He said this is the fight for coming generations and cannot be won without the support of the common man. Mann exhorted the people to extend wholehearted support for this noble cause, further transforming it into a mass movement, to make Punjab a progressive and frontrunner state in the country
The CM said the bulldozer drive to demolish the properties of the drug smugglers will continue until a logical conclusion is reached.
He said the action is being taken as per the law of the land and it is aimed at ensuring that the drug trade is dealt a fatal blow.
Soliciting fulsome support and cooperation of people in the war against drugs, the CM said the scourge of drugs was a blot on the face of the state and it took more than two years for the state govt to chalk out a strategy for wiping out this curse. He said that subsequently, the supply line of drugs was snapped, big fishes involved in these heinous crimes were put behind bars, rehabilitation of the drug victims was ensured, and even the property of the drug smugglers was confiscated and destroyed.
He said that now the state govt has launched a war against drugs in the form of Yudh Nasheyan Virudh, the aim of which is to clean the state.
The Chief Minister said that the people of the state have given a thumping majority to the Aam Aadmi Party and it is high time that the people of the state are paid back by progressive policies. He said that though politicians have always tried to divide the people on sectarian lines, the people of the state have always thwarted such attempts.

Further, Mann said he vehemently raised the issues of water, Yamuna Satluj Link (YSL), high-handedness of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Chandigarh, and others before the Prime Minister during the meeting of Niti Aayog held at New Delhi on Saturday. He said as custodian of the interests of three crore Punjabis, it is his moral duty and he will always do that.
The CM said though the forces inimical to the state are trying hard to create a rift amongst society, they will never be successful in these evil designs.
He said the social bonding in the state is so strong that any seed could grow on the fertile land of Punjab, but the seed of hatred will never germinate here at any cost.
The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that more than 54,000 jobs have been provided to the youth of the state. He said that all the jobs have been given completely on the basis of merit, without any corruption or nepotism, making the youth an active partner in the socio-economic development of Punjab.
Meanwhile, during his address, national convener of AAP Arvind Kejriwal said the previous regimes not only patronised the drug dealers but they themselves carried out the business in their govt vehicles. However, he said the Mann-led state govt is acting strictly against the drug menace and it will not allow its youth to fall prey to this menace.
The former Delhi CM said he is elated to learn that the backbone of the drug trade has been broken, for which Punjab Police needs a pat.
He said the manner in which this anti-drug campaign has been launched finds no parallel in contemporary Indian history.
He added that there is no dearth of funds for the progress of the state and Rangla Punjab will be a reality soon. He said today students are getting quality education, people are getting quality healthcare facilities, 90% of households are getting free power, and others. Kejriwal said the day is not far when Punjab will emerge as a leader in every field and people will be immensely benefited from it.

NITI Aayog proposes easing investment curbs on Chinese firms, suggests allowing 24% stake without nod: Report
India's leading policy think tank, NITI Aayog, has suggested relaxing regulations that mandate additional scrutiny for investments by Chinese firms, asserting that these rules have caused delays for some significant deals, news agency Reuters reported, citing government sources. All investments by Chinese companies in India currently require necessary security approvals from both the Home Ministry and the Foreign Ministry. However, NITI Aayog has proposed that Chinese companies may acquire a stake of up to 24% in an Indian company without the need for approval, the news agency said, citing sources who did not wish to be named. The proposal is part of an initiative to increase foreign direct investment in India and is currently under review by the trade ministry's industries department, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as by Prime Minister Narendra Modi office, the report said. NITI Aayog has also suggested to revamp the board that decides on foreign direct investment proposals, it added. Livemint could not independently verify the report. Notably, the NITI Aayog plays an advisory role and not all proposals suggested by the body are implemented by the government. government. However, the proposal comes at a time when India and China are reportedly trying to improve bilateral relations following the border issues in 2020. The final decision over easing the trade rules will be taken by the political leaders, the report said, citing two sources. The current regulations were introduced following border conflicts in 2020. They apply to land-bordering countries, most impacting Chinese companies. Meanwhile, firms from other countries are generally free to invest in various sectors like manufacturing and pharmaceuticals, although certain sensitive areas such as defence, banking, and media remain restricted. Due to these rules, deals such as China's BYD plan to invest $1 billion in an electric car joint venture in 2023 have been shelved, the report stated. Although global foreign investment has slowed since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the restrictions on Chinese investment in India are seen as a key reason for a significant decline in the country's FDI. Net foreign direct investment in India dropped to a record low of just $353 million in the last financial year, compared to the $43.9 billion recorded in the year ending March 2021. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made his first visit to China in five years this week. During his trip, he emphasised to his counterpart the importance of resolving border tensions and urged both nations to avoid restrictive trade measures, such as China's limits on rare earth magnet supplies.

Parliament monsoon session: DMK MPs adopt resolution to raise various issues including language policy
DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday chaired the meeting of his party's MPs, which adopted a resolution identifying key issues to be raised in the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament. The 11 years of the BJP regime at the Centre is marked by suppression of rights of the people, taking away autonomy of the States, imposition of Sanskrit and Hindi and growing communalism. More importantly, they are betraying Tamil Nadu and running a 'National Dictatorship Arrangement' regime, Mr. Stalin said in a post on X. 'I have instructed the MPs to reflect the voice of people in India and Tamil Nadu in the monsoon session and safeguard State's financial, linguistic, educational and federal rights,' Mr. Stalin said. According to a party release, the meeting adopted a resolution to uphold State's rights on various aspects. As per the resolution, DMK MPs will put forth the points raised by Mr. Stalin during the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 24. This includes a new scheme for cleaning of major rivers - Cauvery, Vaigai, and Thamirabarani, naming Union government schemes in English, it said. The MPs will also raise the issue of denial of Samagra Shiksha funds to Tamil Nadu for not implementing the Centre's three-language policy, while similar funds released to BJP-ruled Maharashtra that withdrew the policy following opposition, the resolution noted. The MPs would also seek 50% devolution to States and also flag the issue of States getting only 33.16% of devolution against the 15th Finance Commission recommendation of 41% and the financial strain on the State government due to its increasing share in schemes implemented along with the Central government, it said. As per the resolution, the MPs will raise the issue of Centre's non-acceptance of Keezhadi archaeological report and non-release of funds for the railway projects to Tamil Nadu and under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. The DMK will take up the delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and also the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Bihar and misuse of Election Commission. NITI Aayog proposes easing investment rules for Chinese firms: Report
India's top policy think tank, NITI Aayog, has proposed easing rules that currently subject Chinese investments in Indian companies to heightened scrutiny, Reuters reported, citing sources. NITI Aayog proposes easing curbs on Chinese investments.(HT File) The proposal, which aims to revive slowing foreign direct investment (FDI), recommends allowing Chinese companies to acquire up to a 24 per cent stake in Indian firms without requiring security clearance. At present, all investments from Chinese entities must be vetted by both the ministry of home affairs and the ministry of external affairs. 'Chinese companies can take a stake of up to 24 per cent in an Indian company without any approval being required,' Reuters quoted a source as saying. The move is still under review by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), as well as the finance and foreign ministries and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the report added. While NITI Aayog's proposals are not always adopted, this suggestion comes at a time when India and China are cautiously working to rebuild ties frayed by a deadly border clash in 2020. The news agency also cited two unnamed officials who said that any final decision on the proposal would rest with the political leadership and could take several months. 'The industries department is in favour of easing, but the other government bodies are yet to give their final view,' one of the sources was quoted as saying. Rules shelved major Chinese deals The rules mandating stricter scrutiny of investments from countries sharing land borders with India were introduced in April 2020, shortly after soldiers from both India and China clashed in the Galwan Valley. The move has disproportionately affected Chinese companies, unlike firms from other countries, which are free to invest in most sectors, including manufacturing and pharmaceuticals, barring a few sensitive areas like defence, media, and banking. A notable casualty of the rules was a 2023 plan by Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD to invest $1 billion in a joint venture in India, a proposal that was shelved due to regulatory restrictions. While global FDI slowed following the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the sharp drop in Chinese investment is seen as a key factor behind India's FDI slump. Net FDI inflows into India plummeted to just $353 million in the last financial year, the lowest in years compared to $43.9 billion in the year ending March 2021, the report added. With Reuters inputs
