Bengaluru–Mysuru rapid rail project aims to cut commute time to under one hour: Report
The system, modeled on Delhi's upcoming Namo Bharat RRTS and developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), is being championed locally by the Bangalore Commuter Rail Corporation Ltd. (BCRCL). Trains would run at speeds up to 200 km/h, serving daily commuters and inter-city travelers with high-frequency, reliable service.

A pre-feasibility study is already complete, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is underway, the report stated. Planners are exploring a mix of elevated and upgraded existing tracks, with cost estimates ranging from ₹ 25,000 to ₹ 30,000 crore, depending on land acquisition and alignment.

The Bengaluru–Mysuru route is considered ideal due to its economic significance, population growth, and increasing traffic. Towns along the corridor like Ramanagara and Mandya are expected to benefit from real estate and business development, while reduced road traffic could bring environmental and safety improvements.
However, some challenges remain, the report noted. Securing land across districts, coordinating between agencies, and ensuring enough daily ridership at a viable fare point are some of the major hurdles that have been identified. Experts who spoke to the publication stressed that the success of the project depends on building dedicated, grade-separated tracks to avoid the pitfalls of slower, shared rail corridors.
If implemented effectively, the RRTS could reshape urban commuting in Karnataka, making weekend getaways, daily office commutes, and even cross-city relocations dramatically more convenient.

Delhi University has officially notified that students enrolled in the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) can now exit the course after completing three years and still be awarded a degree, reports PTI. This development marks a key milestone in the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. According to the notification issued on Thursday, students who have successfully completed six semesters (i.e., three years) under the UG Curriculum Framework 2022 are eligible for the exit option. They will receive a general degree for multi-core discipline programmes or an Honours degree for single-core disciplines. The notification reads: "Students interested in availing the above option can log in to the university's student portal at https: and submit their intent through the designated online process," The university has advised students to "carefully evaluate their academic and career goals" and consult teachers or mentors before choosing the early exit route. The update comes as DU prepares to launch the fourth and final year of the FYUP in August. Introduced under NEP 2020, the programme extends undergraduate study to four years with multiple entry and exit options. Based on the number of years completed, students can earn a certificate (1 year), diploma (2 years), or degree (3 or 4 years). The fourth year includes an option for research specialisation. The new structure aims to offer flexibility and enhance academic engagement, but it has raised concerns about infrastructure deficiencies, incomplete curriculum, and colleges' and faculty members' lack of preparedness. Addressing such concerns in a previous PTI interview, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had said, "Facilities will be created. This is the first time the focus is on research, entrepreneurship and skill... this fourth year will be a game changer." UCO Bank's total business jumps 13pc to Rs 5.24 lakh cr in Q1FY26
Kolkata, Jul 3 (PTI) UCO Bank on Thursday reported a 13.67 per cent year-on-year growth in its total business, which rose to Rs 5.24 lakh crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, compared to Rs 4.61 lakh crore in the corresponding quarter last year. According to provisional figures disclosed to bourses, total advances stood at Rs 2.25 lakh crore, registering a 16.58 per cent year-on-year increase, while total deposits rose 11.57 per cent to Rs 2.99 lakh crore during the same period.
