Ligue 1 Monaco have asked the question but even with their wealth it would still be a stretch to pay the Cameroonian's wages.
Now a replacement for Onana, 29, is being worked on with Aston Villa's Emi Martinez, 32, a top target — but he would cost a big fee.
The shot-stopper, who wants to stay and fight for his place, has amassed a total of 101 appearances with United since his £47million move from Inter Milan in 2023.

Onana, whose deal runs until 2028, counts 24 clean sheets and has conceded 148 goals during his two-year spell in Manchester.
Botafogo's John Victor is another option after catching the eye at the Fifa Club World Cup.
The Red Devils were watching the Brazilian, 29, last summer but have yet to commit.
However, he is open to any club in England and available at a bargain £6million.

Recent developments suggest that Porto are also on the hunt for a new goalkeeper, which boosts United's chances of securing him.
Cruz Azul No 1 Kevin Mier, is on Porto's shortlist and has been prioritised by club president and former Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Meanwhile, Real Betis also appear ready to receive a significant cash injection, potentially boosting their ability to afford United flop Antony.
The Spanish side, who lost the Uefa Conference League final to Chelsea, are set to bag a £26m windfall with midfielder Johnny Cardoso on the brink of joining LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea 4 Benfica 1 (aet): Blues eventually reach Club World Cup quarters with extra-time blitz after TWO-HOUR delay

The Blues were four minutes away from victory when reports of lightning forced a weather delay of almost TWO HOURS. The Portuguese side then had a player sent off before Chelsea sub Christopher Nkunku stabbed home the scruffiest of goals to finally put his team into the last eight. But the game which kicked off at 4pm local time did not finish until 8.30pm. And Chelsea had to fly straight back to their Miami HQ immediately afterwards. Strict safety rules mean the players must come off the pitch and fans must leave their seats if lighting occurs within a ten mile radius of the ground. That was at 5.54pm local time and the game did not resumed until 7.47pm. A hold up of one hour and 53 minutes. But the delay clearly affected the Premier League side more than the Portuguese. Chelsea were already riding their luck when Benfica mounted one last attack with just two of the six added minutes remaining. Nicolas Otamendi headed across the area and Chelsea sub Gusto jumped to clear but the ball touched the back of his arm. The ref was sent to the monitor by VAR and after a brief debate awarded a penalty. They had controlled the first 86 minutes of the game with ease before the bizarre set of events kicked in. Marc Cucurella, Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer had all gone close to scoring but they ended up paying for the missed chances by leaving Benfica in with a chance to get back in the game. James curled in a classy free kick in the 65th minute to put Chelsea one up and they looked like seeing it out. Gusto only came on in the 80th minute. The Frenchman was also guilty of a string of errors in Chelsea's Conference League Final win last month and was taken off by Maresca at half time. Chelsea advance after Club World Cup thriller took over four hours to complete

BENFICA 1-3 CHELSEA (AET): The Premier League club secured a spot in the last eight of FIFA's Club World Cup after a crazy finish to a game delayed four nearly two hours Chelsea finally saw off Benfica with a late goal rush to reach the Club World Cup quarter finals after one of the craziest games you will ever see. The last 16 clash turned into a complete farce when it was delayed for nearly TWO HOURS because of lightning storms and a severe weather warning and eventually took four hours and 38 minutes to complete after kick-off. ‌ Incredibly, Chelsea were just six minutes from victory when their players were ordered off the pitch as they had to take cover in the dressing room while the fans were also evacuated from the stands for one hour and 53 minutes until the game restarted. ‌ But then when the match eventually restarted, Benfica snatched a dramatic 95th minute equaliser when Angel Di Maria scored from the spot after a highly controversial penalty was given against Malo Gusto. Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni was sent off for a second yellow card in extra time and then Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored in extra time to finally settle a madcap, unforgettable game. Strict US rules mean if there is lightning within a five mile radius then the game is delayed by 30 minutes for safety reasons - and the time delay is then reset every time a bolt is spotted. The delay seemed to take forever and we barely saw any rain but the weather has been a big eye-opener in this tournament and should serve asa warning before the international World Cup next summer. The soaring temperatures, storms and huge delays will give FIFA food for thought and you did wonder at certain points whether this game would ever get finished. You also had to feel for the 25,929 fans in the 75,000 capacity stadium as they waited around for ages - and then eventually got their rewards with a dramatic finish. ‌ Chelsea dominated the game but had to wait until the 64th minute to get a breakthrough. Cole Palmer was fouled out on the left wing, Reece James lined up the set piece and looked as if he going to deliver a cross only then to curl a low shot inside Trubin's near post. James does not score very often but when he does, they tend to be spectacular. When James curled a stunning free kick in England's win over Latvia in March, he did not celebrate out of frustration at the sheer number of injuries he had endured. This time, James did not hold back. ‌ It looked as if Chelsea were heading for a straightforward win until the weather struck - and then the whole thing turned into a farce because of the weather. Chelsea substitute Gusto conceded a penalty deep into injury time for handball when Nicolas Otamendi's header hit his arm. It was harsh but a penalty under the rules and Di Maria kept his nerve to send it into extra time. Prestianni was sent off for a second yellow card for a foul on Levi Colwill as they were reduced to ten men for most of extra time. ‌ Chelsea finally made their numerical advantage pay as first Nkunku pounced on a horrible mix-up and mess in the Benfica six yard box. Then Pedro Neto and substitute Dewsbury-Hall scored in extra time with breakaway goals as Benfica had thrown everything forward.

Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football

The new-look 32-team tournament started earlier this month, with the final taking place at the MetLife Stadium in New York on July 13. The Premier League resumes a month later, with Liverpool kicking off their title defence in the opening game of the season against Bournemouth on August 15. 16 teams remain. The road to #FIFACWC glory is set. 🛣️🏆 — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) June 27, 2025 Klopp has previously spoken about issues such as fixture congestion and in an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, he suggested the Club World Cup will not provide any 'real recovery' for those players involved. 'It's all about the game and not the surrounding events – and that's why the Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football in this regard,' Klopp said. 'People who have never had or do not have anything to do with day-to-day business any more are coming up with something. 'There is insane money for participating, but it's also not for every club. 'Last year it was the Copa (America) and the European Championship, this year it's the Club World Cup, and next year the World Cup. That means no real recovery for the players involved, neither physically nor mentally.' Klopp has expressed his concern about the Club World Cup (Martin Rickett/PA) After leaving his role as Reds boss last summer, Klopp became Red Bull's head of global soccer at the start of 2025. He added: 'I have serious fears that players will suffer injuries they've never had before next season. If not next season, then it will happen at the World Cup or afterwards. 'We constantly expect the players to go into every game as if it were their last. We tell them that 70 or 75 times a year. But it can't go on like this. 'We have to make sure they have breaks, because if they don't get them, they won't be able to deliver top performances – and if they can't achieve that any more, the entire product loses value.'
