Is Rimac Looking to Buy Porsche Out of Its Stake in Bugatti?

Yahoo03-04-2025

Less than five years ago, Porsche and Rimac teamed up to give the storied Bugatti brand a new lease on life, in the form of a new company called Bugatti-Rimac. Now, however, a new report suggest that Rimac Group might buy Porsche out of the partnership. It would give Rimac complete and total control, or even allow it to partner with other investors.
This new report comes from Bloomberg, which cites "people familiar with the matter." The report claims that Rimac Group recently approached Porsche about buying its 45% stake in Bugatti-Rimac, and that Rimac valued the joint venture at slightly over €1 billion ($1.1 billion).
All three of these brands have close ties, including Porsche owning a 22% stake in Rimac itself. Porsche, for its part, wouldn't comment on the deal, but did state that it's always evaluating how it can optimize its business for shareholders. (Interestingly, Porsche reportedly previously considered buying Rimac out of its stake in Bugatti.)
For Porsche, selling off its stake in Bugatti-Rimac could allow it to refocus that new capital elsewhere. Considering the volatile state of the automotive industry in 2025, simplification seems like a potentially prudent strategy — one that could let Porsche focus more on streamlining supply chains or even moving production to the United States.
Bugatti, of course, is on the verge of launching its third generation of hypercar: the Bugatti Tourbillon is currently in the works with deliveries expected to begin in 2026. It combines a massive V-16 engine with a trio of electric motors for a total system output of 1,800 horsepower. There's little doubt that expertise from all the brands involved went into its creation. At the same time, Mate Rimac has made it clear that he would've gone even further with the Tourbillon if he could've; speaking to Road & Track last year, he confessed that he wanted to add at least three more features to the car.
Whether this potential deal regarding Bugatti's ownership goes through or not, you can be sure that those ideas, and others, are still floating around in his head for future projects. Either way, we'll be excited to see what Rimac and Bugatti create next.

Porsche's Most Elaborate Paint Job Yet Meets The 911 GT3 Touring

BMW is famous for its art cars, but Porsche might be even better at turning cars into decorative machines, and the new Porsche Lëtzebuerg Legacy 911 GT3 Touring created by the Sonderwunsch department illustrates that beautifully. Built to celebrate 75 years of Porsche in Luxembourg, the one-off was crafted in collaboration with local artist Jacques Schneider, with the wingless Touring version chosen as a base because of its understated design, which fits the character of the country it represents. The Red Lion, which is the small country's national animal, appears in several places, but the way in which this design came to life impresses just as much as the overall effect. "This unique sports car embodies the link between Porsche's automotive heritage and Luxembourg's cultural identity," according to Porsche Luxembourg Brand Manager Tom Weber. "It exemplifies a partnership that has lasted for more than 75 years and is characterized by trust, innovation and shared passion." Thus, a simple wrap would not have sufficed. Porsche describes the project and its paint job as the "most elaborate ever produced so far as part of a Sonderwunsch project," claiming that it involved more than 700 hours of work to finish. Related: Porsche Built Two "One-of-a-Kind" The Same Serial Number Painters applied a fine lion graphic (designed by Schneider) in Fire Red over the Ice Grey Metallic bodywork by hand, and this alone "required more than 20 production steps." Porsche adds that a blue tinge in the Ice Grey paint and red lion motifs reference the Luxembourg flag and its coat of arms. But there's more to this intricate one-off than just the new paint job. The standard 20- and 21-inch GT3 alloys have been laser etched with a repeating moniker of 'Vive,' short for 'Vive [long live] Luxembourg,' and from a distance, it almost looks like somebody has fitted the GT3 with beadlock wheels. Elsewhere, the B-pillars have a small plaque with the name of the project (as do the door sills), the front grille features the anniversary number 75, and the badging on the rear lid grille has been painted matte black, matching the wheels. Inside, a map of Luxembourg adorns the headliner, as do the opening lines of the Grand Duchy's national anthem in Schneider's handwriting: "Where the Alzette slowly flows, the Sura plays wild pranks, where fragrant vineyards amply grow. On the Mosella's banks; There lies the land for which we would dare everything down here, our own, our native land which ranks deeply in our hearts." Porsche had to use a special machine here and in the seat center panels and door center panels, saying that this elaborate embroidery is a first for the Sonderwunsch program. Another first is the decision to finish the accelerator pedal in Fire Red to match the exterior accents, which is something this 911 shares in common with the Golf GTI Edition 50. We dare you to mention that to the new owner, though - cars like this, especially ones with new finishing techniques, cost more to customize than buying an entire GTI several times over. Transport Canada recall alerts: Are you driving one of these vehicles from BMW, Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo, Polestar, Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Rivian, Honda or Acura?

Vehicles from nearly a dozen automotive brands have recently been recalled in Canada. Here's a roundup of vehicle recalls provided to Transport Canada between June 23 and 30. General Motors has issued a recall on the 2023 and 2024 pickup truck pair of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The recall affects 41,000 vehicles. This recall only affects trucks equipped with a power-locking tailgate and is an expansion of recall N232426400 (Transport Canada recall No. 2024-061). Water could leak into the exterior tailgate switch on some trucks, which could result in the tailgate unlatching and opening unexpectedly while parked. If this happens, unsecured cargo could fall out of the truck bed and onto the road when the vehicle is moving. 'Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated June 27, said. GM will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their truck to a dealership to replace the exterior tailgate switch. To reduce the safety risk, owners are advised to inspect the tailgate to ensure it's closed and latched before driving. Land Rover issued a recall on the 2015-2017 Range Rover. More than 3,000 SUVs are affected by this recall. The front suspension knuckles could crack and/or break on some vehicles. A front knuckle that breaks while driving could cause a sudden loss of vehicle control. This recall is an expansion of N759 (Transport Canada recall No. 2022-668). Certain vehicles that did not have both front suspension knuckles replaced under that recall, also require this repair. 'A loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, lasted updated June 27, said. Land Rover will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect the front suspension knuckles. If the knuckles aren't cracked, the dealer will install retaining brackets. If cracks are found, the dealer will replace the knuckle(s). Porsche has recalled the 2025 Panamera and 2025 Taycan. Just 40 cars are affected by this recall. A retaining ring on top of the suspension strut may become loose and detach on some vehicles. If this happens, air could leak from the spring and cause a drop in ride height, which could affect vehicle handling and stability. 'A change in vehicle handling or a loss of stability could increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated June 26, said. Porsche will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, secure the retaining ring(s). Volvo has recalled a car from its Polestar EV brand, issuing a recall on the 2024 and 2025 Polestar 2. A little more than 100 cars are affected. Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause a loss of brakes. 'A loss of brakes can increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated June 26, said. To reduce the safety risk, Polestar recommends drivers not to use the 'One Pedal Drive' mode until the recall repairs are completed. Polestar will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update for the brake control module software. Alternatively, owners may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Polestar dealership. Volvo also issued a recall on nearly 2,000 cars and SUVs from its Volvo brand, due to a similar problem as the above Polestar recall. Affected vehicles include: This recall only affects plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric vehicles. Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause a loss of brakes. 'A loss of brakes can increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated June 26, said. To reduce the safety risk, Volvo recommends owners not to use the 'B' or 'One Pedal Drive' modes until the recall repairs are completed. Volvo will notify owners by mail and advise them to take your vehicles to a dealership to update the brake control module software. Ford issued a recall on the 2025 Mustang Mach-E. Just 20 electric SUVs are affected. The transmission park rod may have been damaged during manufacturing on some vehicles. As a result, when the transmission is shifted into the park (P) position, the vehicle could move if the parking brake isn't applied. 'A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash,' the recall, last updated June 26, said. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission park rod assembly. BMW has recalled more than 7,000 electric cars and SUVs. Affected models include: A problem with the electric drive motor software could cause some vehicles to enter a fail-safe mode, which could cause a loss of power to the wheels. This problem would cause a warning light to turn on and a warning message to be displayed. 'A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated June 26, said. BMW will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the electric drive motor software. Alternatively, owners may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a BMW dealership. Honda issued a recall on more than 15,000 cars and SUVs from both its mainline and luxury brands. Affected vehicles include: The brake pedal assembly may not have been manufactured properly on some vehicles. This could result in the brake pedal moving and causing drivers not to be able to apply the brakes properly, or to apply the brakes unexpectedly. The brake lights could also turn on without pressing the brake pedal. 'Reduced braking and/or braking unexpectedly could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, brake lights that turn on without the brake pedal being pressed could cause others not to recognize when the vehicle is braking or not braking and increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, lasted updated June 26, said. The automaker will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the brake pedal assembly. Rivian issued a recall on its 2025 R1S and R1T pickup truck and SUV pair, affecting nearly 300 vehicles. On some vehicles, the front turn signal lamps may not have been manufactured properly and one or both front turn signals may not work. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirement of Canadian regulations. This problem would cause a message reading 'Turn signal lights not working. Service it soon.' to be displayed. 'Front turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when a driver intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash,' the recall, last updated June 26, said. Rivian will notify owners by email and advise them to take their vehicle to a Rivian service centre to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front turn signal lamps. Error! Porsche Perfects the Formula: The 2025 911 Carrera S

Porsche has once again raised the bar with the 2025 911 Carrera S, a model that strikes the perfect balance between performance, luxury, and everyday usability. Nestled between the base Carrera and the new hybrid-assisted GTS, this latest iteration offers sharper handling, increased power, and a refined interior while staying true to the 911's legendary driving experience. The 2025 Carrera S boasts an upgraded 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine, now delivering 473 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque — a 30-horsepower increase over its predecessor. Porsche achieved this boost by refining the turbochargers and enhancing charge-air cooling, ensuring stronger performance across the rev range. With the Sport Chrono Package, the Coupé sprints from 0 to 60 mph in as quick as 3.1 seconds, though some sources report a 3.3-second time. The top track speed remains an impressive 191 mph. These numbers firmly establish the Carrera S as a serious contender in the high-performance sports car market. Porsche didn't stop at the engine. The 2025 Carrera S benefits from a series of upgrades that enhance both performance and driver confidence. The braking system, inspired by the previous 911 Carrera GTS, delivers exceptional stopping power, though specific rotor sizes have not been confirmed in all sources. A sport exhaust system, now standard, produces a deeper, more aggressive note, adding to the sensory thrill. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) ensures sharper cornering dynamics, while a new damper setup strikes a perfect balance between comfort and handling precision. Whether on a spirited backroad drive or a daily commute, the Carrera S remains composed and exhilarating. Inside, the 2025 Carrera S receives a refreshed interior that emphasizes both luxury and customization. Leather upholstery now extends across more surfaces, enhancing the premium feel. Coupé buyers can opt for a two-seat configuration for a purer driving experience, while Cabriolet models retain the standard rear seats. For those who love personalization, Porsche's Exclusive Manufaktur program offers 48 two-tone leather combinations, ensuring each 911 feels uniquely tailored to its owner. Enthusiasts looking for even sharper dynamics can opt for several performance-focused upgrades. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provide race-ready stopping power, while the PASM Sport Suspension lowers ride height by 10mm for improved stability. Rear-axle steering further enhances maneuverability at low speeds and high-speed stability on the highway. The 2025 911 Carrera S starts at $146,400 for the Coupé and $159,600 for the Cabriolet, excluding destination fees. Orders are open now, with deliveries expected to begin in spring 2025. Given its enhancements, the Carrera S is shaping up to be one of the most compelling 911 models yet. Porsche continues to push the boundaries of what a sports car can be. With more power, smarter technology, and greater refinement, the 2025 911 Carrera S isn't just an upgrade: it's a statement.
