Tiger's son Charlie Woods captures first junior crown
Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, won his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title on Wednesday, taking a three-stroke victory in Florida.
The younger Woods fired a six-under par 66 final round to capture the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort Black course, finishing on 15-under 201.
It was the first victory in five AJGA starts for Charlie Woods, who fired eight birdies and two bogeys in the final round but closed with four consecutive pars to seal the triumph in the top US junior series.
A field of 71 included four of the nation's five top-ranked juniors and 60 of the top 100. Woods was 606th in AJGA rankings but is expected to leap into the top 15 after the win.
Charlie Woods would be able to have talks with college coaches next month even though he wouldn't be joining university teams before 2027 if then.
Woods was playing on a sponsor invitation in the event but will be exempt for AJGA invitationals the rest of this season.
Woods, who has won other age-group events, failed in an attempt to qualify for the US Open earlier this month.

Kansas City Royals victorious over Blue Jays 9-3 after Mike Yastrzemski hits home run
Mike Yastrzemski homered in his first at-bat with Kansas City, Michael Wacha limited Toronto to a run in eight innings in his longest outing of the season and the Royals beat the Blue Jays 9-3 on Friday night. Acquired from San Francisco just before the trade deadline Thursday, Yastrzemski had a two-run shot off Kevin Gausman (7-8) in the second inning to make it 2-1. Wacha (5-9) allowed three hits and stuck out five, helping the Royals improve to .500 for the first time since June 20. He gave up one run for the fourth consecutive start. Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez and Adam Frazier also homered for Kansas City. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two-out homer in the first inning to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. After Yastrzemski gave the Royals the lead in the second, and Witt's three-run homer made it 5-1 in the third. Kansas City added four runs in the ninth. Perez and Frazier homered and Maikel Garcia had a bases-loaded single. Addison Barger hit a two-run homer for Toronto in the ninth. Yastrzemski wasted no time getting his first big hit for Kansas City, hitting the two-run homer in the second inning. The Royals scored five or more runs for the eighth time in 13 games since the All-Star break. Kansas City LHP Noah Cameron (5-4, 2.44 ERA) was set to start Saturday against Toronto RHP Max Scherzer (1-1, 4.89).

Charlie Woods stumbles at Jr. PGA, falls short in Ryder Cup qualifying bid
Charlie Woods dropped into a tie for ninth on the final day of the Junior PGA Championship, which took him out of the running for a qualifying spot for the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team on Friday. The 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot back-to-back 66s in the second and third rounds at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., and was tied for second place entering the final round. But he posted a final-round 74 at the Ackerman-Allen course on Friday, with three bogeys and a double bogey over his final 10 holes. The Junior Ryder Cup will take place Sept. 23-25 at Bethpage Black and Nassau Country Club, just ahead of the senior event between the U.S. and Team Europe that weekend. There is also one captain's pick for the team, although Woods is likely not in line to be selected for it. Lunden Esterline was the runaway winner of the Junior PGA Championship with a final score of 19-under-par 266 (featuring a second-round 62). Giuseppe Puebla shot a final-round 64 to rocket into a tie for second at 13 under with Tyler Mawhinney (69). In doing so, Puebla received the other automatic qualifying spot for the Junior Ryder Cup. Esterline, from Andover, Kan., is a 2027 Auburn commit. Puebla, from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., is also part of the Class of 2027 and uncommitted for college. Charlie Woods finished 9 under for the week, 10 off Esterline's pace and four strokes out of the running for a Ryder Cup qualifying spot.
